cropping an item.

Hi everyone, I need some help. I am trying to figure out how to cut out A section of A lighting fixture or any piece of furniture for that matter. Now,I am not talking about tracing the item. I am talking about cutting. I asked @angiem for help regarding this because I see she does it A lot. Although I realize now most of the home designers do it. She told me that you must 1st use PNG items and use the little square box with dots in the create mode to cut whatever part of the lighting you wish. Well, I tried, unsuccessfully of course.I have no idea what I am doing wrong nor did Angie made A brief 40 sec vid show what I am doing. Maybe you all can help me figure out what I am doing wrong. feature=youtu.beP.S. Oddly enough my png items that I clip don't work but when I collected A couple PNG items from different members who just published set and tested them out A few minute ago, they worked Hmmm..... Totally confused!!
Here are two different png item. One cuts well in the create mode and the other doesn't work.At least not for me.

@littlefeather114 Hello. I think you better to upload PNG items, they should be without any background.
I just found now this site http://clipart-library.com/clipart/furniture-png-image.htm - items from this site should work well. Try please type on Google search "PNG furniture", there should be many links of such sites.

@asia-12 Hi,I did use PNG item.I actually have many in my items. On youtube, I clicked on the image info and you can clearly see that the item is indeed PNG. Which only make s it even more confusing.

@littlefeather114 The item in your video doesn't look like a transparent png image.....it could have been saved in png format but with a background. Could you please try another? @eyesondesign0181 That might be what it is.I just went through your collections and saved many items and they worked great for me.I finally was able to cut like I have been wanting to and YESS, your item link worked like A charm. Very confusing because I have many PNG items so I have been saying to myself "why can't I cut an item like everyone else"

@eyesondesign0181 How do you know if an item is A true PNG item? Any way of telling.Because Like I said I have many many PNG items. but none seem to work.

@littlefeather114 when you want to crop your PNG item it should be without any background - even white, it should be transparent.

@asia-12 Understood! @eyesondesign0181 explained that some items are saved in PNG format but are not true PNG so I guess I have to look better for true PNG items and make sure there are no white backgrounds.I am still learning. Even after 5 years on Polyvore I still don't know much about images and such.I am learning slowly but surely.Thank you so so much for the help.I really appreciate it.

@littlefeather114 when searching for transparent png items, I always check them for a transparent background by opening the image in a new browser tab to verify that it's a "true" transparent image. Hope this helps!!!!

@asia-12 OK, gotcha! I think the problem was that many of my items say PNG in the image info but have white in the background so now I know what to look for. Those are great screenshot examples. Thank you very much.

@littlefeather114 yeah, even when I look for PNG items on the Internet it can say that they are PNG but they will have white backgrounds. Usually, I choose the ones that have slight seen checked background (like in the first screenshot)... don't know how to explain. But you can check your items in 'creating set' section by cropping it.

@asia-12 Yes,I get it now. Just have to check for non-white backgrounds.I know its hard to explain over the pc but you have definitely been helpful.I think I got it now.
