FYI: Understanding Copyright on Tubes
-
I just wanted to clarify that the Tubes we find online, whether on a personal website or a Browser may have the logo and/or signature of the Graphic Designer that created the Tube. For those who are just learning, Tubes are art, pictures and photos that have been edited in some kind of graphic software that gives them that fade quality or some other kind of editing quality. Now, just because someone "tubed" these items doesn't mean they "own" them. Unless they created the art or the photo themselves and then tubed it, they do not own the copyright to those tubes. Tubing is actually not a difficult thing to do and I'm sure a lot of graphic artists do it because they enjoy it, but some may not be aware that editing items is not considered Intellectual Copyright Property. I haven't personally run in to an issue like this, but was noticing that since Polyvore shut down, I've been seeing more logos and signatures on Tubes. It's just that there is a difference between Graphic 'Design' and Graphic 'Artwork'. Designs are taken from pieces either created by the Designer/Artist or found and designed in graphic software with editing tools to do this. Of course we don't know how the Designer acquired their Items and so there may be some risk of Copyright Infringement involved, but it's a personal choice as to whether we take that risk. It's just something to be aware of for our Hunter-Gatherers.

Interesting and thank you for the heads up!

@rainheartart I know that on Pinterest they remove an item if the original owner objects; so I think we can safely assume they are all right to use if they haven't been removed !!! Heads in sand, folks !!!!... keep your head in the sand !!!!!
