Amsterdam international airport: where's the best place to grab a bite to eat?

  • My flight has a layover in Schiphol, and I’ll have to wait almost eleven hours between flights. I’m too lazy to leave the airport, and I don’t want to deal with visa hassles just for a couple of hours in the city. I doubt I’ll be able to sleep in my seat, so I plan to spend this time exploring the local dining scene. I don’t want to waste my time on run-of-the-mill American fast food like McDonald’s or Starbucks. I’d like to find a decent place with good food: a nice steak, a decent burger, or some local Dutch specialties. At the same time, I don’t want to blow my entire savings there—prices at airports are usually sky-high, especially when converted to dollars.

  • I’ve heard there’s a big food court there with tons of restaurants to suit every taste. Guys, can you recommend a tried-and-true spot inside the terminal where I can have a hearty, reasonably priced lunch with decent food? Ideally, it should have a place to sit with my laptop and charge my devices while I eat. And one more question: are these decent restaurants open at night, or does everything close after midnight and only the vending machines remain?

  • Hi! Oh, 11 hours is such a long time! There are actually some really good food choices. There is a really nice public space called Schiphol Plaza, and there are a lot of nice places inside the terminal after security as well. I personally would recommend going to Schiphol Plaza, they have perfect snacks and soups and big portions and you won't be leaving hungry. You can also find information about the airport here https://amsterdam-ams-international-airport.com/en . Most of the normal places tend to close at 2 a.m. but there are definitely a couple of 24hour cafes that are open, with sandwiches and coffee. Are you on your own or traveling with someone for work?
