When Falene was 14, she was engrossed in sweeping the floor when she accidentally elbowed a young, married visiting diplomat, Ade Heitmann. She grudgingly apologized, and something about her gutsy attitude and sweet face charmed Ade. Despite her servitude, he began to seek her out. He treated her like a little sister: teasing her, giving her small gifts, nicknaming her Fay. Falene became enamored with Ade—perhaps even obsessively so—and the special treatment wholly, utterly, pit-of-her-soul convinced Falene that he was in love with her. One day, things reached an inevitable crescendo and she kissed him. He pulled away immediately, furiously admonished her, and stormed away. Falene, in turn, decompensated. She faked a shockingly intimate letter from another handmaid, then snuck into Ade’s guest chambers while he was at a meeting, leaving the letter on his bed. As she expected, his wife found it. This resulted in both the other handmaid being fired, and the highly publicized divorce of Ade and his wife. Three lives were ruined. Falene’s was not one of them.

[ Personality ] :

Falene’s mother always described her as a “strange little girl.” She was a sullen, watchful child, and grew into a sullen, watchful teenager. She doesn’t like to speak without good reason; she would much rather observe and assess everyone around her. Because she comes across as cold and indifferent, people are often surprised when her temper rears its head—she is quick to anger, takes offense easily, and is often defensive. Although her anger is more typically freezing than scorching, it’s still rather shocking. After an outburst, Falene may seem to calm down quickly, but in reality, she never lets go of a grudge. She is prone to seeking revenge for revenge’s sake, rather than for any sense of justice. Being underestimated or condescended especially embitters her, which is why she resents her position as a handmaid. Perhaps the only aspect of her position which she enjoys is that it essentially renders her invisible. This is useful in her never-ending hunt for knowledge. But if she had it her way, she wouldn’t be invisible...she would be omniscient. She hates not understanding or being on the outside of something. When she is on the outside looking in, she cannot bear that things are out of her hands. Falene would go to virtually any length for any shred of control. It’s why her obsession with Ade Heitmann terrified her. It came on inexplicably, unexpectedly, and almost immediately, and she could not restrain it. Perhaps her deepest fear is falling into that uncontrollable mania once more.

[ Bio ] :

Falene’s mother, Flora Chapell, began working in the castle as a handmaid in her late teens. A few years later, she fell in love with another servant, a man named Merak. Flora became pregnant near the sudden end of their romance. But she didn’t know it, and when Merak decided to leave the castle in an attempt to find better work, he left behind the mother of his child—whom he never knew existed. Flora was heartbroken when Merak left, especially when she learned of her pregnancy and realized that the child would be fatherless. So Falene came to be. She grew up working beside her mother, and grimly assumed she would be a handmaid in this castle forever. After all, it was all she had ever known.

She has been having a secret relationship with the prince of [TBA country]. However, the secret no one knows is that a few months ago she realized she was pregnant, but lost the baby a few days later. She has been dealing with the entire backlash from that alone which has made her distant from her friends – and she hasn’t spoken to the prince since.

[ Personality ] :
Ophelia is the kind of person everyone generally likes, but no one knows much about other than her closest friends – of which she only has three. She is quiet, but holds a desire to have power. This is not an entirely selfish desire, although that is part of it. She is at heart a humanitarian and would like to be in a position to create change for the better where everyone is on more equal footing.

[ Bio ] :
Ophelia is a part of the Brousseau family. Her parents currently hold the title of Duke and Duchess. Their relationship with the crown is strained because of quietly held political beliefs, but their family name has been enough to keep them in good grace so far.

Location/Size: Pobřeží is surrounded on three sides by water in a climate that experiences long, but mild winters. It is about the size and population of Finland.

Food: Simple and clean, but delicious - mostly plant-based. Think lots of fresh herbs and whole spices, with rice, legumes, vegetables, fruits, and fresh breads.

