I have a question...

  • I have gotten a notice from a member here to unlike items she brought in and take down the art I made with her "face claims"... she left me the link to my art that had her pictures in them. When i tried to see the items I used in the set it does not let me in. So what I am saying is when I hit the tab "items in set" it does not allow me access. **Has anyone else had this happen? Are all items brought in public domain? what is @urstyle policy here? this member does not have anything on her profile at this point that asks other members to not use her picutres... thanks so much for any help here. If I am doing something wrong I would like to know so I don't do it in the future. At this point I told this member I would not like future items but I would not destroy my art...

  • @heartsongs Isn't that a bit silly to ask you to take down your art, smh.I love it when you use my items and to see what you've made of them ❤️️❤️️❤️️

@heartsongs I don’t know, I'm a little afraid of such people. I am very pleased when someone else needed my items. Even if someone copies my set to 50%, I would not ask him to remove it.

  • Chic Style

The "items used in set" button does not always work. However, usually after a short time, if you try it again it will work. Sorry that happened to you. Best of luck with it.

@heartsongs Hi Sweetie. First of all, she does not have any kind of copright claim on her items and she needs to be aware of that. Unless she drew them herself, or you used personal photos of hers, or you have copied her Sets with these Items, she has no legal right to ask you to do this.

If she doesn't want people to "Like" her items, she can put them in her Collections and use the privacy button so no one else can copy them.

We ALL share our Items and Collections on URSTYLE. They aren't 'OURS'. We are making composites of what is offered to us online. So I wouldn't even begin to go through the stress of picking out her Items in your Sets because legally, they don't belong to her, they belong to the artists who made them.

If someone does not want to share their Items or their Collections, they should make it clear on their Profile Page and this person needs to understand that this is a Platform where we all share, especially those of us who got hacked from Polyvore 2 years ago. We lost everything and had to start all over again and URSTYLE has been amazing at making participating so much better!

    @heartsongs
If you refresh/reload a page where the "Items In Set" link isn't working correctly, it should work after the page fills in again. It's a glitch with UrStyle, nothing the User did to block you and nothing UrStyle did intentionally.

Here's a question... What if I were to Like some of this gal's items and then you were to Like them from me? Would you be doing anything wrong? No.

Now let's read a portion of UrStyle's User agreement, which the artist who told you not to use "her" items should have read when she signed up:
"..... any items you import, and sets you create on the Website will be made available to the public. Further, you hereby grant us, our affiliates, and our partners a worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free, nonexclusive, sublicensable license to use, reproduce, create derivative works of, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, transfer, transmit, distribute, and publish the sets you have created using the Website."

    Note the first line:
"... any items you import, and sets you create on the Website will be made available to the public. "

That means that: if you upload it, anyone here may use it while on this website. Oh yeah, and UrStyle is automatically given usage rights and distribution rights to what you upload, which is WHY they make the items used in Sets available for use. They could block/prevent this, but they do not.

Once we upload anything to UrStyle, it is URSTYLE who takes rights to it and copies the image and redistributes it. They do this by offering the LIKE feature. If they removed that feature, you would not be able to make a copy of an item (which is essentially what you're doing when you LIKE something) and you would therefore, not be able to use that item. So 'Like' away! Help yourself to everything she's got if you want. Her issue is with UrStyle, not you. She should have read UrStyle's usage terms.

UrStyle also states: "Images on the Website are intellectual property of copyright owner and may not be used for commercial use without permission from the owner."
This may seem contradictory, but it is not. Unless you take original graphic art created by a UrStyle User and use that art to sell something, such as to design a physical business card with it, you are free to use the art/graphic as much as you like on UrStyle.

