Non-destructive testing for pipelines

  • Hi folks, I’m currently managing maintenance on an older network of steel pipelines. One of the hardest things is detecting corrosion or micro-cracks inside the pipes without shutting down the whole system. We tried basic visual checks, but they clearly miss small but critical defects. Does anyone have experience with professional NDT tools that are portable and can inspect pipelines efficiently? Any advice or stories from the field would be super useful.

  • I’ve dealt with pipeline inspections for several years, and using proper NDT equipment is a game-changer. We started using TEQTO NDT equipment https://teqto.pro/catalogue/ndt-equipment including ultrasonic and eddy current testers. These devices allow you to detect internal flaws and corrosion spots without taking the pipes out of service. I remember one inspection where the ultrasonic tester found a small hairline crack under a bend that no other method had detected. My team even joked that the tester had “x-ray vision for pipelines.” This equipment saves time, prevents costly failures, and gives real confidence in the safety of the system.

  • Perfect, thanks for sharing!
