Member Uploads: What’s okay to use and what isn't

  • @FunkyJunkyGypsy I echo all these ladies' comments that your very detailed & thorough explanation of these types of scenarios is excellent, as usual!! You always explain things extraordinarily well! If you ever shared with us what you majored in college, I'm sorry I don't recall, but "Communications" or an English teacher wouldn't surprise me 😄
    The only thought I had that I would add was: What if URSTYLE's algorithms, or other portions of their software, get alerted to the words, "VIRUS" or "CAUTION?" I suppose it wouldn't be an issue, since they're just "text" words? Enlighten me, as my tech savviness is a bit limited! And thanks for taking the time to do so, if you do! 👍 🌞

    @funkyjunkygypsy This was a good thread, I agree and will be more careful when using items. I don't believe I've ever been copied, I'm sorry to anyone that it has happened to. I have uploaded a few items I've made myself and said that I made them, but I have no issue with anyone using them so I said "free to use" in the description. So maybe when you upload and item and you ARE ok with people using it, you can put something like "feel free to use" in the title or description.

  • @FunkyJunkyGypsy I would like to interject something based on the feed. Do you think we could ask UrStyle admin to design an algorithm that has a checkbox for “do not use” which blocks others or “open to public”? I have never been able to bring any item into UrStyle simply because my IPad will not cooperate. I just collect items for my use and make it private simply because it takes me time and I feel that others should not benefit from my searches. That’s just me though.😀

  • I create on another platform as making sets on Urstyle is hard due to all the ads popping up where I'm working (might just be my country!) and size issues,
    that is the reason I transport entire completed sets to Urstyle...but now after good advice I have started naming my sets Please do not use: AD....hope this works.
    Thanks all for your support and especially Gypsy Queen.

  • The Story Corner

    Well done, FJ!!! It is a difficult subject. I personally don't care who uses my items... so feel free to raid my collections ! But I totally "get" that sets are a different thing altogether! I never save my sets as items; so shouldn't have that problem ....BUT I see loads of sets uploaded to Pinterest... did you know you can save anyone's sets to Pinterest... they don't have to be your own! It's only a short step from there to the set being brought over here, and the person doing it wouldn't even know whose set it was, because they just say URSTYLE over there! 😒

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @laughingdog Okay, ya got me laughing AGAIN with the "hoot hoot humor" remark! And yes! The owl has two homes and two mommies. Does that make us a couple? 😜

    Glad you got a kick out of the new name for my Set images. I was thinking of using that old warning you would get on videotapes. Remember that? 😘

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @ollie Yup! Also, the contest of controversy was The Sound of Silence and as you can see here: https://urstyle.fashion/shop/25561553
    the name of the Set also had the word Silence in it, making it a very easy find for others.

    And I agree with you. The User was told it was original artwork and asked to remove it and she refused. In reading the back-and-forth on the copy Set, I'm very quite surprised at her reaction. The other User, the one who was apologetic and remorseful, reacted as anyone should -- with respect and consideration.

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @sjlew You kill me, Louise!!! Yes, an alien is needed! I'm going to try that and post the link, just for giggles. Glad the 'hacked' response made ya laugh! YAY! 💓

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @rainheartart Great post! I think everyone should download their Sets "just incase".
    It can be done easily by opening the Set itself and then RIGHT-clicking on the image of the Set. An option OPEN IMAGE IN A NEW TAB will appear. Clicking on that will get you the largest version of the image at the best resolution offered.

    Once the new tab/window is open and only the Set image is being displayed, you want to use that SAVE AS PNG extension I'd told you about. For those who do not have this blessed extension, one needs to use the Chrome Browser to access and use it.

    SAVE AS PNG can be installed to Chrome from this link:
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/save-image-as-png/nkokmeaibnajheohncaamjggkanfbphi?hl=en

    Once installed, when you right-click on your Set Image (the one that is opened in the new window/tab), the option SAVE AS PNG appears. Click on it and you will have a nice clear image file of your Set. This is the best way I've found to back-up your Sets.

    If you do not like the resolution after downloading, there are programs that can change that, including batch programs, but I think, just as you said, that it's the uploading that is what's decreasing the image quality. To save space, I think UrStyle changes the resolution to a lower one during uploads. I have experienced this many times. 😞

    But, at least you'll have a nice back-up on your device to post in other places if you like, or just to keep for yourself! 😀

    @pwhiteaurora
    Wow! I am VERY flattered that you found the explanation easy to understand. YAY!

    You're half-right about college... 😃 I took an elective writing course and the teacher, as a homework assignment, had us write out the instructions for making a paper airplane. When we were back in class, she didn't collect our papers. She simply told us to pass our Instructions to the person sitting behind us (and back row to the front). We were then told to follow the instructions handed to us exactly as written and see what we wind up with. Try it at your next dinner party. Only one person made a correct paper airplane. I'll give ya one guess as to whose instructions they were following. 😉 But that really taught me about being certain to write any kind of how-to or explanation in a clear manner. I'm naturally detail-oriented so that helps too!

    Now, I don't know if UrStyle would even pick up on the 'CAUTION' or 'VIRUS' wording in an upload because they save the image under a new name even though the label shows as what one named it. I'm going to try it and see what happens. I expect it to work considering Sets have been made about the Corona Virus.

