Yoko - Being more than a muse

  • Yoko was married with Masahisa Fukase between 1964 -1976. Like any relationship, their marriage had ups and downs. Currently, there are several reports about marital problems, abuse and violence. Yoko's stories talk about several moments of depression, and above all, about how she felt that her husband was only with her to have a "muse". Feeling like an object, Yoko ends the marriage and decides to continue without having any owner.

It is impossible not to find an infinite number of feelings in Masahisa Fukase's work. Love, admiration, contemplation, self-reflection...
Currently there are discussions about an obsession with the wife's image, how this probably affected the relationship (something that is actually proven from Yoko's few reports)

"Men have always been in love with our bodies, they love us, place us at the center of their art and literature, but only to play it and sing it alone, establishing its canons, defining its hierarchies. We are stimuli: we awaken pleasure, love, great works. At best they call us muses, complete with a possessive adjective: my muse." - Ferrante

To this day, even with all the achievements, women fight for their own definitions, acceptance and self-respect and the external and internal struggle of seeing themselves and not just through what men say.
