Copycats !

Copycats : It is truly striking just how many different members have had to deal with copycats over the past year! I won't name names; but the copycats themselves and those being copied will know exactly who I’m talking about and to whom this message is addressed to. I’m referring to the set layout being copied—not the specific outfit items styled the same way; they use different items, but everything is placed in exactly the same spots. It happened gradually—as if they didn't want to draw attention to themselves—until eventually, their layout style became identical to that of members who have been using their own signature layout styles on URSTYLE for years! We ought to feel flattered and honored that they like our style enough to copy it; but that’s how I see and feel it, even though not everyone feels comfortable with it and , to be honest, it sometimes leaves a disappointing feeling. But the saddest part of all is the lack of inspiration to create their own layout style, which is what ultimately turns them into copycats. Personally, I’ve never confronted anyone about it, even though I receive various messages from members pointing out the copycats we have . So, the message is : dear copycats, if you’re reading this, please try to create your own layout style instead of copying others and make yourself happy, and us too. Thanks so much, and have a lovely and happy day you all. Sending hugs

Same old...You're right...XOX

@greta-martin I completely agree with this! Finding your own creative voice and layout style is such an important part of making art and collages here. Inspiration is great, but copying layout for layout takes away what makes each member's set unique. Hopefully everyone takes this as encouragement to experiment and find their own style! Hope you have a great day/evening darlin'

I completely agree with you, @greta-martin. People should draw from their own inspirations to create something unique. Whatever they come up with will always be better than simply copying others! Don't worry, my friend; think of it as a compliment. You are truly talented! Wish you a very happy evening.
Hugs, Shoaleh

I have suffered from copycats and now sign my sets in the hope this will deter them!

@Dide-Karaali-HOS @lastchance @Shoaleh-Nia2 @artsdesireable Thank you so much for the understanding and support. I really appreciate your opinions very much. With a little goodwill and some effort on their part, I hope they can create their own style; they will feel proud and very satisfied—that’s the feeling you get from creating something of your own. Sending hugs and have a great day/evening you all

@greta-martin, After reading your message, I took some time to review my recent fashion sets. I have endeavored to work on improving my creating of fashion sets recently. As such, I do take a little time to look over other people's sets to figure out what elements really make an impact. If this is considered copycatting, I do apologize. That was never my intent and I would not want to upset anyone while trying to improve my skills.

-
I don't think anyone wants to copy my sets, they are chaotic! HaHa!! But yes, I can see people pulling from some people's sets, some of the sets on here are incredible! I can understand new members copying a bit to figure things out, but when it happens over and over again, I can see how that can be frustrating. I'm sorry that you are noticing this, I hope it gets better for you.

@shelley-harcar Dear Shelley, please don't worry, rest assured that I am certainly not talking about you here. As far as I know, drawing inspiration and improving your skills with fashion sets—ultimately to create something uniquely your own—is not considered copying. Copycats replicate the exact layout of a set but use different items, although some do copy the exact same items as well. That is precisely why copycats stand out so clearly: at first glance, you think the set belongs to someone else. I wish you lots of luck and have a great time creating in the world of fashion sets; sending hugs

@greta-martin Even better one for you and your beloved ones dear all!

@greta-martin I don’t do fashion hardly ever but still enjoy looking at everyone who does. I have noticed some similarities in set designs and perhaps yes you should be flattered but maybe they feel they have lost their way somewhat with inspiration but copycats should not be tolerated and they should endeavour to create their own style.

@covetyourbeauty Hello my dear, please know that I absolutely love your sets; they are unique and beautifully put together. Definitely don't underestimate yourself, because you are very good at what you create ... I am a huge fan. I also understand that new members are still figuring out how to make sets, but I certainly don't view them as copycats; they will surely discover their own style eventually. Unfortunately, the issue here isn't about newcomers. Don't worry about me; let's just hope the message gets through to the copycats that they are encouraged to discover their own layout style ... that way, they’ll be respected and loved by many. Sending hugs and have a lovely evening, my dear.

@jewelsinthecrown Good morning dearest Michele, I really appreciate your opinion and support, ,you’re such a lovely friend. You’re absolutely right that some people have lost their way a bit when it comes to inspiration—which I can certainly understand—but when the same thing gets repeated set after set for a long time, it becomes a bit sad. That is precisely why I wanted to encourage them to discover their own style of creating layouts, they will certainly enjoy it and gain respect for it. Let’s hope the message gets their attention .Sending big hugs all the way to the beautiful Gold Coast , have a great and wonderful day sweetie.

@shelley-harcar Shelley--When I first started on Polyvore many years ago, in order to know how to create beautiful sets and after looking at the ones I loved the most, I would use different sections (never the entire set) to find what I liked to do when creating sets! Polyvore was a new experience for me and I did not realize that people could make such amazing sets from items found online. It was an eye opener! However, I did find my own style and have honed it even more over the years. As far as I know, I have not had anyone copy me since my TrendMe days.

Greta: When I was on TrendMe, after Polyvore shut down and I found Urstyle, there was a nasty woman who not only copied my sets but made the most nasty and provocative comments on my sets! It's the only time I had to report someone to the administration so that she could be stopped. They took her spot off TrendMe and thankfully, I never heard from her again.

@greta-martin Thank you Greta for your message posted. So appreciated! Hugs.

I definitely get inspired by others' sets since way back on Polyvore, but I'm confident in my own creativity, athough, admittedly, I shift my styles around a lot. I've experimented naturally over the years but never seem to have one signature style and not sure why but that is itself part of my style, lol. Hope my creations have not been construed at copys though. If so, it was never intentional.

@gigi66 Hello my dear, I’ve never heard anything about you regarding copying, so please don’t worry and rest assured that I am certainly not talking about you here. Please feel free to carry on as always and enjoy the variety, there’s nothing wrong with that at all. Many members create a wide range of set layouts. I sometimes draw inspiration from my own old sets from years ago , back then I used a wider range of layout styles than I have in recent year .For certain contests, it actually works out better and looks nicer. Sending a big hug .
