Ways to help site out. (server issues).

  • Cheap but Trendy

Here's a list of ways to help reduce server issues.

    • come here in less peak times, like not late evening.
Delete old items to free space on the site.
      Refresh the site less.
Stop leaving the page running when you aren't using it. (a tab window on phone)
Clip less. Visit collection place more often for items to use.
Think more mindful about how you create more traffic.

    These are good hints!

What if they limited the number of sets to say 200? Would that help? Or if they were archived.

  • It's All About The Background!

I would love to delete items that I have downloaded and no longer want but I don't know how to do that. I do unfave items at times but that probably does not help since they are already on the site.

  • Just Vintage

@bev I'd love to know how to delete items too

  • Style File

@Bev @Shelley-Harcar If I understand correctly you are wanting to removed items you have clipped. Did you save to collection? If so, go to the collection, open the collection and there will be an x in the upper right of the item. Clicking that x will remove the item.

    @fashionmonkey Thank You so much!

@shelley-harcar to remove items go to organise items. Then select your items to delete. Then click the trash can delete button instead of adding it to a collection.

  • I understand some of what you're saying but none of these would solve the problems. The current server can't handle the number of people using the site. I'll just stop there...

Not trying to stir the proverbial pot... Your intentions are good, but these suggestions, though meant to be helpful, will do nothing. They only address the issue -- partially if at all -- on our end. 😕

We should not have to do anything to help UrStyle run properly. Consider that we do not need to do any of these things, or anything else, for other websites to function and load, such as Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc.

The amount of items we have stored, the amount of images we clip, leaving windows open and running... These do not affect the speed in which the server delivers. The server is the problem, not what we're doing on the site. UrStyle obviously doesn't have enough bandwidth, memory, or storage (likely all of this and then some) needed to enable everything to run smoothly.

To have to avoid using this site during "peak" times... Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Clip less? Then why is there a Clipper Tool? It should not be offered if it slows down the website, but again, this is not the problem.

We are not slowing down UrStyle. I can visually see a map of my connection going right to a local server and the connection is smooth as silk. The problem originates at the UrStyle server and nothing we can do on our end is going to fix that problem. UrStyle's server does not have enough power to handle all the activity. For us to slow down the amount of activity defeats THEIR purpose. They need to switch servers. Theirs does not have the capacity to handle all the requests. It's that simple. 🙂

If we stop making requests, such as clipping, storing our items, etc., we may as well stop making Sets. 😮 Those have to be stored on UrStyle as well.

Sure, we can do things to make our own computers/devices run a little faster, but that won't make UrStyle's server more efficient. And yes, many times, if we clear our cache and perform other little tweaks, we can improve how our computers receive information -- BUT if the server is unable to send that information, we're 💩 outta luck, no matter what we do. 😟

@funkyjunkygypsy Polyvore was sold for 200 million so it's obviously a lucrative endeavor. I am worried that they are not updating retail items as someone mentioned because this means less money coming in from their affiliates.

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @melzstyle They're not updating something... 😉

@arjanadesign YOU ARE 100 % CORRECT THEY CAN'T HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF USER'S,AND IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THEY ARE ALL THAT CONCERNED IN LOSING SOME OF US,MY CLIPPER HAS NEVER EVER WORKED WELL I MAY IF I'M LUCKY GET 2 ITEMS OUT OF MAYBE 25 THAT I'VE CLIPPED...SO NOW I JUST HAVE TO TAKE THINGS FROM OTHER FOLKS WHEN I CAN.I HOPE THIS ISN'T A SIGN THEY ARE READY TO SHUT US ALL DOWN,LIKE OUR BELOVED POLYVORE DID,SEEMS TO ME IF THEY WERE REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT US THEY WOULD AT LEAST AT THE VERY MOST INFORM US WHY THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON AND ON AND ON...I'M SERIOUSLY THINKING OF GOING BACK TO TRENDME IT'S NOT THE GREATEST BUT IT BEATS GETTING SO FREAKING FUSTRATED EVERY TIME I GO TO TRY TO MAKE AN ART SET...SORRY FOR MY RANT HUGS LOUISE

I agree that there is not enough bandwidth to handle the users on the site. I don't think there is much the user's will do to reduce the issues because the site has created the problem in the manner it's set up.

It took me a while to understand that to get your name to show (credit) for items you clip, you have to leave them housed in ITEMS. If you organize them to your collections then delete them from the items category you loose having your name appear as the person that clipped them. You have to leave them in both places duplicating them until you create something with them or somebody else creates with them. I understand it's a sharing site and the expectation is that Urstyle can build their supply base by doing it this way because users will take items from each other.

But, it's a bad process to me. Some users clip hundreds of items at a time but don't use them all until they need them. In order to keep credit for the work you've done clipping, you end up leaving the items sitting in 2 places (items & collections) taking up more server space. Also leaving them in ITEMs causes you to run the risks of some users that don't clip much or at all taking your unused items for their own creations before you can use them. This has already created some issues on it's own. To decrease the space, leave the user's name on the item once it's clipped regardless of where the original clipper of the item stores it. Then you can delete a clipped item from your ITEMS without loosing credit for having clipped it.

@idetached what urstyle needs is to get money from advertising peoples products on the site. Companies payed for that and held contests to share the items they sell.
If more companies payed for advertising then we'd be able to have urstyle move to a bigger server.

  • Twisted Gypsies

@idetached I have never had that problem. I move them all to a temporary collection to be sorted and there they stay, out of MY ITEMS. The "FJG" I put on each remains.

  • CHANGE IT UP 2.o

@dotingsage I believe they already do get paid for product placement. That's why we see promotional items posted on the front pages. They also ask users to remove the ad blocker when using this site. I know because I got the message asking me to deactivate my ad blocker to get full use of the site..

  • CHANGE IT UP 2.o

@funkyjunkygypsy I took a look and noticed you don't keep anything in items. If you can clip and store your unused items in collections and keep your FJG on them maybe it's the way you clip and use your clipped items right away to create. I can't tell if you clip and store unused items. I didn't see any unused items with your FJG on it. I believe it should work the way you say, it did on Polyvore. But, if you check out many of the users a lot of items are shared from, they have huge stored items in the thousands, some over 10,000 items.

We all see and use a lot of clipped items that are not credited to anyone. It's blank. As an example look at eyesondesign, one of our most active user's. I believe we have all liked items of hers to reuse. Her ITEMS count is in the high thousands.

I had this discussion with some other users when we were all trying to enter a contest that required you to enter using items you clip. None of us had our user names showing up on our items because we were all putting them in collections then deleting them from items. Once deleted from items, our user names were also removed unless the item had been used previously to create. I hope I'm explaining this in an understandable way.
