As loath as she is to admit that she is the kind of girl who lends herself to nicknames, itโs not unheard of for her to go an entire day without answering to Phoebe. Sometimes it feels like ๐ข๐ฑ๐ฎ-๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ธ-๐๐พ๐ผ๐ฝ-๐๐ธ๐ฝ-๐๐ฎ-๐๐ช๐ถ๐ฎ๐ญ walks the halls. Why are others so afraid of saying her first name? She seems to have one of those peculiar situations where people use only a nickname or her names in their entirety. It would be so odd to have someone say, โDid you hear what happened to Phoebe?โ No, no. One is much more likely to hear, โYouโll never believe what . . . โ Eyes looking left and right to ensure she is nowhere nearby, voice dropping into a sudden whisper. . . โ Always haunted by her last name, that girl. Phoebe is a virgin. Boo, hiss. She wouldn't care for the "stigma" surrounding what it means to not have sex if people weren't so keen to make it up for her. When she came out as pansexual as a young thirteen-year-old, the student body ripped her narrative away from her. Phoebe Krum was much too dismissive and flippant about the rumors circulating. Apparently, she is renowned for her sexual exploits. By the time she thought about putting a stop to all of the gossip, it was much too late. Nobody believed her. So she holds her head high and lets them say what they want about her. But sometimes, in the dead of night, it all hurts a little too much. She can tell when people hit on her. They're not here to get to know her. They're here for what they think she can do for them. But she's holding out for ๐ฃ๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐๐ท๐ฎ, whatever that means. Even Phoebe isn't sure if she knows anymore.
Phoebe actually applied to go to university in the international college at Koldovstoretz but was rejected. One N.E.W.T. short of satisfactory, they claimed. It still infuriates her to the day if she hears anything about the Russian school. She pretends that Hogwarts was always her first and only choice.
When James started pursuing Phoebe and she actually began to reciprocate . . . well, it wasn't because of his charm. She saw the effect he had on people โ how everyone started to care about Phoebe Krum personally a little bit more when she was attached to his name. What if she used him as a springboard for her own influence? Would there be any harm if she simply dated him only a short while? Phoebe talked herself into it, and it kills her to this day. Because it didn't take long at all to see her mistake. She realized that James deserved better than being used { yet again } almost as soon as they got closer. But that can't change the past. And, yes, the only reason Phoebe indulged his affections at the start was due to the connections he could give her. She's never admitted that because she's not sure he would ever trust her again. Could he believe that she changed almost immediately? Or would the denial seem too convenient? After all, their breakup only made her more infamous.
The entire school is under the impression James dumped Phoebe. And just like with her sex life, she was too frustrated to correct them. He seems to indulge in the opinion, though, and sometimes that cuts deeper than she would like to admit.
As the creator and coder behind the original version of Phoebe is low-key behind all the misery it has caused.
When people ask Phoebe Krum about her future career, she often mentions something to do with her university major, charms, in a very practical sense. That's only because she's too embarrassed to admit that she is also studying engineering and hopes to become an astronaut. Space isn't only for Muggles, right?
Phoebe has an irrational and intense fear of any bugs. She melts into a puddle if one is in her room or near her stuff. Though she can hold her composure around most people, she can't always keep her cool.
After her Koldovstoretz rejection, Phoebe has been a bit insecure in her academic prowess. It has crossed her mind more than once that she might be capable of hacking into Hogwarts' magical records and changing grades. If not for herself, then for others at a very hefty price. She has always wanted to be independent of her father's money, and it is a bit tempting.
Phoebe only has one friend. Lena is the closest and best person she knows. Although they tell each other everything, Lena has not shared that she thinks she is bisexual. For one, it's hard to admit it to herself with her own internalized homophobia. And two, people already say Phoebe and Lena are dating all the time. Lena doesn't think her best friend is ugly { obviously }, but she doesn't want anyone to think they're together either. Especially because she might have always secretly had a secret crush on Phoebe's ex . . . Lena loved Phoebe and James together. She thought he was really good fo her. But now that they're over, it's pretty obvious that it would be toxic for them to every try again. All those issues don't disappear. Lena HATES herself for liking James, and she didn't notice until after the break-up. However, he started to text and call her sometimes under the guise of wanting to remain friends. They ๐ฑ๐ช๐ญ been close when he was dating Phoebe. Sure, Lena knew in her heart that he just wanted to keep tabs on what her best friend was up too. Of course she wouldn't swoop in and take him. It will always be a "what could have been." Or so she tells herself.
