    ๐๐Ž๐–๐„๐‘๐’:
Night Empowerment โœฆ When the opaque shades are pulled down upon the sun, Lola becomes stronger, faster, and clearer-headed. It's as though a great weight is lifted from her shoulders, and she can finally breath deeply once more.
Darkness Generation โœฆ Of Lola's powers, her ability to generate darkness is the most pervasive and dangerous of her qualities. She can shoot bolts of darkness from her hands, covering others in the process.
Camouflage โœฆ An off-shoot of the above. Lolo can wrap herself in a shawl of shadows, disguising herself from those around.

    ๐’๐“๐‘๐„๐๐†๐“๐‡๐’:
Restraint โœฆ Despite her overflowing personality, Lolo is quite good at holding back when necessary. It comes as a surprise to many, especially because she isnโ€™t known to hold back in many other ways. However, when it comes to her abilities, restraint is key. Her shadows have caused irreparable harm, and Lola plans to never allow her abilities to hurt innocent people again.
Strategy โœฆ Lola is the type to think at least five steps ahead of her opponent. She prefers to have a strategy with every interaction, especially ones involving demons, monsters, and potential death. Logic is her best friend, and she knows how best to utilize her strange gifts to her advantage. Most of the time.
    ๐–๐„๐€๐Š๐๐„๐’๐’๐„๐’:
Trepidation โœฆ With restraint comes the obvious draw back - cowardice and a lack of action at the right times. Lola has missed the mark on multiple occasions, though mostly due to her own inability to act. She holds back, read to run away at the drop of a hat. The potential for others to get hurt stops her in her tracks.
Non-Team Player โœฆ No one would ever call Lolo a team player. An only child, she never developed the skills necessary to work with others. She tends to get easily frustrated by team work, and much of her strategizing doesnโ€™t work when she has to rely on others. Trust is not her main game, and it ultimately hurts her.
Light โœฆ Direct sunlight certainly doesn't cause her to burst into flames like a vampire, but she does suffer from an overabundance of light. Her powers aren't as strong, as she feeds from the darkness. Depending on her overall condition, she might not be able to conjure a shadow at all.

    ๐†๐ˆ๐…๐“:
The Cloak โœฆ Gifted to her by her mother, the cloak is a long shawl of soft blue, almost black, velvet. When wrapped around someone, it turns them in shadows. It isn't very useful in daylight, but at night, it allows Lola to sneak around unnoticed without having to use her powers. It is also quite useful for hiding objects as just placing the shawl over an object and placing it in a dark corner will allow it to hide practically forever.
Frost-Stijarna โœฆ A grand silver sword with an ornate handle. It appeared in front of Lola after her mother visited her during her vision. Of course, it was a bit difficult trying to hide a three and a half foot long sword and scabbard. It is Lola's most prized possession, and at Mythos, she has it on her at every chance she can. The handle often peaks out from behind a knock-off purse, and its star-shaped sapphire in the hilt shines in the sun. It is known, however, to sparkle most and almost glow in the shadows of night.

    ๐Ž๐•๐„๐‘๐•๐ˆ๐„๐–:

Hailing from Long Island, Lola Ignacio Llorando is the bubbily and charismatic product of the Norse goddess of shadows and nighttime and a local weather man. Her last name is an unfortunate irony, especially considering her father was born into the Llorando name before he even considered meteorology (many pesky white Americans do not recall the difference of crying and raining from their middle school Spanish, leading to some uncomfortable jokes). Alejandro Llorando, left by his Norse lover with a baby girl, kept to himself for the first six years of Lolaโ€™s life. Meeting his first wife and Loloโ€™s step mother, Isla Llueve (yes, even further irony), Alejo quickly built a proud familial name. He may not be famous, but amongst his Long Islanders heโ€™s practically a celebrity. So is Lola. Living her life in lavish upper middle class and feigning even further echelon with her fake designer items, sheโ€™s managed to create a small circle of friends and to shirk many of her responsibilities as a student, as always. However, much of that changed when she got into a car accident with her father. Spiraling from her 18th year on, itโ€™s a miracle that Lola has survived, along with Alejo. While Isla may not look at her the same, and she cannot look her father in the eye, Lola tries to make the best of her newfound destiny, even if sheโ€™s petrified by the darkness within her.