[ Secret No Other Character Knows About: ] When she was 15 years old she had a secret affair with her servant's son Maxime, one day they went up to the mountains and they were discovered by a stable boy who threatened to tell her father. Clara knew if her father found out he would have Maxime hanged therefore she tried to reason with the stable boy but he was determined to tell her mother and Maxime tried to stop him but they got into a fight. Clara tried to stop the fight but the stable boy wouldn't get off Maxime and without thinking Clara pushed the stable boy and he slipped and fell off the cliff. Maxime and Clara vowed never to tell and a soul and they also ended their affair..for now.

[ Personality ] : To many strangers she may seem the type of girl that is conceited and self absorbed but that's very far from the truth, she actually wishes those were her traits but she has a strange disorder that is very rare in Mercius called Guinaity,it causes you to feel guilty and naive at all times. She's a pushover ,gullible at times but most importantly she 's fierce and daring and after many sessions of therapy at the clinic, she has over won some of the nasty personality traits she was born with. She also a very clever out of box thinking person, she takes matters into her own hands just like the leader her teacher said she is because she hides her leaderships skill away. She is stubborn, haughty, care less, free spirited and dim witted at times but she's also a secret romantic that she will never admit and feels bad for her defenseless father who works so hard and gets no respect from his wife. She doesn't get along with her control freak mother but by law her mother is not allowed to stick her perfect nose in her business.

[ Bio ] : Clara is the eldest daughter/heir to the throne and second child of Lisa Lotte Verhoeven and Ludwig Rembrandt Verhoeven, she has a older brother Mathias Ludwig Verhoeven but he will never be the heir to the throne because he is male and in Mercius only women can have a claim to the throne. Clara hates the way her mother treats her father but even though her mother does not respect her father, they love each other very much and Clara always wanted this type of love and she never thought she would find untill she met a servant named Maxime'Max', their affair started when she was only 15 and they would always meet at secrets spots far away from the castle grounds but one day they were discovered and a tragedy followed. After this tragic event Clara ended her affair and followed her parents rules but since she came to Saint Ivy's her old bad streak is slowly making an appearance and her heart aches for Max.

Kateryna is betrothed to a prince from a nearby kingdom.
Her mother was having an affair with a nobleman whilst her father was sick. Kateryna doesn't know about it.

[ Personality ] : Determined, soft yet so so strong, clever, kind to those deserving, considerate, knows right from wrong (most of the time), speaks loud and clearly, demands your attention (in a more positive way though), clear headed, passionate.

[ Bio ] :
Kateryna was born to the king and queen of the kingdom of Asteerya. She is the oldest child of three and heir to the Asteeryan throne. Kateryna has a twin brother, Roman and a younger sister, Alena (14). She missed the love of her parents when she was younger but her father always tried to read her a story before she went to bed. Her mother on the other hand was always too busy trying on new dresses, organizing parties and upholding her status quo.
When her father died of his illness at the tender age of 45, her mother became queen regent. Her mother wanted to make sure that Kateryna was fit to be queen and sent her to Saint Ivy's.

Language: Asteeryian (similar to French). Royals and nobels are also well versed in Italian.

Best known for: It's riches; Asteerya is an incredibly wealthy kingdom because of their endless supply of gold and red rubies. Hence the kingdoms colors are red and gold. Asteerya is also known for it's exquisite food, haute couture and it's flora (flowers in all colors and sizes imaginable, waterfalls, sunny sky's almost all year)

Size: The size of modern day Monaco

Population: 15.000

Colors: Red and Gold.

Values: Riches, power, unity and loyalty.

Fashion style: Think reign x haute couture. Royals and nobels always wear something red or gold (even if it's just jewelry).

Religion: The people from Asteerya believe in two gods. Myra; Goddess of riches and Yrien; God of flora and fauna. They have monuments for them and a temple. When a royal dies the most important people of the kingdom gather at the temple and pray to the gods.