On one of her visits to Bulgaria, Phoebe got swept away by the chaos that is her Aunt Lidiya. She convinced her niece to follow her to this very . . . bizarre, exotic group of traveling merchants. They had the most awe-inspiring and nightmare-inducing magic Phoebe had ever seen. And, despite the British wizarding world having an intense fear of magical tattoos after Voldemort's reign, she couldn't help herself. In exchange for a minor fee { the comfortable feeling she gets from her childhood stuffed animal }, Phoebe was emblazoned with a swirling dark ink that can move around her body and transform into a symbol her heart's desire. It's been stuck as a sun for so long she forgot it's capable of changing. Whatever that is supposed to mean . . .

When people hear the last name Krum, they don't expect the girl who turns her head to be so . . . British. Those who don't know Phoebe seem to forget that she was born and raised in Manchester. While she has visited Bulgaria a time or two, she is very much distant from her father's home country and culture. He speaks to her in Bulgarian all the time. She can collect bits and pieces of what he means, but she certainly can't reply. Sure, her fake Bulgarian accent in English is spot-on; however, she is quite tired of people assuming she doesn't eat beans on her toast and says "vot" instead of "what."
Her words are meticulous. They cut like daggers. Phoebe does not say things to fill the empty silence. In fact, she thrives in the awkwardness that comes from not replying. She only says something when it matters . . . even though her idea of "mattering" might mean going out of her way to scare or confuse others. Phoebe is renowned for constantly walking away in the middle of a conversation or, even worse, staring blankly at someone until they're so uncomfortable that they leave. Practically every interaction is a game of cat and mouse to her. And, let's face it: Phoebe has always been the predator.
She does not want the fame that comes from popularity. In fact, she often disliked the curious looks that people gave her once they discovered her last name. That was part of the reason she took to dressing goth all those years ago. If they were going to whisper about her anyway, Phoebe wanted to control the narrative. She is a perfectionist who likes to be in charge. Fame is empty; power, on the other hand, is something she insatiably pursues. Phoebe wants to be known for her achievements. Sometimes she catches herself and wonders how the sorting hat didn't put her in Slytherin.
But as much as she highly regards her drive, Phoebe is also terrified of it. She always considers the consequences of her actions. Isn't that part of why she clashed so much with James? But how can she not worry about that darkness taking over when she has already caused so much pain? Phoebe's own hands created It is brilliant. She is brilliant. She won't deny that. But it is hard to be proud of something that viciously attacks people. And ever since the application spiraled out of her control, Phoebe has been hyper-conscious of her effect on the world. She may seem heartless, but she never wanted to destroy people's lives. She never wanted to really hurt somebody. These fears have really checked her ambitions. If she is only capable of evil, she doesn't deserve to accomplish anything. The confidence she oozes covers all of her doubts quite nicely. Not to mention how most people are terrified of her to dig deep into how some of her actions and words don't add up. But even when the nicest, sweetest boy opened up his secrets and insecurities to her, Phoebe couldn't return the favor. She has never been truly vulnerable. A part of her feels like she will never deserve to be known and loved like that.
The instability of her parents' relationships has made her fear intimacy on a deep level that Phoebe has not come close to understanding or unpacking. She still looks at her childhood through rose-colored glasses. Her father fostered her worst habits โ spoiling her, encouraging immature communication habits, and basically teaching her to run away when things got difficult or real. Her mum's good intentions got lost in the chaos of juggling single-parenthood and being the only one enforcing rules. How could she live up to being as cool as a magical, international superstar? Phoebe scorned Azar's attempts at a good relationship for many years, with a bratty attitude making the chasm of their connection grow worse.
