Aged fifteen and bored out of her mind in a hotel suite in St Petersburg, Yvaine picked up a laptop and wrote a novel about the boarding school set she was right then missing with a visceral FOMO. Inspired partly by her idols Capote and Kerouac, partly by the old Mary Jane, what began as a petulant reckoning with her school mates and their nihilistic, yet party-fuelled lifestyle was passed on to her mother's old pal, now a dean at Bellevoir College, and from there to Julian Hepstall, a literary agent for Random House. Frenetic bidding wars ensued for "The Fury Season", already hailed as a modern masterpiece, a sort of Less Than Zero meets Breakfast At Tiffany's for the millenial-and-younger generations. And though wild rumours ensued about who of her friends inspired the callously decadent characters of her novel, they remained exactly that thanks to clever legal maneuvres by Yvaine's family and agent.
Yvaine cultivates her public persona meticulously, controlling the image of her novel and herself so tightly the media are calling her a recluse. Indeed, with a year-long spot on the bestseller lists and a film adaptation in the making (not to mention her family money), Yvaine never really needs to write another word -- and she hasn't published anything after The Fury Season, claiming to have taken time out for her creative writing MBA at Bellevoir-- but Yvaine is fulled by a desperate, ruthless desire to prove herself as a serious literary great of high brow calibre -- a place not easily attained for a young woman...

If asked, Yvaine would describe her life as 'boring', waving away with a blasé gesture a ceaseless parade of hotel suites owned by her parents, Riviera summers, yachting, French vineyards, tennis, boarding schools, and new England winters. Although she accepts high society life serenely and as a matter of course, she participates largely out of curiosity-- any and all may once serve as fodder for her voracious creative mind. Having always cultivated her own style -- somwhere between vintage whimsy and ironic avant-garde, Yvaine longs to remake an uninspired, soulless, and chaotic world, to make it sing (and sometimes, make it dance for her). As demonstrated in her wunderkind debut, published when she was only sixteen and off at boarding school, she'll stop at nothing to establish herself as literary genius; friendships and family bonds were strained and broken when she recast her dearest in fictional guise, and more than one lawsuit had to be hushed up. But notoriety, as all the best writers show, is only a stepping-stone to the literary hall of fame, and although some speculate she'll never write another word, Yvaine has spent her time at Bellevoir collecting material and observation for her next, her big one, her magnum opus. There will be academic elitism, there will be aesthetic vigour, there will be high society gossip, and there will be blood...
