They knew each other vaguely, but since Lily always seemed to be in the other teacher’s class, it was rare that they intertwined. But not after today. Wallas had a plan. The day before, she ripped her beloved yellow construction paper in half and used her favorite crayon to begin scrawling her address widely across the top. When she realized that one might have to be able to actually read the handwriting, she asked her mom to finish the rest. And there it was, folded safely in the front pocket of her overalls. Leia was home sick that day; normally they wanted to invite the newbies together. But Wallas was sure she would grant this exception. She marched right up to the suddenly wide-eyed girl. “It’s Lily, right?” A small pause. “Yeah, why?” Wallas pulled out the yellow invite like a business card. “I’m Wallas.” That dynamite signature smile of hers. “Yeah, I know.” Lily’s own tugged at the corner of her lips; Wallas had that contagious charisma about her from day one. “Doesn’t your mom own the flower shop?” A reluctant grasp of the little paper. “Um, yep, she does. So?” And, finally, the sentences that would change Lily’s life forever: “Well, this is basically destiny! That’s my address; see you after school!” Back then, Lily wasn’t really the daring type. Why would she go to some random girl’s house? But sure enough, she asked her mom to bring her for a “playdate” because, truthfully, she didn’t understand how to navigate to an unknown address on her bike. And the rest is history.

››› No one knows about Lily’s financial situation. She often bites her tongue when things like going shopping, planning expensive trips, and the like come up. Although internally she can get upset with her friends when they complain about some very privileged things, Lily is too scared to call them out on it because then her own situation would have to be explained. She is very loathsome of pity. Her only child syndrome { 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒿𝓊𝓈𝓉 𝓌𝒶𝓉𝒸𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒽𝑜𝓌 𝒽𝑒𝓇 𝑜𝓌𝓃 𝓅𝒶𝓇𝑒𝓃𝓉𝓈 𝓇𝑒𝒶𝒸𝓉𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝒾𝓇 𝓈𝓉𝓇𝓊𝑔𝑔𝓁𝑒𝓈 } sort of manifested itself in a way of wanting to be entirely independent. If her friends started to try to take care of her, it would honestly hurt her more than help her. But knowing how sweet and rich most of the other girls are, she knows it would be hard to ask them to not do so. That’s why, long ago, Lily decided it was easier to not tell anyone.

››› Lily is not very loud with her affection . . . when she is sober. The devil is in the details. Yes, she leaves one million comments on your instagram selfie about how cute you are, but her in-person gushing is not so obvious. She’s the type to give you an encouraging smile when you’re telling a story but the overall group attention drifted away. Even though they’re all going crazy over something else, Lily will cuddle in a bit closer and ask you to finish. She’ll leave a note on your locker saying, “𝒢𝑜𝑜𝒹 𝓁𝓊𝒸𝓀,” with the special pet name she has assigned just for you because two weeks ago you mentioned being nervous for your chem test that’s coming up. And she noticed that you listened to that new song 8 times on repeat on Spotify yesterday, so she made sure to add it to the next party’s playlist in hopes that hearing your new favorite will convince you to go onto the dance floor with her. She may never remember to say that she loves you. She might not shower you with sunshine like Leia or Wallas. But if you think back on the memories, you may just realize how Lily would do anything for you.

››› Well, that is to say, Lily 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉𝓈 to do anything for you. She might not always remember. If you want a task to actually be completed, it’s better to ask someone else. Lily is so focused on her jobs and then having fun anytime she’s not on the clock that she can’t really be considered responsible. She is not maliciously going to forget the party decorations. It just completely slipped her mind. And yes, Leia has tried to buy Lily an absolutely adorable planner to get her to write things down and remember to complete them. But in order for that to be effective, Lily would actually have to use it. We all know she lost that gift within one week of owning it.

