Living in an area where the last dangerous weather event occurred 55 years ago, @JewelsInTheCrown is expecting a cyclone, which some know as a tornado -- and we all know what damage this kind of whirly weather can do. Like most of us, @JewelsInTheCrown has never experienced a cyclone and this one promises to be bad. Winds rushing in at speeds up to 150k, which is approximately 93.21 Miles Per Hour, threatening to shred whatever's in it's path. Named "Cyclone Alfred", not only will the cyclonic winds be strong and dangerous, but "Alfred" is going to flood a great deal of ground with a deluge of rain and thunderstorms, the rain pouring down 400--500 ml EACH DAY. If my calculations are correct, that means approximately 19.685 Inches of rain will fall EVERY DAY this storm lasts. This is because this storm has been at sea for weeks and has gathered up lots of water.
@JewelsInTheCrown lives just 20 minutes from the coast and doesn't have much protection from the elements, as she lives next to a park and an open area. The wind, she tells me, has begun to pick up and swirl around. She's taped her windows and then ran out of tape! She's been told that when the storm hits, it will sound like a jet plane for hours. Can you imagine how frightening this has to be? Certainly, electricity will go out.
Storms tend to change direction. Alfred is supposed to come through on Friday in the early hours or on Saturday morning, which means destruction for those near water or beaches as these times are when high-tide occurs. I am very worried about @JewelsInTheCrown and those in her area. She tells me: "We are in its path going to be hit big time."
She unplugged her computer so she will not be online. She asks us to keep South East Queensland and Northern NSW (New South Wales) in our prayers. Make those prayers mightier than a cyclone!
There is so much about this storm online. Just search "Cyclone Alfred" and you'll be scared out of your wits. One news website lead with "...Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to spell disaster for those in its path." It's being called a Mega-Storm. Evacuations are taking place. So much to follow. I'll keep you posted, or @JewelsInTheCrown will. Do keep this fine lady in mind and pray for her protection and her strength. I may not reply to this post, as you can follow it live online.
Thank you all, and please pass this link around!

I've been following this on the news. Wondering if any of our friends lived near this. Wishing her all the best. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Many prayers for @jewelsinthecrown and Queensland.

@funkyjunkygypsy I understand the fear Michelle is fearing as I lived in South East Queensland for years. I pray Michelle will stay safe. I still have family there that I'm in touch with them constantly. Thankfully, when we we're hit by the cyclone it was the winds and rain that were the most devastating. Twice the town was flooded severely and on one of those occasions the town was cut off where you couldn't get in or out. Sending prayers to all who are in the path of Alfred. Hugs to all xx

@greta-martin I gather it has become world news by now. I know CNN has it. Yes a scary experience but it will turn into an east low with lots of rain. You know it’s been the driest summer and now this and it’s Autumn. Most of here in the south have never experienced anything like this but our northern neighbours have informed us on FB. By northern I mean northern Qld. I will keep you all updated expected now to hit between-a window of 4pm tomorrow and Saturday morning. It’s Thursday evening here. It was expected tonight but it slowed down over warmer waters. Bless you all for your prayers my friends.

@jewelsinthecrown So glad you made it through! I understand the feeling of sadness for those who had loss. I live in Los Angeles and the fires were heartbreaking. Even though I was about 15 miles away from the fires, I had this weird survivors guilt. It makes you so thankful for just the basics we take for granted. Hugs to you.
-
@fashionmonkey Certainly does and how horrendous those fires were everyone felt that and smelt it. Thank you sweetheart now waiting to see how long his tail lasts with the winds and rain.
