Penny is Kanine’s closest friend, given she knew them before going into foster care. The two often work together, as they did in high school, to make connections and brand deals. Except Penny’s a little too good at it, given she’s dating B&B’s manager, Léo.

Oh Aiden! The love interest has entered the chat. He’s most plainly seen as the life of the party. However, once you get past his wall, he’s found to be calm, charming, and witty. There have been rare occasions where Apollo hasn’t made Blade laugh. Although he can be flighty, his spur-of-the-moment ideas can lead the gang to outlandish silliness, even if it’s playing hide-and-seek in Home Depot or toilet photoshoots in Ikea. Additionally, Apollo’s the only one of the band who’s out about his sexuality. Granted, Harmonies hasn’t exactly figured it out and Kanine… is Kanine..., but still. Most fans see him as the honest one, the one with the most BDE, given he doesn’t need to be the center of attention to be a powerful force. Unfortunately, Blade find this, and his quips, sexy as hell.

༻ 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐬:

What began as a young, bright friendship between Darcy and Kanine eventually became the budding romantic publicity stunt that you see before you. Well, that isn't true; they did love each other at one point. Except Kanine was never attracted to her, at least not physically. Several months of therapy later, and they came out to Brindle (though she still doesn't know about their non-binary identity... but no one knows other than Apollo, Penny, Sheridan, and Harmonies). Now, the two remain together at the urging of their shared-record label. It's a strained relationship, given that they're faking 75% of it. Still, the pair have the potential to be exceptional friends, and Brindle rarely leaves a conversation with Kanine without telling them that she loves them + she'd support them unconditionally. It's only by the sensibility and morality of Darcy that Kanine has been granted the gift of time to figure out what they want to do concerning their life as a musician and celebrity

If she's closest with anyone of B&B, it's Harmonies. The pair have always clicked on a deep level, given their struggles with their eating disorders and self-image. They also understand what it's like to feel ostracized because of their age (give Harmonies is 24 & Brindle is 20, the pair are the min & max of B&B & their friends). Darcy has just always managed to be honest with Harmonies about her identity as a famous musician, given she's been a charts-topper since she was 16.

𝐋é𝐨 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡é {manager, mentor, and old flame | 32 | fc: Gaspard Menier}

Léo has been apart of the cannon of B&B from their first album. He volunteered to be their manager after hearing them play one of the limited tour dates they got from the popularity of the demo and singles. He's even fair- only taking 15%- and he loves all of the members like family, except Penny and that one time with Kanine. In all fairness, Kanine had just started to figure out their sexuality and immediately projected their parental issues onto someone who was, to some extent, at least mildly appropriate & had dad energy. Léo is always keeping track of everyone and ensuring their well-being. The instance with Kanine was a lack of good judgment, considering how young they were at the time. Penny, however, is a different story for Léo. Their personalities meld in a way that is similar but different enough to bring new dimensions to their lives. From the start, the pair have been intimately honest with each other, and they even talk of their future together, married with three greyhounds.

༻ 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞:

Eboy but make it skater boy grunge. Plenty of GOLF WANG, beanies, and thrift store, stained sweaters. Can’t be found without their platform sneakers that they custom pain. Their favorite pair? Their Filas (which fold out to roller skates) with The Velvet Underground & Nico’s album cover (i.e. the famous Andy Warhol banana) painted on them. Kanine has approximately three custom pairs that they repaint every couple of weeks, insisting upon keeping their carbon footprint at a minimum. Still, they have their vices. Since they were twelve, they’ve collected tiny, useless things. Everything from rubber duckies to porcelain frog, you name it and Kanine’s got it. Most of their little tchotchkes become some form of jewelry (especially dangly earrings & charms for their pant chains), but some make it to the coveted spot on the shelves that go around their bedroom.

༻ 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝:

At the age of twelve, Kanine and their sister, Sheridan (age eight), were put into foster care. For the vast majority of Kanine’s life, they’ve blamed themself, often citing their inability to protect Sheridan from their father’s inconsistency or their mother’s rage. To save you, the reader, from the salacious details, the Izzat siblings’ lives can be summarized with a word: crack. Then, later, heroin, but that was only developed in Kanine and Sheridan’s last few months at home. That isn’t to say that their childhood was awful; their parents were compassionate, giving, and patient. That all changed when their mother lost her architect job, and she didn’t tell anyone for months. It didn’t take long for their lonely father to start to dabble with their mother. Although there were moments where he was sober, there weren’t enough apologies in the world to make up for the breach of trust. Of protection.