››› Her room is never clean, and her house is very small. Even though Lily loves her parents and the Vegas are super kind to all of Lily’s friends, she will almost never let anyone come over. It makes her uncomfortable. It’s also part of why Lil has that habit of bursting into people’s houses instead of making concrete plans. What if they asked to go to her place? No, no. Better to just be spontaneous. Of course, people might get occasionally annoyed at Lily’s sudden appearances. { 𝐻𝑒𝓎, 𝐼 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊, 𝒷𝓊𝓉 𝐼'𝓂 𝓉𝓇𝓎𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝑜 𝓌𝓇𝒾𝓉𝑒 𝒶𝓃 𝑒𝓈𝓈𝒶𝓎 𝓇𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉 𝓃𝑜𝓌. } But for the most part, it works out in her favor and brings about another fun adventure.

››› Throughout this year, Lily will learn how her fear of change is so problematic. Things will always inevitably change in life. If she isn’t willing to adjust and try new things or accept new ways that friendship can operate then it’s going to be even harder to be her friend. This will be especially apparent with the new girls who should and will be joining the LDC. Lily can seem a bit untrusting of others. It’s only because she is worried about not being good enough for people. She knows her place in the current dynamic; what will she do or not do if that changes? However, additional friends will help her realize that her world can always expand. Her heart does not have a finite amount of love in it. She has room to love everyone. Being so open and inviting is something she has always let Leia and Wallas do for her. It will be a part of growing up to find that she is capable of it too.

››› Mali, Wallas, and Lily are almost never seen without each other in the hallways. They basically have their school routines synced. And if she is not with them, Lily is probably basking in the glow of Leia. However, Leia and Ruby are so popular that Lily mostly just hangs out with them after school. She knows she is a bit of a “downer” when it comes to the personas they like to have, which is why she sticks in with Mali and Wallas. They tend to giggle in corners and have a bit more mystery about them. There’s almost always a quiet smirk and secret plan brewing. However, Lily is only chatty in smaller groups. She really isn’t one to assert herself over others or try to be a leader in anyway. When everyone is together in a bigger group, she tends to take a back seat. While this can make her seem standoffish to anyone who doesn’t know better, Lily is definitely more than happy to engage and have a nice conversation with anyone. She just isn’t loud or made for having all eyes on her. It’s much better to catch her away from a large crowd if you want her to crack a smile or joke with you.

››› Unlike her hallway persona, Lily is a goofball in class. She hates paying attention, and most of the subjects drastically bore her. With years of practice, Lily is one of the most talented note-passers and secret-phone-users that Glenville has ever seen. Most teachers dislike her. They know she doesn’t try hard in her work, but she’s also naturally smart enough to get by. It can be frustrating to watch someone who could excel and be talented keep taking non-honors and non-AP classes simply because she doesn’t want to put in the effort. She is not so terrible so as to abandon other people in a group project, but if she has a class with someone like Mali who naturally wants to do most of the work . . . well, she certainly won’t complain. But she’s probably still going to make a silly face at you when the teacher has their back turned like we’re all still in elementary school or something.

››› Chewy’s Lily is a fake persona. That girl does not exist at all. She’s got the biggest, brightest smile you’ve ever seen. She talks an octave higher, and she will always tell you to have a lovely day. Glenville, while modern enough, still is all about that small town charm. Lily’s ticket to getting good tips is trying to be a ray of sunshine. More than once, she has joked that she should go into acting for how much she has to lie in her job. It’s such a relief when her friends have a table in her section; then she can finally stop the bullshit. Lily doesn’t want to be so plastic and fake, but she gets great tips. She can’t risk changing that.