TW // Drug addiction, mentions of mental illness and suicidal ideation, mentions of blood, and car accident

    ๐…๐ˆ๐๐„๐‘ ๐ƒ๐„๐“๐€๐ˆ๐‹๐’:
โ €โ € Alejandro Llorando and Nรณtt met in the summer of 1999 with baby Lola being conceived only a few months afterwards. New York City was the perfect backdrop for a summer-fling-turned-long-term-relationship between an aspiring meteorologist attending his final year at NYU and a goddess of the shadows.

โ €โ € Nรณtt went by an alias, of course, and she was known as Naeva to her lover, and she presented herself as an exchange student from Scandinavia. Their accents played off each other well, with her piping European tone and his harsher American vowels. The couple was often teased, and this point was touted as a reason why they had to marry out of university.

โ €โ € As is obvious, this did not happen. By September 1st, 2000, Naeva was no more. She never existed in the eyes of New York, even if she left an unrelenting mark on Alejo and his... child. Freshly graduated and interning at a local news station, he was out of his element with a baby girl.

โ €โ € Thankfully, help came in an unexpected fashion. Swearing he'd never heal from Naeva's betrayal, Alejo was surprised to find himself head over heels in love with Isla Llueve, a Brooklyn native who was visiting family in Long Island when they met at a local grocery store. She smiled at little Lola, waving to her, before she noticed Alejo. "Oh! You're from the news!" She noted when she saw him. He was shocked, considering he hadn't been recognized before, much less by someone who wasn't a local. He was slowly moving through the ranks, and he was often subbing for the current weather man who seemed to be unable to keep himself healthy.

โ €โ € Quickly, the pair married, and Isla became Lola's mom. Her only mom, really. In fact, she was convinced she was her birth mother, and no one ever corrected her on this fact. It was never discussed, really, and Alejandro would cite this down the line when inevitably she found discover the reality. In his defense, not even him knew the full truth.

โ €โ € Thus, Lola grew up normal. More than normal, really. She was afforded many luxuries her friends would never know, and her father allowed her a certain notoriety amongst her peers. Lolo was no celebrity, but her father's charisma, which she inherited, made the family staples in their community.

โ €โ € Truthfully, Lola could've lived in Long Island for the rest of her life, visiting Manhattan two times a week and exploring the knockoffs available across the entire city. When she turned 17, she spent entire weekends exploring the area not far from her hometown, partying and attending various house parties. Becoming known as the party-monger, Lola developed a reputation for being an airhead, a girl with no substance, and with thoughts of little significance.

โ €โ € Of course, this changed when her father sent her to rehab when he discovered MDMA hidden amongst her tampons {While Lola is an incredibly conniving young woman, she was a bit short-sighted in not assuming her brains came from her father}. While she insisted the small amount wasn't enough to justify the reaction, deep down she knew. The molly wasn't the only thing she had hidden in her belongings, and it certainly wasn't the only thing she had developed a dependency on. Ironically, she had never touched weed, but she was no stranger to alcohol. Even after years of sobriety, she still dreams of a vodka and cranberry. On those days, she attends an AA or NA meeting, even if all she can do is got to one over Zoom or in a chatroom.

โ €โ € Upon leaving rehab, Lola was sent to a psychiatrist, Dr. Tuttle. Thankfully, after copious amounts of trying different things, resulting in varying degrees of psychosis, emotional instability, inability to operate heavy machinery, and the dreaded increase in depression and suicidal thoughts, Lola was put on Wellbutrin for her unresponsive depression, which only seemed to worsen after her eighteenth birthday.

โ €โ € A fact Lola kept from Dr. Tuttle was that she almost died with her father the week after she became an adult. Rather, she almost killed her father. The morning after her birthday, she had received her vision from her mother explaining her gifts. It was unfortunate that they didn't begin to manifest until a little less than a week later. It was dark, pitch black, and she was driving her father back home after spending the day with his parents in celebration of her birthday. He brought up college, asking her if she got into his alma mater. Sheepishly, she told him the truth after months of hiding it: she hadn't applied to any colleges, except one.