It took a lot for Kanine to reveal the truth, but they lost the ability to keep the situation under control, especially with their mother growing more volatile and violent. And their dad being gone the entirety of the month prior to their removal from home didn’t help. The Izzats had run out of money, and although Kanine knew how to pay bills by phone, he couldn’t exactly get a job. After the third day without food, they turned to their teacher, explaining their and Sheridan’s situation in as abstract terms as possible. But the truth came out eventually.

Bippity boppity boo, and Sheridan and Kanine were living with their foster father, Gabriel, and life got increasingly better. They’d never felt more loved and trusting than in their new home, and they felt even better, knowing Sheridan got to have a normal tweendom & teenagedom. Middle school was far better for the pair of them considering they didn’t have to manage the checkbook, feed their sister, and somehow manage school life. Still, it isn’t to say that they didn’t miss their parents. Purposefully, they kept information about their parents as far away from themself as possible. Kanine didn’t want to know and still doesn’t. Except now that they’re famous, their parents have tried to contact Sheridan and them. Mostly him. You can guess at why.

By high school, Kanine felt mostly normal... except for the panic attacks and insomnia. But nevermind that for now, they’re too busy happy to have friends, a dad, and a happy sister. During the summer before sophomore year, Baronesses & Ballistics (who were called Wet Dog then… but they don’t talk about that phase) had their first gig, illegally playing after 9 p.m. at the local bar. At that time, there were primarily middle-aged people trying to enjoy a pint after a 12-hour workday. As high school went on, Baronesses & Ballistics finally got a name, and their entire high school-owned B&B’s demo tape (which Penny & Kanine peddled at lunch while Harmonies and Apollo, who were Hermione and Aiden then, burned copies onto blank CDs & flash drives in the library). After going viral on Spotify and YouTube with their single “Crawl In My Lungs And Eat Your Heart Out” (they had their Panic! phase where long titles were the aesthetic). The music video featured B&B at a dinner table, framed like the Last Supper, eating each other’s body parts. The video ended becoming flagged and age-restricted, but that only made their video more sought-after. People praised their folk-punk, Violent-Femmes-fused sound, and it wasn’t long before labels were emailing them. The summer after senior year, they signed for Atlantic Records after their third single topped the YouTube trending page.

• Kanine has a tendency to tell little white lies, almost as though they’re a different person when talking to the paparazzi or even just strangers
• They can come across as arrogant and overconfident. Especially in interviews. It’s all a facade, but they aren’t seen as the “bad boy” of B&B for nothing {Just a reminder: The general public don’t know about their identity as non-binary}
• Online, Blade is pretty petty, but in a passive-aggressive way. They aren’t the type to spill tea, and they’re lucky that most people see their snarky remarks as sarcasm.
• They have the nasty habit of smoking. Granted, sometimes they try to offset their nicotine cravings with vaping, but they know it isn’t any better.

༻ 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬:

• Vulgarity. Kanine lets this slip through sometimes, especially on Twitter, but they swear a storm when they’re in private.
• They’re rash and impulsive a lot of the time. Although they have yet to do something really stupid, they get wild hairs up their butts to go and do something wild, fantastical, and momentous. Too bad Aiden is the only one who’s really up for it.
• Indecisive as hell, Kanine is lucky to make the choice about where to go for dinner within an hour. Their go-to response to any question involving plans is “I don’t know… what do you want to do?”

༻ 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐞:

Kanine loved it at first, but the bigger B&B gets, the more they realize how much it changes them. Daily, they can’t believe how much their life has changed since they were twelve, but they’re starting to want to go back to the old days. At least back to when Baronesses made their first album. It was beautiful, crafting Cutt Off Her Head with each other. Then, Kanine was writing. Correction: they were writing and sharing with the rest of the band. Now, they can’t get the gumption to tell the group anything about the lyrics, even with Penny. They’re terrified that once B&B sees their lyrics, Kanine’ll be seen as a sellout- or worse- poser. {Little do they know, Kanine’s lyrics are perhaps better than ever, given they’re taking online classes in poetry}. Still, Kanine feels inauthentic the more time they spend in the limelight.

༻ 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐆𝐨 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐱:

Blade owns a storage unit that they’ve decorated how they wanted their dream bedroom to look like when they were in high school. Posters everywhere, a mural of their rock heroes on one wall, lights hanging from every wall, an extensive record collection, and a set of egg chairs from the late 60s. They go here to relax, even put in some time writing. The tight, enclosed space makes them feel safe.

༻ 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐓𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨

• Given they prefer to dress authentically, Kanine usually suffers to keep themselves under wraps from the public. Still, a long trench coat has never hurt their attempts to make it through the crowd.

Blade just wants to make Baronesses & Ballistics the best it can be. They want to do something important with their life and the band. Hell, 75% of their songs are strongly political or at the very least, relate to current events and worries of their life and their peers’. Plus, making music is just in their blood. It makes them feel productive, as though they’re contributing to the greater good.
