The reason why Liza Soberano is Chloe's FC
-
Hey guys!
Liza Soberano (a.k.a the Chloe FC, a Filipino-American actress) just released her vlog that explains the reason why she moved to Los Angeles to expand her career. For most of career since the early 2010s, she was being typecasted (only working on romance, comedy and drama) and working mostly with Enrique Gil (her onscreen partner and eventually her boyfriend). But as 2022 enters, Liza decides to change labels and move to Los Angeles to expand her portfolio as an artist.
Of course the video elicit polarizing comments: many applauded Liza's bravery to decide for herself, some called her "ungrateful" ('utang na loob' or 'debt of gratitude' is an enduring yet toxic Filipino virtue) and some criticized the Filipino entertainment industry when it comes to hindering actors (especially in the teens and 20s age group) to grow by having a loveteam system (basically, you will be paired with another and have projects together while sells to the audience the idea that the sparks flew between the two of you) which caused a long term effect to their career and wellbeing.
If you want to take a deep dive into the history of Philippine Loveteam Culture (in which Liza was part of before), I will share articles for further reading since we will only talk about Liza and Chloe in this post:

After watching her entire vlog and reading tweets talking about Liza's decision, there is a quote that stuck in my mind:
"I felt like I was being told to be just a flower for so long" - Liza Soberano, 2023
The reason why Liza Soberano is Chloe's FC not only because of their timeless beauty but also their journey as their own person. Both Liza and Chloe were famous for their looks and took time to find their own voice in the industry. Also while juggling their own careers with their love lives: Liza with Enrique and Chloe with Hendery (WayV member). Among Star Beam members, Chloe was regarded as the "main visual" (Yujia & Jeonah were also visuals) but it doesn't stop her desire to grow more. Through the years, she is honing her skills just to prove that she is more than the team's visual. Instead of accepting acting offers first like most visuals do, she tried to choreograph some of Star Beam's songs, learn how to rap, songwriting, composing and eventually producing (she is the producer of their latest album, "Lethal Kiss", and its title track, "My World", as an ode to Star Beam's semi-normal love life). Unlike Liza's situation, MBF Entertainment (Star Beam's agency) encourages Chloe to be a self-producing idol. Currently, Chloe is filming "Useless Lies" (alongside Kim Sohyun and Hwang Minhyun) which will mark her first drama. Chloe may be a workaholic and a perfectionist but she founds a support system in Hendery (has the similar unfortunate situation with Liza thanks to SM Entertainment's history of xenophobia and the current internal conflicts but that's for another day) and SeuBim members.
I hope you watch Liza's vlog in full so you will get the context and understand her side instead of spliced videos. We will never know what really happened but what we can do is to support in her new chapter of her career
