꞊ Died while giving birth. She was only sixteen and, no, she wasn't married. She was an out-of-control wild child before she Turned. In fact, her father was the one who had her killed. To this day, she has no idea how vampire blood was in her system. She's just grateful it was
꞊ Has kind of made a point to torment Mystic Falls with varying frequency as revenge but secretly feels like there are answers to what happened to her somewhere here
꞊ Goes to school because starting younger means she can stay longer in one place. Plus, teenage boys are so fun to mess with
꞊ Still incredibly childish, even after all this time, and can't take anything seriously except a chugging contest. Looking as young as she does is both a blessing and a curse

~ this creature is a scorpio- through to her fetid, undead marrow.
~ spiritually, zeph's a superstitious greek grandmother and a demonic kewpie doll..
~ discord is her middle name. that's one of the many reasons she likes going to high school (which she can only do, due to the sun, by wearing an enchanted lapis stone ring), for all the teenage nonsense. for instance, the silly clique war is enthralling. if she had a golden apple, she'd throw it at one those witless little generals.
~ (she, herself, might be a golden apple ?)
~ 'got to give it up' by marvin gaye plays too-loudly on record player (sort of got stuck, musically, in the disco era, unfortunately.)
    ~ definitely invested in some heart-shaped blood-lollies (because she's ~creepy cute~) thank you malva and the vampire-side of etsy~
~ "lea- ? may she be split- she treats me like a dog on a leash." but also: "lea, poulaki mou, what would i do without you ?"
~ crouches on furniture to hiss-watch bad reality television

𝕲𝖔𝖆𝖑𝖘 / 𝕯𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖒𝖘 •• Havoc. Heart-shaped pupils. But also...and don't tell Lea...a dark entity to carry her in its arms. Awful, bloody power- but in the form of a terrible couple. As Zephyr has never met anyone who would protect her, never mind indulge her or even stand her for more than a few days... If you'll forgive her the cliché- she desires a Hades/Hadeia to her own viscera-dipped Persephone. You know, typical teen girl things.

𝕱𝖊𝖆𝖗𝖘 •• Well, boredom, primarily. She doesn't have the foresight to really fear anything- she's too busy larping as a vapid teenager obsessed with boys and prom to really give any thought to potential dangers. Worrying is more of a Lea thing. Zephyr keeps safe and comfortable in her own little dream world- or at least, she really makes a valiant attempt at it.

𝕼𝖚𝖎𝖗𝖐𝖘 / 𝕳𝖆𝖇𝖎𝖙𝖘 •• Zephyr likes to do the most annoying thing to make people around her look stupid. For instance, Lea's biggest complaint is that Zeph doesn't listen ("Soap in your ears?"), when in reality, she does listen- she just ignores Lea hoping to incite a little laugh (or as Lea likes to call them "incidents"). She does this with teachers at school, too- it isn't limited to flesh-and-blood. Making others slowly insane is perhaps one of her many demon-y talents- more than just a quirk. Zephyr plays her music, horror video games, reality television shows FAR too louldy- considering her hearing sense is heightened, it makes absolutely no sense. She just likes it that way. Zeph has a tendancy to sing-song her way through conversation, especially in a tense situation- it's just...one of those extra creepy things about her. Like the heart-shaped blood lollies from Etsy which she carries with her to school, hoping a fellow student will ask for one.

𝕱𝖎𝖗𝖘𝖙 𝕴𝖒𝖕𝖗𝖊𝖘𝖘𝖎𝖔𝖓 •• Probably something like, "Why is Strawberry Shortcake sniffing the air like that ?"

𝕲𝖊𝖓𝖊𝖗𝖆𝖑 •• Though Zephyr plays naïve for laughs, she's very much not. She would like to be- she doesn't like remembering the past, especially. She doesn't like to dwell on the decades she spent "switched off" and rampant in the New England area- which is why it's hard sometimes to ackowledge Lea's presence in her life now. It's Zephyr's own doing in more ways than one... She's a bit envious of her fellow students- they're...stupid, in the most excellent, enviable way possible. Zephyr likes being one of them even for a moment. Secretly, of course. Lea would definitely make fun of her for feeling something so...weak. She hates herself for it- she hates herself quite a bit. And so it's no wonder, even to Zephyr, why she is as old as she is and still has no one to lean on. Yes, there's Lea, but their relationship is fraught with invisible land-mines and violence and hatred still to be uprooted and worked through.... Zephyr would really like someone to, for once, want to be with her. Of course, all these years she's pushed people out of her life as a sort of self-punishment, but it wasn't as if any of them fought to stay by her side. She wants a protector. Sorely. Yet, she would rather die than admit it. And so she plays her little high school game to cope with the emptiness, perhaps. Whatever the cause, the fact remains, Zephyr prefers her unreality. At least in her make-believe world, there remains in her a little spark of hope...that something extraordinary is coming for her.

𝕱𝖆𝖒𝖎𝖑𝖞 𝕳𝖎𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖞 •• [ Modern Xenakis Overview ]

Zephyr was born in Mystic Falls to first-generation Greek immigrants in the late 1800's...to the great disappointment of her father who wanted a son more than anything. But Zephyr would have to do as the dear Mrs. Xenakis was rendered incapable of having any more children following the awful toll it took to bring Zephyr into the world. The complications actually kept her mother bed-ridden, and because her father was far from a paternal creature (perhaps he would've fought harder to keep a son near him), he unilaterally decided to send the child back to Greece with her maternal aunt, to be raised by relatives in Lamia.