โ €โ € Of course, this was a bold-faced lie. Lolo hadn't applied to any colleges at all. It was only with the new knowledge about Mythos Academy that she thought to frame it as a college experience, the kind her father wanted her to have so desperately. It wasn't that she wasn't smart enough; Lola simply couldn't handle the stress. High school almost killed her, dragging her down to the lowest point on earth. While she had made great strides with her mental health senior year, she almost failed two of her classes. It's by some miracle she graduated. However, Alejo didn't understand. Like most, he saw her daughter as a spoiled brat who spent too much time watching The Simple Life as a child.

โ €โ € For the first time ever, Alejandro bursted into anger. Lola tried to keep her eyes on the road, even as he yelled at her about her 'lazy mentality' and the consequences of her generation's lack of ambition. She tried to butt in, explain and emphasize that she would receive a college education without any cost to him, but he wouldn't listen. Berating her, Alejo screamed, "After all the money I spent on that facility to get you clean, you can't even repay me by doing what I asked." His next words hurt most of all.

โ €โ € "Once an addict, always an addict, isn't that what they say?"

โ €โ € In a ten minute conversation, years of swallowed resentment and unprocessed stress and anxiety over his precocious daughter spewed out in toxic strains. Lola teared up at his words. She ignored him, however, and continued to look at the road, even as she felt her heart pound and stomach slosh. Her body vibrated. That's when she noticed she couldn't see the headlights anymore.

โ €โ € Seconds after, they passed through an intersection where a car in the opposite direction slammed into the back of the sedan, causing the car to spiral and for Lola to lose control. The car spun before crushing itself around a light pole. Lola passed out at the wheel, her head bleeding around the leather and staining it. Thankfully, Alejo would rid himself of the car.

โ €โ € While Lola spent a week in the hospital due to third degree burns on her arms and a wound on the left side of her forehead, her father spent almost three days in the ICU. Due to the fact that Lolo passed out and the person who hit their car had run away, it took twenty minutes before the police were called by a passerby. Alejo suffered so much blood loss that he had to receive three transfusions, and his legs had to be amputated due to the way the car crushed around his legs.

โ €โ € The following six months passed by almost insufferably. It wasn't long after the accident she was finally prescribed a medication that worked, but it didn't stop the guilt. It just made her functional at a time when she needed to be. Her father had to heal before he could be fitted for his legs and receive physical therapy. Because of the nature of his injuries, Isla needed help in the coming months, especially when she was also trying to get Lola graduated and ready for college.

โ €โ € Lola's father didn't attend her graduation. She isn't even sure if he even watched the video her stepmom took of her walking across the stage. Most days, he wouldn't even look at her. Isla at least did her the kindness of saving her reproach until after her father was in PT and she was off at Mythos for her freshman year.

โ €โ € While her parents assumed she almost killed herself and her father with her carelessness, it was quite the opposite. In the midst of her anger and overwhelming shame, Lola utilized her shadow-casting, shrouded the vehicle in a thick, hazy darkness not even she could see past. The reason the accident happened was because the other car couldn't even see the sedan on the lightless two-lane blacktop. However, none of that mattered, not even to Lola. She had caused tragedy with her own carelessness, and it seemed her terrible decisions stood not only to hurt her but those she loved most.

โ €โ € In the midst of the chaos, Lola never revealed the truth she discovered. Her father doesn't even known she knows Isla isn't her birth mother. Even on the occasions she accidentally slips and calls her 'step-mom,' the pair don't notice. They're far too preoccupied with their new life and the subsequent book deal her father got following the accident. Neither want to discuss Lola's mistake, and it's best for her to keep to herself. Not even Lola, whose skin is as tough as nails, can handle the disapproving looks over dinners with an alarming amount of wine passed amongst Alejo and Isla.

โ €โ € In a way, Mythos has become her safe haven. Lola Llorando has become an adult in her time spent at the school, and she is petrified to see the end of her education. Where does she go from there? Her original plans involved shirking adult responsibilities for as long as possible, but given how she cannot get through a dinner with her dad, mooching off of him doesn't seem like much of an option. Far too scared of her own powers, Lola can't even see herself using her gifts to good use. To her, Lolo is simply an extra in everyone else's movie. Perhaps the useless, bubbly side character comedic relief. Definitely not someone worthy of the spotlight. Quite the opposite, in fact.
