CONCEPT MOOODBOARD: "Love is Over"
-
Hello ByulBis~~~
The concept mood board is baaaaaaack!!!! Here you can see how Star Beam's beloved songs came to life with this concept moodboard. The concept of "Love is Over" was based on the movie "The Love Witch" which is VERY VERY VERY FAR from Star Beam's usual pop culture tributes that featured beloved movies. The last concept moodboard post is during "I Am" era (it's been exactly a year since I graduated from college)
For anyone who is unfamiliar with "The Love Witch", it is an indie movie about a beautiful witch who seduces men and kills them (kinda problematic, isn't it?). I get the point that love is not easy in reality but to the extent of killing that person? no. The perfect K-pop songs that perfectly describes the movie are "Kill This Love" by BLACKPINK & "Psycho" by Red Velvet (yes, I watched too much Psycho edits on Twitter so I knew the song a bit better)
So "Love is Over" is a song about breaking free from cold end of relationships, so we have the members being cheated by Bomin in the MV. The cheating plot was inspired by some of the most public and dramatic breakups in Philippine showbiz in the recent years. Those cheating scandals got into my nerves to the point that I have to make a concept here in UrStyle. Making sets here is one my creative outlets so don't mind me~~~~
I wonder why no one dared to make a diss raps against those cheaters in showbiz because are they the embodiment of the leading man archetype? Because they're handsome? They're popular? One is a serial cheater and one is everyone who thought that he is reformed thanks to his recent ex. The latter is the one my best friend really really hated the most just because he breathes period. Lately, we clowned him for being a copycat of Haechan's NeoZone era mullet hair
Okay back to the concept, the MV has bright aesthetic while having a dark plot something that is recurring with Red Velvet. Instead of killing, I replaced it with unlove spell which is the reverse of love spell wherein the one who drinks will be avoided by others even if he persistently begs for love. Something like Cassandra Effect or something. If I try to follow the original plot by heart, the MV might be banned by KBS because of gross violence
Instead of members fighting because of Bomin, they are fighting Bomin for the sake of their sanity & healing. I tried to stay away from pink because it was associated with "I Am" era & Yujia but yeaaaaah, I can't~~~~
So here are the pegs that inspired the "Love is Over" MV:
THE OT7 Scenes:
Ryuna's Scene:
The burning of red string scene was inspired by Miyeon's scene in "Lion" MV & Super Junior M's "Blue Tomorrow" MV. BTW, Ryuna's scene is based from Red String of Fate belief
Chaehee's Scene
Chae's makeup in the MV is Euphoria-inspired. Using the language of the flowers plot device once again, the petunia flower symbolizes anger and resentment especially when they are presented by someone with whom you have recently had a heated disagreement.
Chloe's Scene
In the MV, Chloe destroyed framed photos of Bomin & the TVs played Bomin's cuts in Golden Child's MVs. The mere fact that the MV poked fun of celebrity breakups as I mentioned earlier, the photos and TV represented the cheater's status as a public figure and also, what we see on the television, papers and social media, we never know the whole story. It's not the first time for Star Beam to have a cheating plot in the MV, the first one is "Click" but the cheater was Jangjun of Golden Child (who cheated on Chaehee)
Hyoshin's Scene
Our main vocal, Hyoshin, got the most dramatic makeover this era by trading her long black hair with a peachy long bob. The mugshot scene was inspired by my thought of third parties being crucified by everyone (represented by the rest of Star Beam). Here Hyo wore a snake skin print minidress paired with snake jewelry to maximize the effect. The idea was inspired by of course, Reputation era Taylor Swift. How shameless Hyoshin could get?
Jeonah's Scene
Jeonah joked that she looked like Mal of Descendants in the outfit (well, to refer that the public hates her even if she is the victim). Also remember the time where Star Beam released their OST of "Descendants 3"? for the pastel aesthetic, we have the "Love Witch" for the reference
Saeyoon's Scene
Saeyoon represented rage of the victim and the public towards the cheater in the MV by shooting darts with photos of Bomin while during the near end of the MV, she was put into daggers of death
Yujia's Scene
Here, Yujia has to adjust herself so she can be good enough to Bomin as a girlfriend but sadly she failed. But instead, she used this heartbreaking experience as a motivation to get her happy ending she deserved (spoiler alert: she got the boy). The MV is basically filmed in Yujia's point of view in which how she rose above the challenges even the society can't accept her for who she is. The black & pink scheme screamed the iconic "I Am" era aesthetic which is associated with clash of edgy and feminine styles (Basically, Star Beam's trademark onstage style in a nutshell).
Bomin's scene
While looking at Bomin's photos in "Wannabe" era, I thought, what if when Yujia is "burned" (instead a project image of flames played in the background while tied up and crying), Bomin was also "burned" too since he is the root of everything
So how's my creative process in the MV? I'm sorry if this took too long that I have to think of their outfits for Inkigayo today but maybe tomorrow, I will do that so no pressure