Zephyr's relatives passed her around for years, and in the end, she was largely an overlooked character in her family's story. After all, she was as good as an orphan who occasionally recieved a letter from her mother (and a modicum of money from her father, but that usually went to whoever was feeding/sheltering Zeph at the moment).

As a virtually unsupervised teenager, Zephyr met an older man while on holiday with her grandmother- and in her extreme naiveté, she was enticed into running away with him to his home in Athens. Within months, (and at only sixteen years old) she became pregnant...only to be abandoned once the older man was revealed to be already married. She did attempt to return to her grandmother's home for support, but was turned away by one of her uncles with more than a few unsavoury epithets. Zephyr never saw any of them again.

A literal child, destitute, and very pregnant, Zephyr was finally accepted into a Greek Orthodox home for women in her condition in the very last days of her pregnancy. Those days may have been clear all those years ago, but today, it's all a blur to Zephyr. Strange sounds in the night, shadows creeping under doorways, bright red bed linens.... It was supposed to be a sanctuary, but the air was too rotted for that. It still doesn't make sense to her, all those voices....

Zephyr gave birth in the home, producing a pair of healthy twins- but before sunrise, she had bled to death.

The hull of a ship is what she remembers following childbirth.... Freshly un-dead but well-sated with the blood of a dozen sailors. Zephyr, as ever, was alone- and deeply confused as to what had become her. She sat amid a pile of corpses, bobbing in the sea...swathed in blood...in a daze. She couldn't even process enough to wonder where the babies were. All the while, she was bound for New York City.

[It was months before Zephyr would learn what it takes to become a Vampire and wonder what exactly had transpired in the women's home...]

Zephyr was actually discovered, maimed (yet with nothing fatal to her new form), and thrown overboard before reaching Ellis Island. However, not really caring what became of her next, she simply allowed herself to wash ashore in the New York Harbor. A frail wisp of dark hair and stained linen, at the time, she was carried inland by paramedics, who assumed she was a drowned body, which is how she came to the morgue in Brooklyn- a first stop in an odyssey of violent foibles.

Abel Hoffman, the morgue attendant that discovered Zephyr unabashedly noshing on a rat in a corner the following morning, was to be something of her saviour. As fortune would have it, Abel was a Vampire making a living among the dead. The attendant was able to talk Zephyr into trusting him (despite his limited Greek)- able to get her back to his apartment in Clinton Hill without incident and introduce her to his partner, Elisha, who was also a Vampire.

As Zephyr looked like hell, the two men allowed her to clean herself up before delivering the bad news. "You're dead," is never an easy thing to hear, and in Zephyr's case, her reaction was to lock herself in the mens' bedroom and scream at the top of her lungs until the police were called by neighbours.

She stayed in bed for days. Abel and Elisha watched over her all the while, but they knew she would desiccate soon without feeding. So, Abel brought pig's blood (usually for broths) from the local market to coax into Zeph, to keep her strength up even just marginally. Just enough to keep her from becoming mummified- but it was hard to explain these dangers to someone, strange as they are, nevermind with a language barrier.

Frightened and even more confused than before, Zephyr just wanted her grandmother.

Meanwhile, Charalambia Xenakis, who was notified of her daughter's passing (and subsequent missing body), travelled all the way to Greeec, to the orphanage her grandchildren had been handed over to, to recieve the boy twin on her husband's request. Nikolaos had, afterall, always desired a son. They named him for his great-grandfather- Triantafyllos.

The remaining baby, the girl, had become poorly in the following days of her birth. The Xenakis family eventually learned of her passing some days following Charalambia's visit to the orphanage.

Charalambia and Nikolaos raised the boy as their own child, never once in his life mentioning his mother's name.

Having had her fill of pig's blood (and no human essence since the ship), Zephyr did manage to give Abel and Elisha the slip one night. They discovered her two nights later, holed in a warehouse near Brooklyn's waterfront- in what is today the Dumbo area.

Vampires can stomach just about anything, but the scene they came upon in that warehouse was, even to the men, disturbing. Over three dozen humans were reported missing after Zephyr's three day rampage. More than one victim, no more than a child.

Abel and Elisha realised then that they were too ill-equipped to handle something like Zephyr. They decided to hand her over to those they knew would be able to help her navigate the supernatural world- as well as, perhaps, keep her from calling even more attention to herself. (She had already drawn too many eyes to Brooklyn in the wake of her killings. For everyone involved, the men believed sending Zephyr away was the best option.)

Abel was the one to take Zephyr to Long Island one night, via train, which could have been a disaster were it not for a spot of vervain in Zephyr's evening pig's blood. Too feverish and weak to do much of anything other than endure the journey wrapped in Abel's coat. She was frail enough then to pass for a much younger child than she was- no one questioned the mustachioed man travelling with his poorly daughter.

Zephyr found herself coming around the following evening in one of the most opulent spaces she'd ever been in before- she lay in a four-poster with polished brass details, sumptuous bedding and feathery pillows. To say nothing of the ornate furnishings...

Zephyr wanted to believe she was finally dead.

But, in reality, Abel Hoffman had relinquished Zephyr into the care of none other than the Original Vampires, who were, for a moment, settled comfortably in a Georgian-style estate in the East Hamptons. One of the Originals, the one called Solara, managed to explain as much in perfect Greek before Zeph took a stab at clawing her throat out.

Abandoned again. And, worse yet, there were horrible realisations of viscera and helpless whimpers.... Sound and dreaful silence. What on earth had she become? Once more, Zephyr was immobilised by how much she wanted her grandmother.

Weeks passed as Solara took Zephyr under her wing. All the while, the latter girl treated every day like a death sentence. She grew envious of Solara and the others who could touch sunlight, while she stayed hidden in the dark like a rodent in its hole.