Phoebe prides herself on being grounded. In many ways she is. Sometimes it blurs into being so sensible that she scorns anything dreamy or frivolous. There is such a thing as being too practical. And she is equally distrustful. Knowing how her own mind can be so dark, Phoebe is quick to assume the worst in situations and people. To be fair, others often assume the worst of her too. That's why they all cower out of her way when she walks down the hallway or shake if they have to be her partner in class. Phoebe Krum may very well rip their heart out. And she'd be lying if she said it didn't cross her mind every once in a while. But just for the aesthetic, right?
B I O G R A P H Y
The truth is simple: Phoebe Krum should not exist.
Azar Veisi was an ordinary woman who very much enjoyed her life in downtown Manchester. She worked a sensible job in a large chain bank and spent most of her money self-indulging in the finer things that a big city offers, alongside her equally wild friends. Viktor, who was not even close to the peak of his successful career, had recently transferred to Puddlemere United. It was in an unknown, smaller wizarding city, close enough to Manchester for him to occasionally visit. As he was fascinated by Britain after the Tournament and wanted to help it recover from the war, he was quite happy to enjoy all the English wizarding world had to offer. And, sometimes, what the Muggle world had to offer too . . .
They had an undeniable spark, but none of that really mattered when true responsibility came knocking. Azar found out she was pregnant after casually seeing the โmanโ for barely two months. If it were not for Viktorโs charming smile and listening calm, Azar likely would have ghosted him and kept it all a secret. But part of why they hadnโt exactly been that careful was because, years earlier, she had been told that had she would be unable to get pregnant. So why bother? Oops. Though only twenty-two, Azar could not bear the idea of giving up her one chance to have a baby.
Viktor was over the moon, even though things turned rather sour when he told the truth of his existence โ of the world tucked right underneath the Mugglesโ noses. A newborn to worry about ๐ช๐ท๐ญ an entirely new world of magic to take in? It was all too much. Though he insisted he wanted to โdo the right thingโ by marrying her, Azar did not hold his more traditional values. She was resolute on raising the little one herself in the real { not โMuggleโ } world, especially if prying eyes would be trying to see the Quidditch starโs accidental love child.
They did try to make it work as a couple. Sometimes. And in many ways, the attempts pretending to be a happy family only made things worse in the end. Viktor never moved into the apartment, although he did help fund part of it. He would stay over every once in a while, but they found that it often got Phoebeโs naรฏve hopes way too high up. With his constant world-wide moving and, even worse, their clashing personalities, they could never date for long. It was always better to just stay on good terms as co-parents. But, ever the romantic, Viktor would find himself getting swept away for Azarโs beauty and intelligence, and she would fall for his smile all over again. Was it different this time around?
โ โ โ โ No. It wasnโt. Something real would happen. They would actually need to support each other. Be mature together. And it would all fall apart. Back to square one. Sometimes even square zero. Months without talking, besides the quick โTime to hang up, love,โ when Phoebe would beg to call him but Azar would need her phone back for work. And that her phrase was never meant in Viktorโs direction. She could not even acknowledge him โ not that his response of, โDonโt worry. Your next presents are coming by owl soon,โ was any more mature.
So while Phoebe always knew of magic, she grew up separate from it. She was not aware of how the wizarding world worked; it sometimes felt like her papa was the only magical being in the entire universe. This made him quite the enigma in her eyes. Sometimes he played in the British and Irish League and was around often to spoil her with chocolate frogs and the most fascinating wares from Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. Sometimes he was gone for months at a time with only a facetime every few weeks to remind her of his existence { or, rather, to remind ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ถ of ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ }. It seemed the glamor of being a father was lost on him rather quickly. Viktor acted more like the cool uncle who occasionally came around to cause equal parts of awe and disarray than a man who wanted to responsibly raise a daughter. But his little angel didnโt see that. Not yet.