    If you click this link, you'll see an image that I uploaded. It's named "FJG" but.... right click on the image itself and choose the option OPEN IN NEW TAB. The address in the browser (URL) changes to numbers and when you go to save a copy of the image by right-clicking on it, it's all numbers. https://urstyle.fashion/shop/14180922

    Oh, and my major.... Psychology. 😉

    @strawberry-milk
    Thank you so much for your input!

    I don't think you have to be more careful so much as if you're not sure (based on the item name) ask the creator. That's what I do and I've been directed to so many collections I would have otherwise missed just by contacting the artist about their graphic.

    Putting "free to use" in the description is great! To assure that people see it, place that in the title are, where you name the graphic. You could even use: Free To Use by strawberry-milk! You go, Girl!!!

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @jfcheney
    I hear ya, Sister! I keep items I collect or create in a Private Collection until I use them. Then, it's okay if someone uses an item I've found/uploaded.

    I think the idea of UrStyle having an option offered in the upload screen (provided you are uploading one item at a time, as you can upload five items at once) that indicates or marks that something is for PUBLIC or PRIVATE use, with the name of the Member who's uploading it, is a great solution to this issue -- but does UrStyle really care enough to do that? I don't think so, but it's worth suggesting!

    Also, once you upload an item, it's automatically in their system which means it can be found in a search even if you've put it in a Private Collection -- It will show up in searches based on what you name the upload. That's the key.

    Do a "product" search for: FunkyJunkyGypsy SET and you will get Polyvore Sets and UrStyle Sets I've uploaded. I think it's pretty evident that they are Sets and not items.

    Now search Ette under products and you will see graphics made by @etteniotna, who creates brilliant images and is happy when people use her work --- but not her Sets! 😃

    I would suggest that if you really want to keep something private, give it a name that isn't commonly searched, perhaps with wording indicating that it's for Private Use. Maybe... Original Artwork - HANDS OFF ??? 😉 Anyone who decides to search for and use graphics with that title is just a jerk!

    What do you think?

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @artsdesireable OOOH! "AD" -- I would never search for ADs. I'm thinking the word SPAM might also be effective!
    And you are most welcome, Dear-heart! ❣

  • @funkyjunkygypsy Good idea - let's hope this all can be made to work by admin.

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @auntiehelen
    Yes, items are one thing and Sets are quite another! If you do not save your Sets, what will you do if UrStyle shuts down and a new (faster!) site allows you to upload them? 😨

    Sets uploaded to Pinterest can be done by anyone, because your Set is actually an image file. There is an browser extension for most browsers that accomplishes this. It's called the Pinterest PIN IT button and you can click on that button (which will be found in your browser's upper bar once you install it and may also hover over the image itself) whenever you are on a webpage where you want to save an image to Pinterest. I use Chrome and this is the button you need to install just by clicking on the install command at this page: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pinterest-save-button/gpdjojdkbbmdfjfahjcgigfpmkopogic

    It works similar to the Clipper. Give it a try!

    Do you also clip items from Pinterest? That's fun too!

    As for the fact that people just clip Sets and do not give them a proper name, there's not much that can be done about that --- unless you want to place text under each Set you make asking anyone who PINS your Set to name it after you. Not worth it. 😕 Many Users here place their signature as a graphic at the bottom of their Sets, sort of like an artist signing a painting. That's your best best. Created on Urstyle by @auntiehelen ?

    People who save other people's Sets have the ability to rename their pins, but I don't think they'd bother even if you asked them to. However, once "pinned", the Set image should link back to the original page it was pinned from (your Set) when clicked on. 😁

  • The Story Corner

    @funkyjunkygypsy Well, I suppose I must be in a minority (of one !!!??) here, but I just enjoy creating the sets.... I really don't want to keep them forever! Having said that I agree I would be pi**ed if someone took one and called it their own ! 😒

  • Twisted Gypsies

    @auntiehelen You may not be in the minority. I may simply be sentiMENTAL. 😜

  • All Things Wedding

    @funkyjunkygypsy . Yeah, no one messes with the Fonz, love it!

  • Polyfam

    @FunkyJunkyGypsy and @auntiehelen -
    Someone used one of my uploaded Polyvore sets in a contest and it was clearly marked"Girlyideas Polyvore Steampunk Art". Of course she added her touch to it. https://urstyle.fashion/shop/20101753 It was a mistake on her part. I was a surprised, not angry. It LOOKS exactly like what it is - a full doll set. She asked if I wanted her to remove it and I sand no. It could have been from either platform uploaded. Here is the secondary problem we ALL have of which we can't ever control. Tons of our Polyvore sets were saved on Pinterest by us, friends or pretty much anyone who liked it. They can be uploaded into URStyle by anyone. I know we get weirdly attached to our artwork but is it really ours anymore? We are using other peoples art in a cut and paste situation. This is supposed to be fun with friends, right? Not a battle and these things are not always intentional. Not EVERYONE experienced Polyvore. Britt - @girlinthebigbox had this happen early on - someone used one of her PV sets as part of a set thinking it was a "Cluster" to be used. Just know, even if your set is clearly marked, one - someone may not have experienced Polyvore or two - someone uploaded your set they found on Pinterest. xoxox Ladies and Happy Saint Patrick's Day☘☘☘☘ Tracy @Girlyideas
