"The Last Juliet" (Chloe & Yujia for W Korea)

  • The 1996 film "Romeo + Juliet" and Star Beam has surprising similarities more than we expect.

In 2018, the girl group performed "Last Romeo" by Infinite during MAMA 2018. In 2019, interestingly, the point outfits of their 2nd title track [of S/S 2019] "0 Mile" were white crop tops and Hawaiian shirts which reminds us of the 1996 remake of the iconic Shakespearean tragedy. But the irony is, the song is about the excitement of meeting their significant other rather than the tragic light. Their member Chaehee got to portray Juliet in their concept films twice .

Fast forward to 2020, Star Beam released their upbeat breakup anthem, "Love is Over" Both of them have bright visuals but tell the tragic ending of a relationship. But the difference is, in "Love is Over", the narrator chose to walk away instead of hurting herself further.

Our modern Juliets, Chloe & Yujia, were perceived as just dainty and pretty visuals. Yes, they are very pretty but they are more than that. They are known for their strong mentality as they navigate their career in the K-pop industry as foreigners. Both of them forged a beautiful bond with the rest of Star Beam since their trainee days. For years, they conquered oceans of language barrier and xenophobia by working hard and taking risks in their career. These days, both girls proved every hater wrong by improving their singing and rapping skills in their recent album, "Spell Bound". Also they took part in the album by giving and executing songwriting and choreography ideas just to prove their worth as artists. Their team work, strength, resilience, hard work and talent earned the respect of everyone. They are like Juliet for fighting for their love without giving in too much to others' opinions though it seems complicated and forbidden at first.

While we think that these girls are the modern Juliets, when can we see them doing the "Romeo & Juliet" concept? Let's wait and see