››› Lily tends to be romantically involved with a boy instead of just being his friend. There are, of course, many exceptions to this, especially as she has gotten older. She is clearly only friends with the boys that her own friends like. { 𝒲𝑒’𝓇𝑒 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝓁𝑜𝑜𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒽𝑜𝓅𝑒𝒻𝓊𝓁𝓁𝓎 𝒶𝓉 𝓎𝑜𝓊, 𝐵𝑒𝓃. } But in general, she much prefers having female friends. It actually really frustrates her because Lily does try to be friends with boys. Then time and time again, she has had them say that they like her because they mistake her kindness for flirting. She is tired of assholes who could’ve been great pals but are now assholes because they didn’t want to be “in the friendzone.” So, yeah. Screw the people that says girls are more drama. She has never had struggles with her Daisies like she has with the male species. So annoying.

››› As many of her friends know, Lily is in a stage where she refuses to have feelings for any boys. She is very happy to flirt, hook up with, and the like with someone at a party, but it doesn't progress past that. It's why she mostly likes to get with guys from other schools. The excuse of "long distance" is always the perfect way to get out of everything. Sure, some people might be worried about Lily. Not because they think she's a who/re; just that they fear she is suppressing her pain over Leo and using this as a way to avoid dealing with it. After all, she can be quite snappy and defensive. Almost no one asks her if she has a crush on someone anymore or who she's taking to a school dance. They know her answer will be dismissive. If Lily wants to actually get to a know a boy, it means she is not interested in doing anything with him. Or at least, that's what it used to always mean.

››› But then we have Drunk Lily. She comes around almost every weekend; it's a waste to not live it up, right? So unless a shift at work is keeping her from this week's party { 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒽𝑜𝓃𝑒𝓈𝓉𝓁𝓎, 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒𝓈, 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝒹𝑜𝑒𝓈𝓃'𝓉 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓃 𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓅 𝒽𝑒𝓇 }, then it's another night spent sneaking out of her bedroom. When the booze makes her head feel all light and her worries disappear, Lily can't stop telling you how cute you are. She plucks little dandelions from a yard and weaves them into a chain for your hair. She never calls you by your real name; it's only her endearing nicknames. If you manage to get her off the dance floor, it's probably only for a moment. As soon as she hears a killer song, she'll be back at it again. Lily is not spinning and giggling out there, although of course there is laughter all around. She really knows how to move. And god, oh good god, is she seductive to those poor little boys who don't know any better. They don't know that she gave them the wrong number or that she has no intention of calling them tomorrow. If it's not for the night, Lily isn't interested. Of course, those boys mean nothing to her. A good make-out in the corner is normally all she needs. Unless they're really interesting, she doesn't even go home with them that often. Why would she where there is fun to be had with her Lazy Daisies? She would never pick a boy over one of her friends. However, Lily is a party-hopper. She wants to see everything in one night, so she has a habit of dragging people behind her from one place to the next. When Glenville's McDonalds transitioned to be open 24/7, it was the greatest turning point in her life. That's her little slice of drunk heaven.

Lily doesn’t fight for her affection when they’re in a larger group because she understands that it’s not Wallas’ style. She is a fluttery butterfly who sprinkles a bit of sunshine on everyone. She can’t stay still for long, and Lily would never ask her to. Lily may drag Wallas to go out and then head to yet another party, but that’s about all she makes a move on. It’s Wallas who brings fire to the group, who gathers attention with her wonderful stories, and who has the next big idea. It’s part of why Lily would much rather hang out with Wallas alone versus a larger core. She feels like she can get a bit lost in the throng of it all.

With both girls having spent hours in her flower shop, Wallas feels very comfortable around her. They all have lots of fun together. Rasco and Wallas haven’t spent the same kind of time together, but he does think she’s a great friend and is so happy that Lily has her. { You haven’t written descriptions for your family so I won’t make guesses. But I’m assuming Lily is like an extension of their family from always being over. }

››› Mali, Wallas, and Lily make a small crew within the larger one, just by the nature of the similar personalities. Of course, Lily knows that Wallas has her Benji and Mali has her Chris. Sometimes, she can feel a bit left out. Is she not enough for them? Nevertheless, their antics are endless. They have a lot of wordless chemistry; only one look is needed to fully understand the next shenanigans they will be undertaking.

