1st Place: Freedom by @FASSIONISTA
Judge's Commentary (paraphrased):
@FASSIONISTA certainly represented Lady Liberty well; as a symbol for America and the "Melting Pot" (mix of people from different backgrounds that all blend together once they become Americans) that our country was said to be but never quite became. There is still racism, sexism, and so many other "isms" that separate us, and none of them need to exist. @FASSIONISTA's Statue of Liberty is a fierce, fabulous example of all women exerting their power. She is a force to be reckoned with and I wouldn't mind seeing her posed this way for real instead of holding her torch. @FASSIONISTA's Lady Liberty has no torch to bear. She realizes her worth and has taken the freedom she deserves. A stunning tribute to women, to the changing face of America, and to the blessing of a strong spirit. Congrats to you on a very well-earned and deserving 1st Place Win!!!
2nd Place: Vintage Ms Liberty by @DYAN Judge's Commentary (paraphrased):
A perfect primitive, folksy work of art that is true "Americana". Delightful! Both the MGJ and I love the softer tones, the antiqued effect, and the impressive impact this Set has. There is boldness here, and such beauty and nostalgia. Outstanding visual appeal! Congrats to you, @DYAN, on 2nd Place for such an original, creative creation with charm. We adore it!!!
3rd Place: Lady Liberty Moves To Vegas by @MINERVA Judge's Commentary (paraphrased):
Like our Lady Liberty, Las Vegas is also an American icon. It’s had a "miniature" Statue of Liberty in its city since 1981. The bawdiness of the city itself, of @MINERVA’s Lady (?) Liberty showing off her red-hot lingerie with a come-hither look of seduction, and all that cash falling at her feet... Well, there is much to be said about "Sin City" and this version of Lady (?) Liberty could be its mascot! The activities Vegas is known for: gambling; greed; broken dreams; poverty; homelessness; crime; lust; prostitution; drunken debauchery; drunken drivers; public drunkenness, fighting, and violence; being one of the most polluted cities in the U.S.; the lack of moral entertainment for families... I could go on and on. None of this is what the designers of our Statue of Liberty had in mind when creating her -- which is what makes this Set so terrifically twisted! @MINERVA designed such a lively, cheeky composition with an eye-catching arrangement. Her use of shadowing gives this Set depth and dimension, and dare I say, the effect over-all has "dement-ion"? Ha ha! Well done, @MINERVA! Congrats on 3rd Place!!!
4th Place: Liberation Liberty by @GIRLYIDEAS Judge's Commentary (paraphrased):
This gorgeous gal is a stunner, lifting her glass to America and to us while enjoying a martini as she shimmer, sparkles, and shines. She IS "absolutely fabulous", as declared within the Set itself. @GIRLYIDEAS, our MGJ was VERY impressed that you not only found a red-white-and-blue PlayGirl magazine (Way to go!!!) but you also sized and positioned it to fit perfectly in place of Lady Liberty's tablet. Girly, you always come up with imaginative Sets, and this one is no exception. I personally love your eye for color. In a scene that one might expect to feel slightly flat in tone, you used your artistic skill to create a Set that is striking, glamourous, and captivating! Congrats to you!!!
5th Place: Liberty Visits the South Bronx by @KATEOLIVE Judge's Commentary (paraphrased):
Great humor and vibe to this unexpected and fun Set. Everyone's having a good time dancin' to the beats! The MGJ and I both learned more about the Hip-Hop culture from your fascinating commentary, @KATEOLIVE. Worth a read, Members! I was brought back to 1981 and my own introduction to Rap Music when the rock band 'Blondie' released "Rapture", an unusual, yet funky song that lead singer Debbie Harry and bandmate Chris Steinwhich co-wrote. They incorporated rap music with the pop music of the time, which was Disco! Rapture became the first Number One Hit in music history to feature rap vocals! A great celebration of Lady Liberty and a terrific tribute to a significant style of music. PS) The visual of Lady Liberty is hilarious! Congrats on your "hip" Set and WIN!!!
6th Place: Earth Goddess by @NOLAGIGGLES Judge's Commentary (paraphrased):
This is truly a fantastic piece, and so timely considering everything that's going on with our biological environment, with global warming, and considering how damaged our precious planet is. Our MGJ found such hope in your vision of Lady Liberty transforming herself into an Earth Goddess, @NOLAGIGGLES. Mother Earth could certainly use her help right now! What a statement this Set makes, and what a compelling concept! The layering makes it feel both delicate and wild, emphasizing the contrast of emotion evoked by your image. We're all distressed over how Nature is being destroyed, and yet your Lady Liberty seems to hint at a promise of healing, but only if we unite... Such a provocative portrait with a profound message and meaning. Magnificent! Congrats!!!
7th Place: Angel Out of Darkness by @MIRANDAE-BAGGINS Judge's Commentary (paraphrased):
Surrounded by fire, this Lady Liberty is unfazed, her face showing confidence in herself and in America. With the world burning all around her (perhaps both literally and figuratively), she firmly holds up her torch, ready to fight fire with fire. Her expression shows no fear. Instead: victory. She is already victorious in that SHE is her greatest power. Her clinging gown emphasizes an exceptional female form, one possessing all the vitality and strength she needs. She's got this. She is our American Angel, with wings not of feathers, but of some unearthly metal -- and mettle. @MIRANDAE-BAGGINS, you have created a phenomenal Set that wowed both our Mystery Guest Judge and myself. I'm sure your fellow Twisted Gypsies are equally as impressed! Extraordinary imagery! Congrats on your wonderful win!

What can I say that I haven’t already said to you? Your enthusiasm for our Twisted Gypsies Contests, always submitting numerous entries, and your humorous ones always cracking me up…. And that fugly cape! Ha ha ha! You are just a joy, @SJLEW; the true heart and soul of funky fun! Though many of your entries did give Lady Liberty a new look, and most gave me a giggle, I literally laughed out loud when I saw “I’m Sorry Wilson”. That was so unexpected and so divinely twisted that it deserves its own category, hence this much deserved Honorable Mention and a special Set just for you! (Please feel free to collect the Participants' Award Set as well!)Yeah, yeah, yeah… I know it may seem to some Group Members that I favor @SJLEW, yet I do not do the judging. When a Set is a stand-out, so much that it really stays with me and it hasn’t been chosen by our Judge, I will select it for its own special placement. Honorable Mentions have been awarded to many of our members, and are not awarded in every contest – which is what makes winning them so sweet!
