Question about set items

I've noticed in all the sets I've viewed today that two items are in all of the sets. One is a logo for "SSense" and the other is a Disney mouse purse. Since many of us know that SSense used to be Polyvore, I'm curious as to why it's suddenly showing up here. Can you answer this question?

Ewwwww Damian!! Not Polyvore!!! Sorry, my stomach still turns when I think of them and the fact that Ssense didn't support us. Thanks for all you do Damian, you and your team are making great strides and it is not lost on us. Some of us get impatient, some of us don't have the most updated computers but I "think" I can safety say all of us are grateful for you and Urstyle and making a platform we can create on.

@admin Actually, what IS their fault is that we were cut off without a word of what was happening and with no recourse to find our friends. They allowed us to get our sets, but we lost all of our drafts and our items. If we had been given a heads-up, we could have saved a great deal of our work.
So, they are at fault for a great deal of what happened to us - and if you advertise them here, I'll be leaving your site.
You've done a lot for us, and I am VERY appreciative, more than you could know, but what they did to us was crossing way over a line. There was NO reason for them to cut us off the way they did, and I will not participate in any site that advertises them.
Please let us know if this will be a permanent advertisement. Thank you. ~Jo

Right after SSense took over Polyvore, I noticed on Pinterest that our old sets from Polyvore were showing up as having been created on SSEnse. They showed various fashion items as being available on their website, and if you clicked on one, it took you to the SSEnse website home page. However, searching for the item was futile. Not one of the items I searched for was actually sold there. In my book, that's called fraud. -
@Gypsy-Jo I was perusing Pinterest today and came upon Sense advertising some of our old Polyvore sets as theirs, unfortunately I never took a screen shot so you could see it, but as they are those no-sense people are still taking advantage of us old Polyvore users to advertise their products and site.. so disappointing...... so what do we expect... I must admit @admin... Damian it would be sad to see that Urstyle could be affiliated in any way this company.. seeing you have a large majority of old Polyvore users using this site. hmmm!!!!

Yahoo, and Polyvore with it, was acquired by Verizon and merged with AOL to form Oath. Oath Inc. then sold Polyvore to Ssense who immediately shut down Polyvore's website, apps, and operations because it was not a sustainable business anymore.
Yahoo Inc. originally acquired Polyvore as part of a mobile, video, native advertising, and social businesses strategy. It didn’t work and they lost MILLIONS of dollars in the process.
Polyvore was supposed to be a “social site that drives sales to retailers”, that’s why Ssense acquired the company in the first place. They bought the company's stock or assets and the right to redirect ALL of Polyvore traffic and search engine results to their domain / website.
Ssense didn’t have a commitment or a relationship with Polyvore members. They bought something that was for sale. That’s business and that’s the way it is.

@admin I take on board what you say, Damien, it is not actually Ssense to blame for what happened to us.. it was Polyvore who dumped us! I can't believe they didn't know Ssense didn't want the artistic side of the business, but they told us NOTHING. One afternoon at about 3 o'clock (British time) I went onto Polyvore to find a flurry of activity... verging on panic..... on the Messages page... Polyvore was gone! Just like that! We could talk to each other for a short time; then nothing !!! I am well aware that the artistic side of the site is not profit-making, and that we are not therefore valued as much as the Fashion side.... check out the front page if you need proof of that!!!! But if you are going to have some sort of merger with Ssense, please let us know..... that is only fair.

@jesuisunlapin et al fwiw, I’ve been seeing ssense products on the front page and in searchable items for a while I just haven’t clicked on them or included any in my sets. I feel that it’s a kind of justifiable irony that their advertising can help pay for me using this new platform. I just am not going to buy any of their stuff or create sets with them.

@fassionista Amen sister, have to agree, there are much better places to advertise and nicer clothing, moda operandi, farfetch, myteresa, netaporter, ssense had a lot of negative reviews, I'll never forgive poly giving us the shaft, no warning, nothing, hate to see this happen to urstyle too.

