A fairly long list of suggestions

  • I posted this to the respective forum, but I thought I would also make it into a separate post because I would love for other people to add their own ideas, agree, disagree, etc. to my rather obnoxious list.

Maybe if they see more of us requesting a more specific feature, they will try more urgently to create it? So if you'd like, please respond with what you would like to see first! It would be great if an ongoing conversation could inspire better ideas than the basic ones I listed and then lead to change on the platform.

I know this site can make you want to pull out your hair with the glitches and errors, but I really believe that overall it's much better than what we used to have. The updates, the amazing admin, how quickly they tried to create this new home from thin air . . . it deserves recognition!

    These are things I know that have probably been mentioned in the suggestions forum or other places before, and I also know it can take time to implement them. But I just wanted to add more to the conversation of ways UrStyle can improve. {And hopefully hearing more voices echo something can help in understanding how more people would like to see a feature exist / change / etc.?}

    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐂𝐎𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆

••• It is unclear to me if this is a new permanent change or a glitch. I think it is the latter, considering the buttons for these functions still exist. We are currently unable to make anything left / center / right / justifed with text alignment, and the text header function also no longer works.
••• On rare occasions, coding to change the color of a text has also become visible instead of, you know, changing the color haha.
••• A lot of "advanced" coding has been members figuring it out for themselves. This isn't necessarily problematic, but I think it would be helpful to have a resource for people to know what this site supports. Then I think it is more inclusive than some of us just getting lucky or spending time researching?
••• Putting a = below a line of text is supposed to enlarge it. However, if it is colored, then it actually glitches and becomes smaller than regular text.
••• If a form of punctuation is next to text, you cannot use bold/italic text on that without having a space between the letter and the symbol. Sometimes I use 𝓹𝓻𝓮𝓽𝓽𝔂 𝓽𝓮𝔁𝓽, and it can look silly to have a nice bold, italic font next to a regular question mark or exclamation point, 𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽? Well, if I want it to say "𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽 ? " then I have to have a space between the word and actually, in this case, the quotation mark too.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐔𝐌𝐒, 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐒, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐄𝐓 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒

••• It would be 1000000 times more helpful if we could edit a set description without having to edit the entire set, considering the items in a set drastically shift every time you try to do so. If you don't have 20 minutes to fix your creation, then it's like you can't even go fix a small typo or add something. On poly, we were able to hover our mouse over the description and click to edit it. Then, once you clicked outside the text area, it would save the new changes. I'm not saying you need to do that same thing; just sharing an idea.
••• I don't think the current form of "coding buttons" is a very inclusive solution to those with visual impairments, and it can be a bit daunting to try and use different functions with such small clickable ranges. Zooming in also doesn't really mitigate any problems with this site. In fact, if you have a dialogue box open anywhere {the set editor, editing a forum response, and even the clipper} then zooming in only makes it incredibly problematic and harder to use.
••• There is a very inconsistent system when it comes to tagging people in groups, forums, blogs, etc. and them actually being notified of their tags. The same goes for setting a topic to watching. I don't want to have to create a group chat or a new topic every time I want a few people to see something. We tag people or subscribe to watching a topic for a reason! It would be nice to have that more consistently work!

    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑

••• Could there possibly be a system where we get a notification / note / etc. of specific items that the clipper ends up rejecting and not clipping? It's hard to know the difference of being patient and waiting for my items to arrive later versus those that get lost in the void.
••• I know there are plenty of issues with speed so I won't touch on these. I know you guys are trying your best to fix it. Thank you.

    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐎𝐑

••• Some basic keyboard functions would also be an amazing step in being more inclusive to users and just making things easier for everyone.
    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ctrl / com + z = undo
    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ctrl / com + v = duplicate
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀tab = switch through which item you have selected
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀arrow keys = move an item one pixel
    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀etc.
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀ {I also think you could do shift and press the Bring Forward / Send Backward keys to have something go all the way to the front of the back, but maybe I'm crazy? That would also be nice though tbh.}
••• Private sets were private for a while, but it appears the glitch is back where they show up on the Get Inspired page and can be seen by everyone.
••• Instead of having to cut out something when cropping it every time, it would be amazing to have the option to save the crop outline for future use.
••• You have minimized the shift on items when you publish something for the first time. However, I'm sure we would love for this setting to be applied when we push the undo button or when we go back to edit something again. The number of items that drastically shift can be disheartening when creating. I feel like I can never save a draft and exit the page because then I'll spend thirty minutes on just fixing things again, which can be very annoying.
••• Can we please have the ability to open more than collection? Like some kind of tab system? It's a bit exhausting to have to go to square one on our collections to see something new. It would also be nice to access liked collections, in the way we used to be able to on the other site.