››› Lily also knows how Wallas can be a sponge for other people’s emotions. She just wants everyone to be happy and light. It’s something she really admires about Wallas, even though she can’t really relate.

Lily stopped asking Mallory if she could come over years ago; it's just an accepted part of their household that she might arrive and stay over at any moment in time. But their own parents are also really close. The Vegas and Niederreiters are often having barbecues and the like together. Frank and Mallory are some of the few people who don't judge Lily's parents and their teen pregnancy. Mallory knows how terrible it is to have people look down on you for your own decisions; she dealt with the same thing in marrying Frank. So they leave all the dirty glances behind and enjoy each other's company. When the families come together, it's always easy laughs all around.

Lily helps Leia let loose; Leia reminds her that she might actually have to sort some of her shit out.

››› All of the Lazy Daisy Crew make jokes about Leia being their mother and Lily being their unreliable but lovable father. Their close bond obviously drives the comparison even further. And although it's a little bit outdated and sexist, as a joke, it seriously is spot-on. Leia basically keeps the group on track. Lily is a wild card with bad jokes but that somehow levels Leia out just perfectly. So don't be surprised if Leia and Lily both turn their heads when they hear anyone say Mom or Dad.

››› They made a pact two years ago to drink more water, and both of them have a very beloved reusable water that they bring everywhere. They joke that the bottles are passionately in love; they can't possibly keep them apart. It makes them giggle, but for everyone else, it's eye roll on eye roll. But Leia and Lily? The little L babies of the crew? They couldn't care less.

She can’t help but fear that if they can’t find this balance now, what will happen next year? Leia will do whatever she can to keep Lily in her life.

Lily is fine with the way that Mali actually cares for learning and tries not to disturb her in the way she still certainly goofs off with Wallas or Stassi. Not that they have that many classes together, with Mali's packed and advanced schedule. In all other scenarios, however, they're as close as can be. They seem to speak a secret language because they almost never seem to finish a sentence, and there's a constant inside joke being used in place of a real word. Lily can kind of be the devil on Mali's shoulder when it comes to breaking the rules, but each girl is equally quirky and fun. They often lament at how truly lame they are without realizing their antics are quite often viewed as cute and admirable to an outsider.

››› Mali's crush on Wilby isn't going to have them descend into fighting over the same boy. It might be awkward for a second, but it really just presents the opportunity for Mali to be the first person that Lily opens up to about Wilby. And that bout of vulnerable honesty will mean a lot to her, making Mali's secret dj life hurt even more when it comes out. Lily always thought Mali was so loyal and caring. How could she do this? It's an insult to Lily's friendship. Did Mali think she wouldn't support her? It's going to hurt like fucking hell, and it's all Mali's fault.

››› Activism babies!!! Both Lily and Mali care a lot about the environment, which is why they founded Glenville's Green Club. Of course, it helps that being the founder and president of a world-conscious organization looks good on college applications. But both girls genuinely care and love what they do. Every Sunday, the group gets together for an hour to go around town picking up litter. They advocated for recycling bins across the school and multiple town businesses. Malibu and Lily also frequent protests together in the big city. They've been to every annual Woman's March and Black Lives Matter protest. They're already working on their signs for September's Climate Strike event.

Although the Vegas would smile nicely at Ruby, they simply wouldn't know her that well. Michelle and Austin certainly wouldn't appreciate someone from unwed, young parents. And after that one time Lily accidentally said she didn't believe in "that stuff" in front of them . . . Well, let's just say, they're praying for her.