To a girl who loved him unconditionally { and equally adored being spoiled by magical toys no one else had }, Viktor was everything that the papers wrote him to be: a celebrity; fantastic; and certainly above all the rest. Phoebe elevated her father on a pedestal. In her eyes, he could do no wrong. It only made things more difficult for Azar, especially the older their daughter became. She was never the fun parent, only โthe tyrantโ who kept her from the exciting world of spells and made her do her homework. Being the rational one who took care of Phoebe was not nearly as glamorous as flying through the air or making fireworks spark her name out for her birthday. All these years later, Phoebe is only barely beginning to see the sacrifices her mother has made. But that decade of teenage angst and resentment is a hard wall to break down. She has not been the nicest to her mum . . . which, perhaps with a little more maturity, she will learn to wholeheartedly regret. One can hope.
Actually, for a long time, Phoebe wasnโt nice to anyone. Growing up in the middle of a large cityโs downtown metropolis meant there was an endless supply of children her age to go on adventures with. If someone snapped at her for not sharing or called her out on being mean, Phoebe could simply walk away and find a new โfriendโ to play with. She was very much the stereotypical only child who did not hold any sympathy for others and was used to winning absolutely anything she tried. Her work ethic was abysmal; if she was not immediately the best, Phoebe abandoned it. Quite often in a huff, too, so she could call her father with a few tears in her eyes and earn another ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฏ๐พ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ฎ { the perfect way to trick Azar and have a chance to stay home from โuseless Muggle schoolโ }.
โ โ โ โ Then, of course, Phoebeโs eleventh birthday arrived. Although they all knew what was to come, none of them expected her to break down at the last minute. On August 31st, the little witch ran down the stairs where Viktor and Azar were having breakfast. { Apparently, her nearly beginning wizarding school was quite the way to bring them together. At least for a month. } She firmly announced that she would not be going to Hogwarts at all. She would be a regular girl from here on out. Though she did not say it, the underlying message was clear: the pressure of it all was too much to handle. Phoebe, quite frankly, was terrified of failing.
Azar wanted to scoop her into her arms and never let her leave. She already hated the idea of her daughter, even at her worst temper, being so far away from her for so long. It would be wonderful to try to live an ordinary life. No more illusions. No more fantasy. But she knew it was wrong. Phoebe was meant to go. It was time.
While Viktor stuttered in shock, Azar led Phoebe back upstairs to where nearly all of her items were packed. Her father has no idea what she said to their daughter. Usually, when she pouted like that, nothing could get through to her. But that little speech still rings in her head today. โAs a Muggle, there will be a million things you do not know. The kids who grew up in magical households will understand so much more โ things that you cannot even begin to imagine yet. But that wonโt last. Youโll catch up. You may have grown up here, but think of that as a gift. You grew up having to do things yourself. No wand, no spell. Just your own wit.โ Azarโs delicate forehead kiss calmed more nerves than words ever could, but she continued.
At Hogwarts, your last name will speak for you. That doesnโt matter. You already learned who you are without that nonsense. And because of that, you have an advantage. You will see things differently, but that is a good thing. That means you have a new way of doing things. Maybe the wizarding world needs more Muggle influence. Maybe you can teach the other kids just as much as they teach you.โ
The next day, Phoebe waved goodbye to her mum and dad as the train pulled away. No one saw how she was shaking in her slightly-too-big Doc Martens.
Yes, for the first few years, she did struggle. It was a very humbling experience. Though she knew from tests at her Muggle school that she was dyslexic { not to mention how she suspected something was different in a non-magical way long before that paperโs confirmation }, it was something she could easily avoid back then with a temper tantrum or two. Her mum felt too guilty to make her continue. The problem was that the inability to read or write without a mistake destroyed Phoebeโs self-confidence. She ๐ด๐ท๐ฎ๐ she was smart. She ๐ด๐ท๐ฎ๐ she had the right answer or could comprehend the lesson if someone said it out loud for her. But it made her ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ต stupid. And that made her downright angry. There are many flaws that Phoebe Krum has; being stupid is not one of them. Except she couldnโt exactly throw her textbook across the room and get out of her homework. Not in front of other students or professors.
Being a Ravenclaw made it worse. All of her housemates were diving into their books, whereas she wanted nothing to do with them. Phoebe became obsessed with what she called They were things unexplored in her texts, which gave her all the more excuses to avoid them. She was constantly mixing together Muggle technology with magic. Yes, the original coding of ๐ฃ๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐ ๐พ๐ฒ๐ซ๐ซ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป is her baby. Most people forget how it was once an innocent part of the newspaper created by a student. In fact, Phoebe Krum often makes sure they forget.
