My Style

  • Clothes have always been used for aesthetic purposes and/or self expression, some people try new clothing pieces, different ways of dressing up or down and some stick with a certain look or aesthetic. In my experience with dressing myself, trying different ways of dressing has been what I've done, although I've also stuck with a casual way of dressing, including wearing certain clothes over and over again (if I'm fond of a clothing article, expect to see me in it a few times). In my childhood, preteen years my sources and inspiration for style came from shows, characters on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, such as Miley Stewart (Hannah Montana), Alex Russo (Wizards of Waverly Place), Teddy Duncan (Good Luck, Charlie), CeCe Jones and Rocky Bleu (Shake It Up), and Tori Vega (Victorious). I also sought inspiration in how the actors, singers dressed in real life as well, pap pics in magazines and online, red carpets, Instagram, etc. Yes, this did lead to some questionable choices on my end. But that's the thing with style and finding yourself in it, it's experimental, you'll have hits and misses, you'll succeed and fail. In my experience, you really learn more in the times you fail, than in the times you succeed. Apart from the basic rules of styling, you learn more about yourself, what you're comfortable with, what you're satisfied with, what aesthetic or way of dressing really feels most like you. Dressing in a way that your outfit is an introduction to strangers, tells people who you are or might be. A good outfit or clothing piece or accessory could encourage someone to approach you and ask about a piece of your outfit or tell you how good you look, which is a great confidence booster.
Back when I was active on Facebook, I shared a post that asked something along the lines of, "what's your favorite thing about me?" A dear friend commented that my style, how I dress was her favorite thing about me. That comment truly did touch me, there have been times I've worn an outfit and didn't feel one hundred percent good in it or wore it feeling fifty-fifty about it, there were times I wore an outfit that felt more like I was dressing to impress others or satisfy others and that didn't feel good. Today, as a young woman in her late twenties, my style is like a chameleon, my main source of inspiration and even guidance comes from Pinterest, social media sometimes.

  • A long power outage in Narayanganj left me sitting on the balcony relying on my smartphone for entertainment. I decided to initiate an 888starz download after seeing high ratings on a local mobile review site. The installation file was small enough to fetch quickly without eating up precious mobile data. The app opened instantly, offering an uncluttered environment that kept my battery intact for hours. Having efficient software on your device makes unexpected blackouts far more bearable.
