𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖:
coming soon!𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐒:
The Bernadottes began their dynasty with a fizzle, which snowballed into an avanlache. They were lowly merchants and later mercenaries whose fate was bought, over time, by way of heroism and pounds of gold. Over time, they grew into a noble bloodline, highly recognized in the French social scene, but quickly forgotten. However, the Bernadottes always remained popular and moneyed from their stint as nobility, manufacturing a career of mass capitalistic gains. This is not where Wednesday’s story begins, but rather her father’s.
Pierre Bernadotte IV was not someone Wednesday thought her divorced mother would pick, but alas, seven year olds are not omniscient. Pierre and Liza were a strange match to everyone else, too, but over time it made sense. Liza, a free-spirit record label owner and producer and resultant millionaire, met Pierre at a release party for one of her musicians. They drank Cabernet together, laughed the evening away, and got married in Vegas only a few months later. This last detail was quietly forgotten in favor of the white, virginal wedding that Pierre’s mother preferred to recall.
Pierre adopted Wednesday not long after their marriage, officially making him Dad. Wednesday has since rescinded this title, preferring to call him Uncle P or simply Mr. Bernadotte, but for the first ten or so years of their father-daughter relationship, he was her parent. This only changed after her mother’s subsequent divorce and then death. Somehow, the blame for the first half lied upon Pierre and the second was Wednesday’s.
If she were to apply some sense of logic to this deduction, it would be because Pierre is a stuck-up asshole who wanted to move to France and force Liza to hand over the reins of Red Nail Records to someone else. The reasoning as to why her death was her fault was due to the fact that Wednesday was arguing with her mother when she suffered a seizure and passed suddenly. The truthful, realistic reasoning was unrelated to Wednesday, obviously. Her mother has suffered an overdose, as Wednesday would learn two years later at fifteen. While this made the young teen angry, insolent even, it didn’t change the guilt held deep within the thirteen year old that still lived in her heart.
The years after her mother’s passing were equally filled with anger, but mostly targeted towards her father. He’d taken to avoiding the situation entirely, unsure how to cope with the death of a woman who didn’t want him. A woman he still loved. When it came to child-rearing, he was ill-equipped, unsure if he should give into Wednesday’s desires or fight them. Clip her wings or the bands that bound them?
Overtime, as he saw his only daughter divulge into activities unbecoming of a Bernadotte, his mother convinced him to reel her in. Despite his hours away on business in France to manage one of their many vacation properties, he made time to see Wednesday kept out of trouble. Sort of. He could never quell her wild side, the type that associated with people he deemed unsavory. By the time university came about, he was shocked to even see that her grades were worthy of Columbia. Where had he missed, in all the brazen protesting, dyed hair, and risqué paintings of ‘best friends,’ that his daughter actually cared about her education?
Thus, he supported her dreams. At first. Over the months, his opinion has changed once more. A tide that never stops repeating itself. At least this time, he has only asked that Wednesday keep her college activities on that side of the city, and to keep up a good front for when her grandmother comes in town. Most of all, he warns her to never let him hear of her comings and goings, unless they’re for a Nobel prize or an award in business. As he told Wednesday, “I love you, all of you, but sometimes the world shouldn’t see every bit of you, myself included.”
