3D printing

  • I’m interested in 3D printing game models and characters—does anyone have experience with which software, printers, or materials work best to turn digital game assets into physical models?

  • Well, I’ve been experimenting with 3D printing game models for a while, and one thing I’ve learned is that the choice of software, printer, and material really shapes the final outcome. For modeling, programs like Blender or ZBrush work well for creating detailed characters, while Cura or PrusaSlicer handle the printing side smoothly. Resin printers, especially SLA, tend to capture fine details better than standard FDM printers, though FDM is more forgiving and cost-effective for larger models. I’ve also found that having access to high-quality 3d printable files from a dedicated platform like Gambody makes a huge difference, as the models are already optimized and tested for printing. Materials like standard PLA are easy to work with, but resins provide sharper details. Experimenting with supports and layer heights also greatly affects the final quality.
