Are You Guilty??? I am! 😳
-
I confess! I’m guilty. Here’s what I am guilty of:
spending more time than I should on UrStyle and using that time inefficiently.Okay, so I'm not going to stop spending time here, but I do need to revise how I spend that time. Much of my time on UrStyle is spent “socializing” rather than creating. I am missing too many Contest Notifications, as well as Contest Deadlines, as a result. By ‘socializing’, I mean:
• Responding to Comments left on my Sets
• Replying (if appropriate) to Responses left about Comments I’ve made on the Sets of others
• Congratulating Contest Winners in two different areas; the Group Forum and the Moderator Blog
• Going to each Winning Set in a Contest, in each of the Groups I’m in, and leaving individual messages of congratulations there – which is redundant. (See above)
• Thanking each person who congratulates me when a Set of mine places in a Contest.
• Feeling guilty when I don’t have time to do all this.Yes, I am guilty!!! I am guilty of time-sinking! I want to make art! I want to have fun! And I DO want to let others know that I read and enjoyed their comments and responses, or that I’m thrilled for their win, yet it’s impossible (for me) to do all this and still feel like I created art. The majority of my time here is spent on interactions. I don’t want to appear anti-social, unappreciative, or annoyed. I’m simply frustrated.
@admin UrStyle: Can we please have a LIKE button for Comments left on Sets?
While you’re at it, what about a STAR button
we can click on to congratulate members whose Sets have won?
Members, I’d love to read your own thoughts on this.
Thank you! -
YES!!! and YES!!! again. I want to congratulate and comment and acknowledge comments and.... A like button and an icon for congratulations would be great!
-
I am so totally with you! I enjoy the interactions very much, but, if we could just click a button to say thank you and congratulations, we would have more time both to create and to truly socialize!
-
@shelley-harcar Even upvoting responses is time-consuming! It's gotten to the point where I feel like a robot. Maybe an emoticon copied and pasted to every single comment/response/winning set would be effective in letting people know that I was there and I admired, but even that is robotic, time consuming, and feels insincere and empty.
When I'm here, I don't want to feel like I'm at a job!
-
@kateolive Thank you!
-
I agree, I feel so guilty when I don't repond but sometimes all I want to do is just create.
-
YES! Yes! Yes! Let's get that like button folks!
-
Absolutely, miss that one feature from poly for sure, also love the star option mentioned also, this would let the members know that we read their comments and appreciate them and also ''congratulation on their wins, you are not quilty, but sensible!!!

@funkyjunkygypsy I am SO guilty. Of just not having time in the day for my job, family, self-care AND URStyle. Most of you do so much better than I do on commenting, liking and thanking. The faster speed of the Urstyle site has made these easier lately, but still time-consuming and I feel guilty that I don’t do a better job. A clickable “like” icon similar to those on FB would definitely assuage my guilt. And save precious time. And help me tell my URStyle friends how much I appreciate them more often than I am able to right now.

Yes, I would love a like button so that people can see that I have read the comment.
-
Guilty as charged!!!! I'm afraid I do all these things! ... and it's really difficult to even find the contests to do the congratulating. If you have been placed you usually get a notification you can tick, but other than that it takes ages .

@auntiehelen I feel guilty for not socialising in this manner enough! But I figured a while ago it was between me creating or socialising (leaving comments etc). I chose to create what I like creating. I carefully choose which contests I enter also! This may sound selfish but something had to give. I do try to like and comment when I have the time. I do think appreciating my friends work is important. I do try to do this! Not always success ful though. So sorry dear friends if I have neglected you. I will try to even things out more. Lately I have lost my inspiration but did a few sets today. Thanks to my special Angel! Cheers all! Love Dianne xxxxxxx

@funkyjunkygypsy Boy, can I relate!! I guess we all can!! That "star" button is a great suggestion too!!
-
@joeanne I know, right? I think it's because we're all artists, whether we consider ourselves that or not. We all appreciate art, find art in life, and feel compelled to create. That requires emotional depth, so of course, the side of us that feels (which is what helps us to create art and to appreciate it) can also 'empathize' with others here, knowing how important it is to connect with one another, to give and get feedback, etc. I simply need to balance this better, and I feel I've done all I can do on my end other than stop participating in groups, which I do not want to do.
@DianneC has a good attitude on it. And I have to confess that because she does not comment as often, when she does, I feel quite happy about it. It seems more "special" to me because she has taken a little time and attention and spent it on a set of mine. Not once did I ever consider who does and does not leave comments; on Sets or in Contest Win Posts/Notifications. Not once. Yet, somehow, my mind keeps track and when I see a comment from @DianneC, I take notice BECAUSE she isn't a "constant communicator" which is totally fine!!!
So why do I feel badly if I 'ignore' all the filler and just enjoy UrStyle MY WAY and participate in the social "obligatory" interactions when I feel moved to? Because we're artists, dammit. And we're sensitive. And we truly like one another and don't want anyone feeling left out, overlooked, unappreciated, etc. I think that a THANK YOU Set every so often, dedicated to followers and friends MAY help this, but then again, if we all start doing that, then we're doing the same thing just in a different way. This is why I say I feel I've done all I can do other than stop (or rather; change) the way I participate. So I beseech UrStyle to let me out of my self-imposed prison and give us those buttons!
-
@auntiehelen I have gone to such lengths, that I created a folder on my browser bar containing bookmarks of all contests I'm currently participating in, which I keep in chronological order (ending soonest first) and move/delete as the contests end. I have "sections", such as those that are ending very soon, those with more than a week left, and those I'm done with; in that I either submitted all the number of sets allowed and/or am happy with what I've submitted and wish to move on to something else. Very OCD of me, but it's just too much to do it any other way!
-
@funkyjunkygypsy I'm impressed! I'm too spontaneous to follow a list muchless make one! I DO wish that the contest list menu listed the contests by groups we are in. Would make it much easier to find them.
-
@laughingdog Perhaps my little graphic will nudge them in the right direction...
-
@funkyjunkygypsy Do you think they are LISTENING? LOL. ~No doubt they hang out in the shadows...
-
I kind of don't understand! Believe me I miss plenty of contest and notifications take up a lot of my time. But didn't everyone ask to be able to "Reply" to comments and @admin did that and now you want a "Like" button instead of being able to reply?
-
@FunkyJunkyGypsy I understand your frustration, but I'm a bit confused as everyone seemed to be asking for a way to reply to comments. I personally enjoy reading my comments and leaving comments, but I do not respond to any and I don't waste time going back to other people's sets to see they wrote "thank you"! So please to all no need to thank me if I leave you a comment - it means I really was intrigued by your set and I'm sending you appreciation. Additionally as a moderator, I do not make separate group announcements on winners in a blog - I do that under my group forum page so congratulating winners is a one time deal.. I am here for fun and creating and I enjoy chatting with my friends and it never feels like a "job". I hope you can find a good balance, excellent idea for a "like" button! Regards, xx Hope

I do the same with my group. I congratulate in the annoucement and not the individual sets. I also make a trophy set, so it seems redundent to go to the individual sets.