Lastly, there are some things UrStyle does not want Users to do and UrStyle reserves the right to terminate a membership if a User breaks their rules. Here's a rule I think you might like:
(You may not) Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying any public area within our sites... You may want to tell your new friend this. 😉

So you see, it is not you at all, but SHE that is doing something wrong. She has no right to tell you not to use graphics she's loaded to UrStyle. If she didn't want them to be redistributed for anyone on UrStyle to use, she never should have uploaded them here. She can throw tantrums all she wishes, but them's the facts, Ma'am. 😘

Now go refresh those pages and have at it!

@heartsongs @FunkyJunkyGypsy Just like to add to FJG post that when an item is uploaded not only does it come into the members profile but it also is uploaded to the public and can be found under the Art tab in create mode if you know what to look for in the search section. All items are shared to all members this way.

  • All Things Wedding

Public domain sweetie, you put items on display unless copyright. Items clipped to Urstyle stored by urstyle belong to urstyle. Some people get way too snippy. NO do not remove your art, my collection is open to anyone. I nor anyone else owns them, Items on here will be used 1,000's of times, they can originate from anywhere. Block her, sounds like a whiny drama queen!

  • @kiaw Thank you for your reply, so good to know how you feel! I appreciate your generosity and do love your creations. They are so fun to create with! Hugs ❤

  • @oksana-kolesnyk Thank you for sharing how you feel. I do appreciate it. Her note wasn't cruel, just definite in what she wanted. I was taken aback by her request as I thought all here was for everyone to use. And being she did not have anything written on her profile at the time... I just thought I needed to check this out... thank you so much again for your input! ❤

  • @dyan thank so much for answering my quesion about the button!! I will go try again. I am curious what pc it is. ❤

  • @rainheartart Thanks so much for this info!!! I so appreciate it! I thought so but wanted to make sure! I will proceed forward with this information. Now I feel better knowing I did not do anything wrong, nor in the future am doing anything wrong using any items here. Whew. 🙂 ❤ ❤ ❤

  • Twisted Gypsies

@heartsongs You are welcome! Glad I could help! 🙂

  • @funkyjunkygypsy Thank you, thank you, thank you for all these direct quotes, copied and pasted here! I love your humor and how you explain this. Such good info to have! I laughed as I read this. I did give her the link here to read all this for herself and so she knows this request she makes is not allowed here and that many others are aware. I hope now she won't ask anyone else. Thanks to for answering the question about the "items used in set" tab! I did try refreshing that page to no avail yesterday but I know some days are more glitchy than others, so I will try again there. Good to know it is nothing another user can do. Thank you again for all this info delivered in such a delightful way! hugs ❤

  • @ollie Great info, much appreciated! Thanks so much my friend! ❤

  • @sjlew Thank you for your input and support! No, I won't remove my art, to destroy it would actually be heartbreaking for me...hugs ❤

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @ollie said in I have a question...:

hen an item is uploaded not only does it come into the members profile but it also is uploaded to the public and can be found under the Art tab in create mode if you know what to look for in the search section. All items are shared to all members this way.

I totally overlooked that! Glad you added this because that only backs up the point about UrStyle redistributing uploaded graphics. If it's there for the taking, it's because UrStyle made it available to us. Thanks for that, Ollie!

  • Twisted Gypsies

@heartsongs Oh, I am SO happy you got a giggle out of it! And yet, all is factual. Ya just have to look at the terms of the Usage Agreement that we all accept when we sign up to use UrStyle. When I post a personal photo, I put a copyright mark on it in hopes that no one else will use that photo to make art with --- which is why I rarely put up anything personal. The mark is there as a "request" for those who will respect that the photo belongs to me, realizing that once UrStyle loads it, it's considered a "graphic" and those people who don't respect my request can use the copy (if they have no heart) regardless. Nevertheless, have at it, Lady! And help yourself to "my" stuff. New Collections opening all the time!

PS) I've uploaded images of previous Polyvore Sets of mine which I named: Set by FunkyJunkyGypsy, which are, once uploaded, considered by UrStyle and any computer as an image file, and I've have seen those images (of entire Sets) used as graphics in other people's Sets! LOL!
