@forebodinq although I disagree, I respect your opinion. Thank you for chiming in.

@sjlew I really love URSTYLE and that’s why I suggested the alternatives. Ads are very 2000s. There are other pleasant ways to monetize a professional website. Thank you for chiming in. Cheers!

@jesuisunlapin
This is a very alienating suggestion!! So many members would never be able to afford something like that. There is already an elitism divide in the fashion and creative world. Shutting members out of “additional” features because they can’t afford it would be a truly terrible disservice to the way they have tried to brand themselves as a new home for Polyvorians...
Are they getting money from the sites if someone accessed the link through here and then buys it? Are they partnering with item advertising as much as random side advertising? I’m not in marketing or development at all, but it seems like there are 100 routes they could take before they require us to pay to use this site.

@lecoupdefoudre that’s my suggestion, you can offer other ones. I’m sure a U$1,99 monthly fee is not “alienating“ or “elitist”. Many apps and news outlets charge for full access to their services. That’s absolutely NORMAL.
-
@jesuisunlapin the suggestion on the app being buyable's decent but its a one time payment. Not everyone can or is able to pay to use a site but making it to where the sites unusable unless you pay would make it even harder. not to mention those who use say creative wouldnt be able to use the site at all to clip items.
-
@familyrppartner they need help. It seems they are not generating enough revenue to cover all the expenses. If they are not able to do that, being able to clip items is the least of our worries.
-
Polyvore shut down because it wasn’t a profitable business model anymore. There were millions of members, using a lot of server space and not buying anything. Affiliate links and sponsored ads weren’t enough to cover all of their (very high) expenses. Repeating the same patterns won’t lead to different results. That’s my main concern. If us members can’t afford a very reasonable monthly fee, how we will help to maintain the site or how we expect URSTYLE team will get paid? Any suggestions?
-
@jesuisunlapin i think making the site to where it only caters to an audience who can afford to use it is going to cut out alot of the users poly's descision gained them
-
Thank you for all suggestions! It’s important for us to keep the website design esthetic without trash ads. We just need your patience to test many options and find some way to cover the costs

@jesuisunlapin What you say is true sweetie, it must be very expensive, and many places do charge. Many haven't the funds, but skip that starbucks coffee, don't see that over priced movie, skip at makeup item, it is a matter of deciding how you want to spend your money on. All of us pay an internet fee to run our computers anyway, we all manage that, a few bucks a month is worth it too, to keep a site going. If you own a computer or phones, i-pads you are not destitute in the first place. I can see both sides too.

I do believe there are alternatives to a mandatory subscription fee. We have seen Wikipedia request donations and have success. I know that Archive of Our Own also does something similar and has opportunities for people to donate their time as well - for things such as ensuring tags are used correctly by members and dealing with abuse of the website.
I think, as has been previously suggested, it would be good to have one-time payments for certain perks eg. perhaps paying to enter URSTYLE-led (not group-led) contests, maybe even URSTYLE merchandise.
I think it would be worth the time and effort of testing other methods before resorting to a membership fee which would likely result in a loss of members - especially considering that not everything is always working smoothly yet, and I suspect people would be unhappy to pay for something that is not always working properly.
I understand that it could be annoying, but URSTYLE is still a very new website and I think we need to make these allowances, at least for now. -
@sjlew ditto!

@studiopatco Of course the bank can block incomprehensible transactions to questionable resources and it is obvious. There's nothing strange about it. I have been telling everyone for a long time that you should have your own trust if you are a big business so that you don't get caught like you did with this project. Specialists from https://astra-trust.com/ helped me to create my own offshore, so now I am not worried about the safety of my own capital. And this is very important.
