Plagiarism

A Dictionary definition:
'Plagiarism is theft of another person's creations or ideas.'
What is this site's position on this?
I need some clarification on this please. -
@artsdesireable I think the Urstyle is against it but they're not doing anything about it either. When I was robbed nobody helped or was there for me. It is what it is. You either choose to drag them down for what they did or to simply block them so they can't steal your ideas anymore.

Hi Dear, there are two Golden Rules on Moodboard Sites like this: 1. You DO NOT COPY anyone else's Set and 2. You DO NOT, under any circumstances, sell those Sets for profit anywhere else. I believe this is under the Terms and Conditions of URStyle the way it was on Polyvore. These are pretty much a given, but there are some who have broken those rules. If someone has done this to you, they need to be reported. I had someone do this to me on Polyvore and I contacted them directly and they apologized and took everything that was mine down.
Now, that being said, because this is social media site that has download capability to gather items anywhere online, technically, these items are not our artwork, so we can't sell our Sets either without running the risk of violating copyright laws. Creative Intellectual Copyright (in other words, our "ideas") are lawfully copyrighted the minute we create them, but on the Internet, it's difficult to prove. To have a truly tangible, lawful copyright, we need to register our work at the Congressional Library and that's really expensive.
The best way I've found to safeguard my Sets online is to put my company name somewhere in the Set. I usually put it at the bottom right or left, or even hide it in an area of the Set no one would think to look. Putting a Watermark on them can be helpful as well. This way, wherever we share our Sets, people know it's an Intellectual copyright.
It's difficult to control having our Sets being used by others once they leave the URStyle platform. Anybody with even the most rudimentary art software can download and edit them, so it's always a risk and a choice we make when we post our Sets outside of URStyle, but anyone stealing our Sets directly on URStyle is a violation of the group rules. I hope this helps.

@rainheartart
Thanks for that info - I always put my artsdesireable name on all my sets......the person who blatantly used it, has not apologised or taken it down.
I think I will just go back to Fashmates, which is mostly fashion but have never had any thing stolen or used from that site. -
@artsdesireable be sorry to see you go over this. It's your choice, but the another option is exposing him/her to the group if URStyle won't take any action.

@artsdesireable @Rainheartart @acciohermione Hi Dear, Sorry I have to interject here. You did not explain that this is occurring when you upload a set created by you as an item. Your situation I believe is a tricky one as people are not recreating your sets they are using items you have uploaded. Personally, I believe there is etiquette to follow here and I personally would never use a item which is a created set but some people just see them as items. Unfortunately on Urstyle when an item is uploaded it is free for all unless etiquette is followed. I do not know the answer to this one and believe we can only appeal to ettiquette or "golden rules"

The two people who 'stole' my sets and used them as their own, were told that they had been created by me, never apologised when given this explanation, and one still refuses to delete her set. I
t's disrespectful and I would not call them creative. To be creative you have to start from scratch and build up a set with many images....well that's what I feel.
Thank you for your excellent negotiation skills on my behalf. -
@artsdesireable Two people?!? Dear God, the audacity!! People like that don't have the right to be here!!
-
@artsdesireable what a shame darling. I adore your artwork and would hate to see you go, but I totally get the feeling of violation. Interestingly, while this happened a lot to me on PV, it’s never happened here (at least not that I know of).
In one instance that I was made aware of that another member posted on here, public shaming fixed the issue. The person who was copied posted their set and the copier’s set for everyone to see and the copier deleted their account and was never heard from again (at least not under the same name). I’m not suggesting you do that, but just to let you know that from the responses, it was clear that copying would not be tolerated by URStyle members.
I was getting quite complacent until your post. Several members post the “Do Not Copy” pact on their profile page like we did on PV, but I never have here, because I didn’t think it was as huge a problem. I guess as the site gets more popular, stupid stuff like this from minimally talented people pimping for “likes” is inevitable.

That's how I handled a Copycat of mine and it worked like a charm. I kept making Sets for them to copy -- UGLY Sets with their User Name on them. It stopped her -- AND it was fun. Have a look starting with the Set called:
Home, Fashion, AND Doll Set for the Creatively Challenged

@funkyjunkygypsy
yup. Sometimes when they go low, we have to hunt them down and get dirty!
-
@funkyjunkygypsy HAHA! Now that's positive problem solving!
-
@fassionista Amen, Sister! It's not even stooping to their level. It's mockery, which is quite shame-inducing. Sad it has to be used at all, but it IS effective! 🤪
-
@rainheartart Yes! And again: FUN!!!
-
@funkyjunkygypsy totally!
-
@fassionista Unfortunately, there's always some kind of unethical element on social media sites. This is the 3rd time I've heard of Set theft on URStyle in the last 3 years. I experienced it with Polyvore once and none here. It's always good to safeguard your Sets the best way you know how.
-
@funkyjunkygypsy -looked at them and them are brilliant.
May have to resort to your revenge tactics! -
@artsdesireable Please do!!! Or allow me! Jut message me the User name. I love this goofy stuff! xox
-
@artsdesireable I started a new thread on this topic because I suspect a misunderstanding has occurred.
