Saeyoon & Jaehyun are already close even before they became idols (both of them are popular in their own right). Saeyoon has to go through hell just to get Jaehyun (but Jaehyun silently wants to protect her 🥺). She was called "crazy" & "sore loser" for having Rosé as a potential love rival (but became her friend in the end)
Jaehyun was torn between protecting his fame (now NCT is more famous than they were before) & chasing his happiness while Saeyoon was torn between sticking with him and letting him go. Much to her surprise, their feelings are mutual for a long time (if they were ordinary adults, they would be already married with kids). Saeyoon has to see Jaehyun being the subject of confessions while Jaehyun has to see Saeyoon being a subject of trolling (even in school) so he loves her more than she thinks. Now, Jaehyun tries his best to make her happy everyday.
People thought that Jaehyun might make Saeyoon cry again thanks to Ryuna (in Dear.M). Ryuna already ended delulus when she real talked Jaehyun to realize his feelings for Saeyoon & treated him like a sibling/friend/teammate offcam. But they never expect the fourth character.... KUN
So Jaehyun (& occasionally Saeyoon) became the cupid for Kun & Ryuna instead of pretending to be in love with Ryuna for the sake of fans
