Prohibited Content Question and Guideline Request

  • Twisted Gypsies

Yesterday, there was a thread regarding offensive content, a thread that has been, understandably, deleted. I do not wish to resurrect that thread. I would like to hear from the UrStyle Powers That Be regarding Prohibited Content, as I’m unable to find any information on this website specifying what UrStyle does not permit, as far as uploading images go.

Unless/until UrStyle prohibits certain imagery, every User has the right to upload images of any kind of subject matter they want, no matter how offensive others may find those images to be. This is not good. 😟

UrStyle needs to institute a policy on what kind of images may, and may not, be uploaded to their website. (If they have one, can somebody point me in the right direction?!?) Perhaps they can also add the option to make one’s Uploaded Items private so that followers won’t happen upon them accidentally?

Until that’s addressed, privately reporting offensive images (not Users) to the administrators seems to be the fairest and most sensible approach. Reporting a fellow User to Urstyle Members in an open forum is prejudicial and damaging. We each have different motivations for collecting the images we do. For instance, an image might be uploaded simply for the purpose of using a portion of it. I collect some pretty weird stuff, and I wouldn’t appreciate being called out publically for an image I've uploaded and hadn't even used. Yet, with no protocol offered by UrStyle for addressing situations like this, I can understand all of the points-of-views expressed.

So, I’m asking for Content Guidelines and for help regarding this matter from the UrStyle Administrators.

And speaking of the Administrators, is it just me, or do they seem to be MIA lately? 🕵️‍♀️

  • Well, I wouldn't say completely MIA LOL. That's all I gots to say about that.

  • I wish I didn't have to agree in this case, but I wish I had never seen that image. I never WOULD have if it hadn't been reported publicly and I hadn't been curious (and that's on me). As for the user who uploaded it, no judgment on my part. And for the person who reported it, no judgment on my part.

That being said, at this point in time it seems there must be a better way to deal with these kinds of issues, so well said @FunkyJunkyGypsy and you're right, where is @admin? Is this going to be another one of those "let's make a set about it" kind of deals? It would be very, very helpful to have some Content Guidelines, and for that matter, some Conduct Guidelines. (I'll bet they didn't count on this when they set all of this up.... 🙂 )

I agree with @FunkyJunkyGypsy as for as there needing to be guidelines or else we should be allowed to upload what we want privately. I got on to having several notifications on the subject she is referring to and when I went to read them I was told I didn't have authorization to be on that page, so I don't even know how everyone's opinions became to effect the situation. Personally, if you want to keep political subject matter off of here then you should keep ALL political subject matter off of here which I'm sure all of us would agree with me about. We are subject to offensive politcal sets and have not brought them up, however I am sure the 1st one I make will be. You can't have it one way, you either have free speech or you don't. You keep this site about fashion and art and let people who want to make their political sets done in private and not post them on this site. #admin Hello!

I would like some feedback on this matter too, there is a fine line off freedom of..., also poly was based in the U.S. what are the different quide lines in Europe compare to the guide lines in U.S. or other countries? This could be confusing trying to sort it all out. No matter who we are, where we are from, or what we do we will offend someone, not everyone is going to like us, or approve of what we do, unless we harm someone directly, best to say NOTHING and move on, you don't like viewing something, move on. Simple as that. The world has much bigger problems too worry about that being petty and catty drama queens to one another. Time for everyone to grow up and at least be civil to one another. When person have complained to me about my content, I told this person, go make a formal complaint and they will decide what to do with me, their site, their judgment, NOT the person who complained.

  • Design Styles Defined

@funkyjunkygypsy Once again, I completely agree with you. You always nail it. Content & Community guidelines + rules are essential for user-generated websites / social networks.

URSTYLE is based in the EU, so many principals and legislations will be different from Polyvore. Anyway, establishing ground rules foster a culture of truthfulness and transparency.

Matters of personal conflict need to be addressed so they don't get in the way of the harmony of the community. It’s really necessary to affirm collective responsibility.

It can also be productive to review the guidelines from time to time, creating new ones as solutions to unanticipated problems that will possibly arise.

    Cheers, Patricia