    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒

••• Because there is no difference between organizing items and creating collections, I feel like there is a shift away from aesthetic collections and the like. I think many, many members would like to have a collection editor that is completely separate from the system we use to organize our items. I used to spend hours on making creative collections the way we make sets, and now that's completely gone. You can only control the order an item is in a collection if you manually add it in one at a time. And then you can never move it around. That makes it all a bit exhausting to even try to deal with.
••• Also, if collections are private, I don't think they should show up on the community page for collections or the search bar. What is the point of knowing something exists if trying to click on it just leads to "undefined collection"?

    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐏𝐒

••• I understand that group titles become their URLs, so they're important. However, since we are able to change our usernames, it would be so nice to have the same option for groups. Especially if you do something like say WIP or have a typo. It seems like a waste to create an entirely new group just because of that.
••• There seems to be an odd system of deleting groups. It simultaneously exists and doesn't? For example, I would really like to leave this group, but then I can't because it no longer exists? So then why is it on my profile? I guess I just don't understand. It would be nice to have a delete button in the admin system.
••• If someone invites you to a group and you just ignore it, you should ideally not get a notification again and again. I understand that they might be inviting me again because they forgot they invited me, but I don't want the notification more than once if I'm already ignoring it.
    ••• Can we submit sets to a group instead of having every set we have every published show up in every group? It would make things more relevant across the board. {That being said, I would only want this feature once we have a page where we can see sets from people we follow.}

    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐌𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒

••• Can there be less of a system of creating new threads with users? Maybe it's nice to have a fresh start in some situations, and the group chat option is wonderful. But when you end up with three blank messages with someone because of a lag in the site, it gets old fast. And it's basically impossible to find something specific in your archives when you have 20 chats with one person. I think the default setting should actually be to use the same thread, and there should be a special button to start a new one.
••• More importantly, the 1000 character limit is so short and so limiting! It would be great to have it extended!

    ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋

••• Of course, it is no suggestion list without asking for the page where we can finally see sets from the people we follow. I actually LOVE the Get Inspired page and how it has everyone. I discover amazing new members without it. However, could there be a tab on the top of that to switch between followers and everyone? I feel like I miss so much work by people I'm really trying to see.

  • The Story Corner

Great ideas!!! I especially miss the ability to have more than one collection available to use at the same time..... tabs across the top as we had in Polyvore.....it is so frustrating to go into a collection to find a specific item that you KNOW you have somewhere, but if you choose the wrong collection to check, you have to go right back to the first collection.... O.K. I'm a forgetful old woman, and should remember where I put stuff!! On Poly I could open all the collections I thought would be useful for a set, and they would sit there in their tabs ready for me..... HEAVEN !!!!!

  • @lecoupdefoudre yes I agree to the above.

    Few more suggestions :

    1. When you type a comment or blog, be able to scroll the text up and down. Help for longer posts so you can see what you have typed.

    2. The type/font bit on sets is dodgy. It says you have to turn mobile screen round to type. Although phone is actually not on landscape when using it.

3.follow people seems pointless. Only thing it aids you to do is get notifications when they blog or make community post. Not give you that person's sets to view.

  • Twisted Gypsies

Very well-thought out and well-communicated suggestions! 😀 I would like to add/re-suggest (I posted a Suggestion List in another thread and cannot find it, LOL!) additional suggestions to this list, as well as add support to some of yours.

    Forum Posts

    1. I guess I'll start with following one's Forum Posts.
How do we do this, if at all? How do I find threads I've created and/or participated in?

    2. Yes! The 1000 character limit is limiting! It should be extended.

    3. When I'm about to submit a new post or a response to someone else's and someone Messages me while I'm typing, I must first reply to them before I can hit the Submit button. This happens too often not to be overlooked.

    Item Alignment

    1. I have also found great frustration with the automatic alignment "feature" and have refrained from updating/editing Sets and/or their Descriptions, or adding stories to older sets, simply because of the item alignment issue.

    2. Same thing happens when a Set is saved as a Draft. Reworking a Set that has been saved so you can further work on it is unnecessary and time-consuming. Not all of us have a great deal of time to enjoy this website. I would like my time here to be as productive as possible.

    Item Adjustment
If I, for example, use an overlay in a Set, I would like the ability to adjust it's opacity. Polyvore had a slider bar that allowed us to do this and it made a world of difference. Sometimes, you just want a hint of something and to get that effect here, you have to layer other elements on top of and/or behind it. The Opacity Bar would be so appreciated.

    Collections
I would love the ability to:

    1. re-arrange items within a Collection.
Like you, @lecoupdefoudre, I also used to spend a great deal of time organizing the items in my Polyvore Collections to make them not only aesthetically pleasing, but arranged in a way one might use those items, which was a matter of function that kept me organized.