››› Most of their relationship strain stems from three sources: Leia, religion, and cursing. Although Ruby can get annoyed by Lil's antics, she has come around to accept that Lily is just, well, Lily and all the ways she can be unreliable but still lovable. Just by her go-with-the-flow nature, Lily dislikes very few people. While it is true that sometimes she needs a break from Ruby, { 𝒽𝒶𝓃𝑔𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓂𝓊𝒸𝒽 𝒷𝑜𝓊𝓃𝒸𝒾𝓃𝑒𝓈𝓈 𝒾𝓃 𝒶 𝓇𝑜𝑜𝓂 𝒾𝓈 𝑒𝓍𝒽𝒶𝓊𝓈𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 } Lily actually used to dislike her much more intensely. When Leia introduced them freshman year, Lily felt like she was being replaced. Of course she knows better now, but Ruby is a symbol of a lot of the things that Lily herself is not. She doesn't excel in school as much. She has never had a life passion the way that Ruby cares for cheerleading. She's also not nearly as popular.

››› In theory, Lily wants to live by, "Girls supporting girls." And they really are there for each other when it comes to things like hooking up with boys and wearing whatever they want. But Ruby can make it so damn hard on her sometimes. Lily only likes to hang around her at parties when there's alcohol. During the rest of the day, she just doesn't have the energy to deal with Ruby all by herself. At least in a group setting, the pep doesn't get focused solely on her. Then it's fine. Lily has basically accepted that Ruby attaches herself to Leia at school; popular girls have a way of doing that. So Lily crafted her own way of doing things with Wallas and Mali.

››› After freshman year, Leia and Lily had a big heart-to-heart about their situation and friendship. Most of Lily's distrust of Ruby stealing her friend from her were dissipated the following year when they had their own talks about it. Unfortunately, the occasional insecurity still arises in Lily sometimes. She just feels like she is never enough for Ruby. One of the school's top cheerleaders just doesn't have the time to be "chill" with Lily, especially when Lil has a habit of forgetting to show up to things, leaving something behind and turning around, or other irresponsible foolishness. She also never keeps a schedule for her day. Does it LOOK like Ruby has that kind of time on her hands? Not if she wants to look this good and be this talented! COME ON, LILY!

››› And their relationship gets worse when Ruby opens her mouth. Lily is basically the only person who calls Ruby out on her cursing. Ever since Ru dropped the F-bomb in front of Lily's very impressionable three-year-old sister, she has made it her mission to tell Ruby when enough is enough. Sure, some people find the Jesus girl swearing to be amusing, but Lily knows Ruby is a smart girl. She often says something like, "Girlie, you're intelligent enough to use a better word, so do it." She doesn't mean it harshly; she just can't stand the cursing.

››› Sober Lily does her best to avoid it, but drunk Lily can't always hold her tongue. Shut. Up. About. Church. She gets it. You're a preacher's daughter. You want to rebel. You go to Sunday School. Lily can be harsh when she's started to drink, in a way that's not fair. It's the tension from her sober annoyance boiling over. She doesn't care about youth group. She doesn't want to hear about what the church is doing, and if she’s invited or not.

››› Lily can feel how they're drifting apart, and it makes her so nostalgic. When everyone wasn't so busy, when there wasn't so much pressure on them to grow up, they were all closer in the crew. The two always had very different interests; they've never been as close as Lily has been with Wallas and Mali, for example. But she still loves Ruby in her own way. She is kind of sad to see the other girl having so many other and activities, ignoring Lily and moving on to "something better."

Their favorite things to do together end up being simple and maybe boring to an outsider, but neither of them feels the need to fill empty space with mindless chit-chat. They're very comfortable to read and relax together. They love to stay at home all day baking and taking naps and watching old cartoons. Things between them are calm and collected.

However, Kala can find Lily to be a bit jarring when drinking or at parties. Where does this "other Lily" come from? It all seems a bit strange, but she does enjoy Lily's infectious energy. It's just that she doesn't totally understand it either. However, at parties, they can be total opposites when Lily gets going - especially when she drinks.

