inherited hanmer after her mother's recent passing and is hoping that reviving the old place will somehow help her to heal, and more importantly, help her feel close to her departed mother (who spent the better part of her childhood living in the hotel with her parents)
uni dropout out of necessity (former lit major). when her mother became ill, she had to care for her for a year- and she's decided not to go back to school and focus on the hotel instead
she just wants to focus on something else besides death for a week
with the gathering, she's trying her hardest to be excited about it and seeing all her old friends, but her head's in such a strange and dark place atm
and she knows it will be such an exhaustive undertaking in the long-run- especially after her friends return home- that could take years of sucking money before it makes any
the money for the fix-up is the other part of her inheritance but the sum isn't enormous
her ex was a married man whom she has recently broken things off with- being a mistress (hates the word but it's true) was already weighing on her so much- and besides he was a bastard
[he does keep calling though]
anyway, she's going to give her all to the hotel for now, cook some large meals for her friends and tune everything else out . . . which is probably not "healthy" but it's healthier than shutting herself in a room and staring at a wall all day . . . which is what she's really tempted to do
does enjoy cooking/baking
considered a culinary career for a while before settling on being an english teacher like her mother
