It’s definitely a demotivating factor & damaging to members’ morale.
P.S. Maybe URSTYLE team is demotivated as well. It’s a lot of work to maintain a website like this & it seems they are not making enough money to cover all of its costs. Plus, they won’t work for free.
-
what confuses me is that the featured page is the home page...if urstyle needs more funding, why not keep it updated for investors? to show all your active users?
seems a bad sign to me!
not to be cynical but please back up your sets and texts! save them to your disk just in case. it’s always good practice
-
@fabulous-monster I can’t tell you the last time I’ve even looked at the home page because the same sets have been up there for months. On PV, I was always looking to see who made top sets, and on URStyle, it was a way for me to see and “meet” members
Now, it’s more like a pretty book cover that I have no need to look at again. @admin, are there any plans to start updating the home page in the future?
-
@fassionista yes, we want to apply automated publications on home page to give all users equal chance
-
@dotingsage @Fassionista I know you started a member spotlight on your page, but what if a group of us made a group that had contests and just chose featured sets or did like a collection of featured sets every week or two days. The winners would be in a collection for that week or something like that. It’s just an idea, technicalities would have to be worked out, but it could hold people over for the time being because everyone is getting frustrated that there are no new featured sets.
-
@mayblooms maybe if the featured members each week had a set in a collection or 2 sets each month.
Then it be 4 users a month. 2 sets each.It would be hard to do a contest because they need a theme each time. Plus it's one admin of group picking. With nominations it's community picking the members. Not whoever has more free time to join contests.
-
@dotingsage okay I see what you’re saying. so let me make sure I have this straight: the featured sets would be in a collection over a section of a week, meaning four collections in a month, and the member spotlighted would have two sets in that collection? please correct me if I’m wrong.
-
@mayblooms no it be all the members who were featured that month in one collection.
Each member having 2 sets they made in the collection. -
@dotingsage okay got it!
-
There appears to be a 12 second "lag" with the site. You click on something and it takes approximately 12 seconds before anything happens. We just wish someone from admin would make an announcement. Are you updating again? Is the site leaving? It's obvious that its been frustrating. This is a big scale project. Can someone level with us please?
-
@blueknight They haven't had any trouble taking our money monthly!
-
@jesuisunlapin they need to get businesses paying to have their stuff advertised on here. Through contests or something to bring in money.
I don't think they know what they're doing to get money. I wish if they were struggling they would ask us members for help. -
@dotingsage they asked for help before. Only 14 members contributed through Patreon, only 7 are contributing now.
There are a lot of demands, high costs involved to accommodate all of them & URSTYLE team work to get there. Advertisers won’t pay the bills either. It’s not a blog.
Polyvore was initially funded in three rounds by six investors, including initial investors Benchmark Capital and Harrison Metal, plus Matrix Partners and DAG Ventures as lead investors in later rounds. Sponsored contests were not their main revenue.
They need to change their business model to something like Canva → https://www.canva.com/ ← that’s the way to go.
-
@jesuisunlapin I know sponsored contests weren't polyvores main income but it would help them get noticed by businesses. Once businesses know they can get something out of the site maybe one will sponsor them.
How do YouTubers get sponsorship deals? That's what this site really needs.Sponsored contests will bring in some money and help for now until they get bigger. As soon as a large company is found to sponsor them in exchange for advertising purposes they need something.
Even if small businesses could pay a tiny fee to have their own advert, be cool.
-
@jesuisunlapin people don't want to pay if they're not getting something out of it. If a business payed a small fee for advertising here, they would more likely pay. Getting fashion brands having items used in people's sets is going to be a good thing for their custome base.
If urstyle did a shout out on this site for small business to come forward, they could help each other out. The businesses involved give us a prize for contest and they gain more advertising. If it was a regular basis then bigger businesses would eventually get involved.
They could have 3 packages for this:
1- being tiny business who do short 3-5 day contest with winner getting a free item or whatever the bus can afford e. G. 10% off.2- medium payment. Business does week contest with a prize for 2 winners. Plus they get advert on the home page of their business for duration of the contest and on urstyle social media.
3- large payment. Long contest for 2 weeks or more. Bigger advert on the site maybe even a short video.. Added to list of shops with the discount codes if the business has any in place. Advert on urstyle social media. (social media ads would be about contest but with showcase of the business).
Urstyle

@dotingsage based on my 20 years of Business & Management experience, I completely disagree. I respect your opinion though.
URSTYLE users are their customers, their main source of revenue. Now they have to identify what these customers value and are willing to pay for. URSTYLE users (typically) don’t buy the items featured on the website, they just want to create things (sets, collections, contests) & upload tons of items in order to create those things. For instance, I pay US$20.99/mo. to use Photoshop and US$9.95/mo. to use Canva because I value and need what they have to offer. I continue contributing US$5.00/mo. to URSTYLE because I know it’s fair.
URSTYLE is a platform for creatives that is completely different from YouTube.
Businesses, small or big ones, won’t get nothing out of it. Polyvore created a ‘bubble’, an illusion, it was never the website forte to sell products.
URSTYLE need to create a monthly cash flow projection and balance it with projected costs. If they are able to raise money from outside investors, besides their users, the business should be able to be sufficiently capitalized.
Cheers.

@jesuisunlapin I see. Sponsered contests although small revenue could help for now.
Users benefit from trying to win discounts or free items.
Its a tricky situation because how do you get the investors in first place? -
@dotingsage as I said before, I respect your POV and kindly disagree.
You get investors, for example, by applying to startup accelerator programs, equity crowdfunding platforms, and by attending events like WebSummit or TechCrunch Disrupt.
If you focus enough and get your service out there in the hands of the right customers (in this case, designers) and influencers, investors will show up.
-
@jesuisunlapin so really they need to target influencers.
Ones who have high profile instagram or YouTube accounts to get more users. If enough of those people get involved and tell their followers about urstyle , it will bring the investors, am I right? -
@dotingsage as a last resort, yes. That’s a very saturated market, so it’s expensive to get there. It takes a lot of money to make a lot of money. They have to try some of the other options before.
They have to find the right niche of popular influencers as well, such as fashions designers, costume designers, stylists, graphic designers, interior designers, collage artists etc. Most importantly, they need to distance themselves from Polyvore, otherwise they will always be compared to the latter. They must start fresh and build their own community & business relationships.