𝕣𝕖𝕝𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕙𝕚𝕡 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝕗𝕒𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕚𝕖𝕤 › Rasco and Sammy have met a few times around their similar industries, but Rasco isn't really the type to make friends. So Lily and Kala were not destined to be dragged together by their parents like she has been with Ruby. But neither of the girls will know each other's family that well. Lily doesn't bring people home, and the Larsson-Friedlander gang is a complicated mess for Lily to try and make sense. Of course Jolie is a cool, suave teacher that most of Glenville's youth admire. And Lily has shared a laugh with little Andy at a party once or twice. But neither connection is really that serious

››› Long before Lily knew what a Lazy Daisy was, she shared some Kindergarten and First Grade classes with a mysterious girl who had a habit of disappearing. Both being on the quiet side, they didn't exactly forge an unbreakable bond. But their wild imaginations brought them together one day when the weather was bad. Recess was confined to the small space of the classroom, and they both wanted to act out their new story with dolls. Lily, quite begrudgingly, was told she had to share. Playing an elaborate game started them down the path for true friendship.

››› However, as both girls' luck would have it, just as they got close, Kala was packed up and gone again. Hawai'i might as well have been a different planet as far as Lily could comprehend.

››› They still remember those days; they exchange soft and sweet smiles whenever they see each other. They're very polite acquaintances. Maybe if Lily had more Wallas spirit in her veins, she would have wrangled the little loner into the crew already. Didn't Wallas only need to smile at someone, like, three whole times before convincing them to tag along?

››› Still, they've worked together on a smattering of group projects and always share a friendly smile. It helps that Lily doesn't ask Kala about Ruby. She asks her about her day, about the book she's reading, about her classes. They're ripe to be friends again . . . And maybe one day, these easy-going girls will have the push they need to take things to the next level.

››› They also both tend to get annoyed with Ruby. Although Kala's relationship with her is much better than Lily's own, there might come a time when they share in a friendly, light-hearted rant about how all that pep in one person drives them a little crazy.

››› They have similar interests in biking, cooking, reading, and thrift shopping. It does seem like it's only a matter of time before they're reminiscing on lost time and why they didn't do this sooner. Lily is happy to have her start hanging around everyone more consistently until she feels a stab of betrayal. Why would Kala ever treat people that are supposed to be her friends like that?!

››› Lily doesn't know who Open is, other than a friendly face when she buys some groceries. Without the outgoing personality that invites people in, it certainly won't be Lily who brings Open around to the friend group. But once someone else does, she'll certainly be happy to say hello and give her a shot of tequila and twirl at a party.

››› Of course, Lily doesn't exactly like change. That can make her a bit wary of Open at first. Can she really be trusted out of the gate to not ruin anything within the crew? Lily likes things the way they are; her protective nature can drag her down. It might take her a while to give Open the chance she deserves.

››› Given that Lily can be rather outgoing when it comes to hookups, it might be Lily that Open eventually trusts with the Zoe story. She knows she won't judge. It also helps that Lily has been such good friends with Max Howard, an openly bisexual guy. Anytime that someone says a biphobic comment, Lily is the first to speak up against it. That will eventually make Open feel like it's a safe space to be honest.

››› Open will also inspire Lily to connect more with her heritages. Being half-Chinese and half-Mexican means a lot to her; she just feels so distant from them. But Open being proudly Portuguese will give Lily the realization of how much culture really means to her and how badly she wants to get to know those parts of herself.

𝕣𝕖𝕝𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕙𝕚𝕡 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝕗𝕒𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕚𝕖𝕤 › Lily isn't the biggest fan of going over to Stassi's place. She can't put her finger on it. It's just . . . awkward around her family. So she would much rather they go out together and crash at someone else's place. Lily's dad Rasco absolutely adores Stassi, although Marie kind of thinks she's a troublemaker. If only she knew.

››› When she's drunk, Stassi asks Lily about sex. Yikes. She’s certainly not as experienced, and it's a curiosity. The girl that's not typically vulnerable asking advice from the girl that's not really a mom friend. A very interesting dynamic, indeed.
