Slow to Upload Items

When I try to upload images from my laptop to my items it is soooo slow. The first time I tried to do this, I think it took hours to complete; that, or it didn't even show that they successfully uploaded, but then a few days later I saw them in my profile.
I'm trying to upload an image now (i made sure the image was the right size) and it shows the little gray circle icon that means it's uploading, but it's taking a long time again.
Is there a reason that my images are taking a really long time to upload? How can I make the process faster? Any help would be really appreciated, thanks!
