𝐇𝐀𝐈𝐑: Matthieu's hair is very dark brown and loosely slicked back most of the time. Because it is so often pushed back, most people don't notice it would hit just below his cheekbone's if he did let it hang. It's not pin straight, but it's also not curly.

𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒: Matthieu's eyes are dark green, and have often been described as dead looking. Whether or not this is an attractive feature is debatable.

𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓: 6'6''

𝐁𝐔𝐈𝐋𝐃: Matty's build is thin and lithe, what muscle he does have is highlighted by his frame being so thin otherwise. If he were to take off his shirt, there would be evidence of a strong figure. Even at his heaviest, he's still quite thin for his height.

𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐍: Matthieu, although usually extremely pale, gets tan if he's careful to apply sunblock. In terms of scars, he has a scar from an appendectomy at twenty-one, three circular burn scars in the hairline above his ear, and another seventeen identical scars on his ribs. He has four scars in between his shoulder blades.

𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐘 𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒: Matty briefly had an ear piercing in his left ear, but took it out when he was twenty. Matty also had his right nipple pierced when he was sixteen and his bellybutton pierced when he was eighteen. The only one he has left is his nipple piercing. Otherwise, no body modifications.

𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒: His teeth have been described as 'unnaturally perfect'. Other than that, his height is what people see first.

𝐒𝐓𝐘𝐋𝐄: Matty is not entirely sure he has a personal style, having either dressed just like his father (sweater vests, button downs, smart slacks) or just like his friend groups in college (low rise cargos, crop tops, sneakers) or just like a vacationer (linen pants, flowy shirt, cross necklace) his entire life. There are some absolutely essential pieces to his outfits that are the same across the board though. Matthieu prefers dark and rich jewel tones, and complimentary earth tones. He cannot go anywhere without his headphones and sunglasses.

𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐒: Matthieu wears reading glasses at home, and uses over the top headphones at home as well. When more minimalist headphones came out, he became too embarrassed to use his over the top ones 24/7. Airpods are more socially acceptable.

𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖: Described by peers and coworkers as studious and hard working, often stuck in his own personal world of thoughts and feelings. His face and eyes are borderline flat, with little to no visible emotions. Impulsive to a fault and with a smart mouth he could never get a tight handle on, when he does open his mouth, whatever comes out of it is usually quite upsetting. Despite all of this, he can be described as a social chameleon in large enough situations. It is easiest for him to blend in with large groups of people, and his act of a sociable, kind and trustworthy individual is ironclad. In short, he puts the confidence in conman.

𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐒: His personal space. Basic privacy, and routine. Cleaning, cooking, and baking as long as he gets to do it alone. Magic, and card tricks. Beaches. Chess. Trains. Winning.
𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐒: Authority figures. Rural areas. Chicago. Piano. Losing.

𝐇𝐎𝐁𝐁𝐈𝐄𝐒: Travel, cooking and card tricks is what he invests most of his time in.
𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐒: Matthieu's memory and flat affect make him a great, even perfect liar. He is good with a knife, and if he could stand to have other people in the kitchen, he'd be a great sous chef. He's impeccable with a deck of cards.

𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐑𝐊𝐒: For Matty, he's tried to cover up his quirks with seemingly mundane things. He wears sunglasses inside (not because he thinks he's cool) but because florescent lights are his greatest enemy. He wears headphones 24/7 with no music playing because the noise of everyone else gives him headaches and makes him feel terribly overwhelmed. His food sensitivities are overshadowed by the fact that he's a pescatarian, and sometimes even vegan.
𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒: As much as Matthieu would rather die than admit that he’s deathly afraid of his father, he is, and over compromises by being evil to every man that reminds him of his father.

𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐌𝐒: When not wearing sunglasses, Matty holds his face and often hides behinds his fingers to think. This isn't cheeky or supposed to be fun, it's just the way he is.
𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄𝐋𝐘 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃: Matthieu has homes in Monaco, Argentina, France, and Las Vegas. All of varying levels of decadence.

𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖:
There is a warning sign braided into his ribs, and it’s brutal, noir it’s in monstrosity, where no one can tell the difference between blood or ink. He was once an angel, or at least that's what he’ll tell you. There is tact in his scathing presence, which is all thin, razor sharp lines that cut you if you look for too long. His smile is like chewed glass, which is just as glittering as it is bloody. There is something at the back of your mind that looks into his blank eyes and screams to get away, but the urge to curl into the cavern of his empty chest and steal the last of his warmth is too strong. It’s any easy release, in his presence, even if he leaves you haunted and needy. A ghost lies in bed next to you, and even when panic fills your head and heart, you do not move. It’s easy to stay, he makes it easy, and you love him, even if he kills you.

You realize that he is the devil.

(But even the devil was once an angel.)

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐒:
Matthieu C. Houdini was born on October 25th, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois. The pregnancy was a normal one, despite the fact that Matthieu was a huge baby, at 10 pounds, 10 ounces and 13 inches. He was his parents first child, and they went on to have another baby boy when Matthieu was four.

Matthieu was a notable child from the age of three onward. At four years the child spoke both French and English, played chess with his father. He was diagnosed with hyperlexia and Autism Spectrum disorder shortly after his third birthday.

By twelve, Matthieu was graduating high school, and he did two years at the University of Chicago at home before he slowly transitioned to living mostly in an on campus apartment with other juniors.

After a series of hazing incidents where Matthieu was the victim, a rushed senior year semester and quick graduation, Matthieu emerged with an applied mathematics PhD, a raging gambling and stimulant addiction, and a disdain for the University of Chicago. So, he did a 'gap year' while taking classes at Cambridge Law, and obtained a degree in contract law by the time he was sixteen.

At eighteen, he met his future wife through what was his current boyfriend. Sarah Muller was a University of Amsterdam graduate who helped run her parents hostel outside of Berlin. The romance could be described as whirlwind, as they got married at nineteen and moved in together at 20, choosing a luxurious penthouse in the heart of Las Vegas.

Matthieu was a good husband, but not everybody is built for living with someone who is an addict, (as he had kicked the stimulants problem) Matthieu played chicken with their finances at any opportunity, and the anxiety was too much for her. They split when they were twenty-two, Matthieu bought her a house and a car and stuck her in Switzerland. He'd like to think they maintained friendship, but some part of him says they didn't.

Shortly after the divorce, he bought a home in Monaco and chooses to spend his days residing beachside and scamming tourists out of their life savings. He's not retired! Matthieu is just a passive criminal. He only does bad things when the best opportunities present themselves.

Estranged from his family, the only woman who has ever loved him, as well as being purposefully neglectful of his talents has led Matthieu to a quiet, lonely life where nothing ever really happens.

He should've known it was too good to be true.

⌘ Matty genuinely enjoyed caffeinated Four Loko and was upset when they took the caffeine out of it.
⌘ Matthieu has more than one hundred decks of cards. He always carries at least two on his person at all times.
⌘ From the ages of 14-16, Matthieu had a car stealing phase.
⌘ After graduating from high school at 12, and college at fifteen, Matthieu spent a gap year doing Interrail travel around Europe.
⌘ Matty plays six instruments but is most gifted and most practiced in piano.
⌘ Matthieu can practice law in Britain, but chooses to not do that.
⌘ Matty is emotionally attached to his pair of Ray-Bans sunglasses and might have a meltdown should you take them from him.
⌘ Has been a chronic insomniac since the age of ten, when he entered into high school.
⌘ Matthieu’s favorite book is A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.
⌘ Matthieu was a party boy from the ages of 13-23.