You are not giving SSENSE money. They are giving UrStyle money, which I think is ironic. They are now paying UrStyle to reach the very people they, according to some, “abandoned”. Hilarious!But did they really abandon us? After all, it was Polyvore, not SSENSE, that we called “home” as far as creating graphic art goes. SSENSE bought out Polyvore with an intent to sell merchandise and not to offer an art creation platform. That sucks, but how we feel about it is irrelevant. Them’s the facts, Ma’am.
Now consider this: As Damien informed us, SSENSE acquired Polyvore, and Polyvore was in debt. Polyvore could not afford to run itself, so they sold their business to another company. Happens ALL the time. Would it have been gracious and considerate of them, or even the company making the purchase (regardless of who they are or what they sell) to give us notice and information? Yes… but it also may not have been possible.
Business experts, and that includes corporate attorneys, will tell you that confidentiality is absolutely essential when buying an existing business. Letting the word leak out prematurely can be very harmful to each party, in a variety of ways. You enjoy research as much as I do, Jo. Do some Googling about purchasing an existing business and you may find that though you don’t like the way the Polyvore-SSENSE transaction was handled, it may have been due to standard agreement that each was legally obligated to adhere to, which, whether we like it or agree with it, or not, is just part of the transaction process.
Also, with Polyvore being IN DEBT and needing to pull out before their ship sunk completely, I could see SSENSE using that debt as leverage to get a commitment of confidentiality. Again, why SSENSE may have needed/wanted/insisted on confidentiality - IF they did at all, is something you may want to research, as there are so many possible reasons.
HOWEVER, one thing to consider is that it may have been Polyvore insisting on confidentiality. Give us a heads-up and we’ll go elsewhere, which means activity will drop while the potential buyer is looking over their business, doing their research, and holding negotiations. Even on a small scale, this is quite a common practice. A gentleman in my area had a very profitable business, but running it was taking time away from his family and negatively affecting his health, so he sold it. He told no one, as the terms of the sale included a clause stating that said sale would be private until completed. One day, he walked in to work and told all his employees that they have a new owner, a new boss, a new system, and… farewell. I guess we can liken him to Polyvore, but his hands were proverbially tied due to the contractual terms, which again, isn’t unusual.
So it MAY be the fault, if there is fault at all, of the SELLER, not the buyer. All SSENSE did was buy an existing company. They were not responsible to us in any way. Yeah, it would have been very nice of them to at least respond to our inquiries. But who knows... Doing so may have been a breach of their contract. We can't possibly know the terms, and we don't have to agree with them even if we did know. But we do have to respect them. Holding a grudge against Polyvore is understandable, but the buyer (SSENSE) is an innocent.
If it makes you feel better (and I hope it does!), SSENSE is now hitting up websites for a paying audience and they are willing to pay UrStyle, not get in bed with UrStyle, just pay, for advertising space. I say: Let UrStyle take their money while we enjoy the benefits! It’s called “karma”, Baby. Ain’t it a bitch?

I had noticed SSENSE products on here. A few days ago I made a set and did not notice that one of the pieces was from SSENSE until later. I started to delete it but decided I was holding onto something I needed to let go. SSENSE handled the transition poorly, angered a very large group of people, but how long do you stay angry at a person or a company for a mistake? It is unlikely that I will purchase SSENSE items as their actions created distrust. I do not mean that rudely at all, simply an honest logical result in business. Hopefully the backlash from their mistake will help them make wiser business decisions in the future.
I appreciate UrStyle and thank them for this playground upon which I can play for free, well, except when I find something I "need".
You do whatever you feel you need to do, @Gypsy-Jo & ALL, but I sure do hope you hang around. I just found you again in May, so you will be dearly missed if you leave. Either way, wish you the best because you are the best and even though I made a different choice, I completely understand how you could come to a different conclusion, so no worries! (((huge hug)))

I guess SSENSE has finally come back to haunt us. Blame both Polyvore and SSENSE! Polyvore had to let go of a money losing situation, and greedy SSENSE thought they could up their customer base on the Polyvore members left behind. What a sad mistake they made when they acquired Polyvore. I was very upset like all of you, however, I realize that moving on was the best. I tried several sites and finally ended up for good here. I do not like to even look at the name SSENSE!! I think that Urstyle should advertise them some other place on this site, and not on our set pages. Well, I found the solution, and that is my ad blocker from Google. It takes that terrible ad away from each set. Now I do not have to be subjected to that name among my set items anymore.

SSENCE really isn't the bad guy. (Read my detailed reply above.) We do not know what conditions they, and Polyvore, were legally obligated to follow during the transaction...
I'm glad that you found that Ad Blocker from Google and works to keep them off the page so you don't have to see the logo! That's a great work-around for anyone who wants to stay but doesn't want to see the SSENSE name!

As someone who works in the corporate world, and would rather escape that world by hanging out in the Urstyle world…wish I had never read this topic..sigh!!!! But…..
It is as @funkyjunkygypsy says, the sale of PV was a business transaction, the details of which we will never know. And like @jesuisunlapin stated, I had the read the same corporate trail, involving Polyvore, Verizon, Yahoo, AOL & Oath Corp. That was probably the “death sentence” of PV long before Ssense ever came along. Big corporations buy up innovative smaller companies all the time. Often it is for just “one piece” of their technology, product, etc. Once the bigger company has that singular item they want, there are 2 choices. They sell off the rest of that purchase as a “buy product.” The other choice is the larger corporation completely “dissolves” the smaller company.
Petco did the latter option, when they purchased Drs. Fosters & Smith. They took what they wanted from that purchase, and discontinued Dr. F&S products that so many have bought for years. I have had to scramble to try & find alternative products for the health of my dogs because of this.
I was shocked to see Ssense here. But IMHO, if Ssense is putting out money to be part of UrStyle, then in a way, indirectly, they are making retribution to us all and making a better UrStyle platform. PV is gone. But if we all support Ssense wanting to part of UrStyle and the outcome is bigger, better than what Polyvore was, who has the last laugh? Of course, if that happens…Yahoo, Verizon, AOL, Oath Corp. may try to “buy us out….again, LOL” Hugs and Love to all!!!
