Items moved to collection not removed from item pool

Hi, I’m new here. I’ve been liking items and organizing by placing into collections but after selecting items and adding to a collection by selecting the plus (+) symbol the items do not disappear upon selecting ‘unassigned’. This is frustrating because I can’t determine which items have been put into collections already. Please help