    2. re-arrange collections as they appear on the full Collection page.

    3. leave one collection when working in the Create Set window and wind up just "outside" of that collection instead of back at the beginning of all of them. The Tabs suggestion is a great idea.

    4. use items in my Liked Collections. If the Item Organizer can access those collections, and this is meant so we can USE the items, then shouldn't the Set Creator also have this function?

    5. have a Notification sent to artists when their Sets are featured in a Collection. I collect Sets by type for inspiration and enjoyment. I would like those whose sets are featured in those collections to know about it!

    Groups
I would LOVE to welcome new members to our group, Twisted Gypsies. A Moderator Notification when new members join a Group would be so appreciated!

    😜

I'm not sure if I entirely understand what you mean. I do not think there is some kind of "database" for us to see all of the information we have followed, just as there is no place to see sets from people we follow.

However, whether as a forum on the community page or in a group, you can click on the individual page and see this at the bottom of the first post:

    0_1568741068053_test.png

If you change it to watching, the site says you will then receive notifications if there is a new response on the forum. However, that almost never works. But maybe one day it will haha

  • ༺ PAPARAZZI ༻

TELL EM HUNNY!!! lol i think these are great suggestions. i especially liked your bit on inclusion as not all members are comfortable learning code on their own/using it like others. this site must be inclusive above all!

and also viewing the sets of the people you follow on the home page is a HUGE one for me. i feel like it’s one of the biggest reasons i leave urstyle for months at a time because i can’t find the connection to the people i want unless i go through my following list and search one by one to see if my fave users have created a new set/blog/etc. it’s a little alienating when the home page doesn’t feature someone you know or at least an option to switch to viewing sets by people you follow.

this would drastically change the group’s functions too - specific sets for specific groups, what a concept! otherwise it’s just another blog function with notifications that don’t work lol ¯_(ツ)_/¯

i would also like to add a couple suggestions of my own:

    • liking items in the set editor: i go through pages and pages and sometimes i see an item i like but don’t want to use for the particular set i’m making! there should be a hover option so that i can like the item and use it at a later time 🙂

    • a back button on mobile: i’ll look at people’s profiles and go thru sets and collections but i have no idea to go back to their profile!! there’s no general “back” option if i want to return to a page i just visited

  • I like the suggestion of "cutting items" Once you cut them you shouldn't have to do it every single time you use the item.

  • URSTYLE Team

Thank you for very valuable bunch of suggestions. I will update our TODO list considering this topic and all ideas!

  • Thank you for using your platform and wondrous skills for this - love that it got @admin 's attention directly already and that many people have contributed. So I don't want to be repetitive but I wanted to quote Jo's old post since it reminded me of all the basic set description changes that we could use. And of course, all the great things @urstyle has already done for us to make this site better than Poly was - knowing a lot of our suggestions weren't even on that site xx

    "SET DESCRIPTIONS:
    • Allow for paragraph spaces
    • Allow for standard text editor uses (italics, bold, underline, etc.)
    • Allow for emojis on desktop (create a button to input)
    • Tag users in descriptions! When this was first used in PV, we used it to dedicate sets to our dear friends & followers :`)
    • Allow for links to be inserted in a word/phrase (would make it look cleaner)
    • Allow for sets to show the date it was published"

    • Personalized notifications for specific users would be cool and a temp fix to not having a feed for users we follow
    • Option to properly delete not only groups like you said but user profiles!
    • Editing contests is highly requested for group changes as well 🙂

  • High-Quality Aesthetic

@jupitervi said in A fairly long list of suggestions:

Isn't there one? You can hover over the item and a little rectangle with the item title and a heart shape will pop up—at least, that's what it does for me. You can like it from there. Sometimes, though, I just click on the item to add it to my set, like it from there, then delete it XD.

  • @admin

    Thank you all so much☺

  • { MMN }

Excellent suggestions that I'd like to second. And props for mentioning the difficulties for visually impaired users, it's so often something that gets overlooked.

  • Twisted Gypsies

@admin I added something about Opacity Adjustment to my list above, rather than adding ideas as they come, so as to keep it organized for you. I LOVE that you are considering our needs. Make your Users happy and they will do all the work for you, as far as featuring your advertisers' products. 😘

  • @funkyjunkygypsy

If you go to the Shapes category, you can already change the opacity of the items in there

  • Twisted Gypsies

@lecoupdefoudre ALL items one is using, or just the shapes offered?

  • URSTYLE Team

  • Twisted Gypsies

@admin OUTSTANDING!!! You are THE BEST, Damien! Thanks for paying attention to our requests, which will certainly lead to more use and more Users, helping you with your advertisers, whoever they may be! 😉
    👍 👏 👍

  • @admin

I'm SPEECHLESS! You guys are AMAZING!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
