"Bad girl" social elites are sent to Angelhead Island Renewal Resort & Refuge for their own good.
They can't leave- but while they stay, there are a plethora of ways to distract oneself from the fact that freedom has a price ("Death of the soul", some girls say.)- from bizarre fairy visions in the island mangroves to drinking "Sunlight" in a champagne glass. It seems, with the Doctor's vitamins, anything is possible.
This "Resort" isn't anything like what anyone first envisions- what anyone on the outside thinks it is- finishing school, rehab clinic, sanitarium, retreat...
The fact is, no matter how much of a "good girl" you become, you're never going home again.

"Neem" Zaitseva has made a tidy living out of miraculously transforming some of society's most infamous "bad girls" and waywards into genuine, mannerly and thoroughly delightful creatures- all, the zenith of grace and loveliness.
It's mysterious work.
The well-off families who send their children to be "fixed" by the former ballerina at her so-called "Renewal Resort and Refuge" must first sign a veritible Holy Bible's worth of esoteric legal paperwork- to say nothing of the princely sum required to even be placed on the wait-list.
Well, a spot in the Doctor's programme would not be so in demand if her results were not extraordinary. Her methods- whatever they are- one cannot argue with the astounding outcome. Where there was once a girl who desired a life apart from her family, there is now a sweet young woman whose place in life is, not just known, but happily accepted.
"I like to think I am restoring the natural order of things, in a way," Dr. Zaitseva wrote in her autobiography. "In most cases, these girls just need someone to look up toโto see someone like them in a position like mine, with all the knowledge that I have. It impresses them, I think. It makes them want to do and be better young women."
Many suspect, through her many writings, that the "Renewal" programme Dr. Zaitseva offers is something akin to mentorship- or guruship, even. Perhaps, it's even a bit to do with spiritualism. No one outside of Angelhead Island truly knows as the girls who graduate from the programme (i.e. get to go home) are barred from ever divulging the Doctor's secrets.
And, really, parents of graduates are so thrilled to have their little angel reformed to their liking that they don't want to know the gritty details. They want to forget the old behaviours and finally move on-
It's the pretty result they want most.
And Neem Zaitseva knows that better than anyone.

Of course, none of the girls are willing participants in the programme.
Forced one way or another (usually by drugging) onto the island, they are each, from then on, kept under strict lock-and-key "for their own safety"- and prohibitted from contacting friends and family (as outlined in the contracts).
However, it isn't all bleak imprisonment- the island is a Resort, after all! The crรจme de la crรจme- brimming with sunny activities for idle hands, glimmering ocean vistas for the wandering eye, and a serving staff (of both the human and machine varieties) to fulfill each and every little desire (within rule and reason).
Most girls end up settling in well. They take their vitamins and lessons- they reflect in Angelhead's fantasy land and learn well from it- they don't cause trouble for the Doctors- they graduate and then return home.
But there are those girls that have many questions- are very curious- have a hard time fitting in among the others. Don't take their vitamins or listen in their lessons. They may struggle quite a bit on the island, but what is certain as birth, death & change is that
every Angelhead girl eventually learns her lesson.