Even though she once loved that her father was famous, his absurdly-long and successful career did cause a few problems for her. Joining the Quidditch team herself didnโt help. The comparisons were always being thrown around. And itโs true; she has his natural talent. But lacking the passion, she never reached her full potential. She never considered playing after school, despite all the newspapers that heralded the father-daughter duo that would one day grace a lucky team. Phoebe feels guilty for not pursuing it; she is ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฝ good, just like she always dreamed of succeeding at something when she was a child. But she is not the same brat she once was. { At least, not in the same ways. } Losing still stings. Everything is a competition to her. However, Phoebe Krum is not going to pursue Quidditch simply because she excels in it. She wants to actually . . . be . . . happy . . .
What does happiness even look like for a girl whoโs been dripping in black and eyeliner since she was thirteen? Look, she couldnโt help but bring some of the London-goth-inspired scene to Hogwarts. Anything to prove she was no ordinary witch. Phoebe Krum thrives on people being afraid of her. She likes that air of infamy and mystery that clouds a room long after sheโs gone. She wants people to talk: not about her last name, not about her Quidditch, but about her. Her authentic self. Sure, the gaudy look was a little forced at first, but now it comes as natural as breathing. It might be considered overkill by many, and frankly, theyโd be right. Phoebe Krum ๐ฒ๐ผ outrageous. Why should she stop herself? Especially when itโs harmless. Merlin knows not all of her exploits have been; not with the ๐ฃ๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐ ๐พ๐ฒ๐ซ๐ซ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป doing anything in its power to mess with Hogwartsโ students.
Dating one of the most popular boys to ever grace those Halls was never part of her master plan. Future { witchy } engineer-astronauts donโt make it to space riding on the rockets of romance and dreams. Pheobe Krum was supposed to be a distraction-free woman with a mission. What was she, a Muggle cheerleader throwing herself at the feet of the American football captain { like in the movies she swears she has never seen before }? It was a mistake. She always knew it was going to be like this; she always knew it was going to end. And yet, Phoebe Krum took the chance anyway. He made her ๐๐ช๐ท๐ฝ to want those things: the picket fence, the giggling children, the steady job that most certainly stayed in this atmosphere. But it was too good to be true. It was too normal to be right for her.
James always said he had no plans to go to university, whereas Phoebe Krum happily stayed at her Alma Mater for university. It is a prestigious institution. She knows her way around. She knows how to succeed. And no curly-haired, gap-toothed, wide-eyed boy would be trotting around after her. Not after that messy break-up. Now that heโs gone, she couldnโt be happier. Now she can finally focus on the things that matter. No more distractions, right?
Because maybe twenty years ago, the little angel was never supposed to exist. But for better or for worse, sheโs here, and sheโll be damned if she goes down before the whole world knows her name. Not her last name. Not her fatherโs name. They will all remember the girl with the jet-black hair and the glare more piercing than an arrow for exactly who she is: ๐๐ฑ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฎ ๐๐พ๐ฌ๐ด๐ฒ๐ท๐ฐ ๐๐ป๐พ๐ถ.

โ โ Only wears mismatched earrings. It doesn't matter if the set is perfectly accessible to her. She will always have her seven { four on the left, three on the right } piercings full of an array of different ones.
Knows how to skateboard, and her Quidditch skills certainly make her even better. However, that didn't stop her from magically enchanting her board to make her even better. Not that she really uses it that much these days.
Has a multitude of plants that she is very, very talented at keeping alive. And also the people who claim she does not have a nurturing bone in her body. They can suck it too.
Phoebe was one of the very first of her year to come out as pansexual. She has always radiated confidence. It was not in her nature to hide it once she knew who she was. But, especially being fairly young and so comfortable with herself, she was hit with a lot of the stigmas. Phoebe has been known to dress very provocatively. She flirts freely, and she is always a seductive tour de force when dancing at parties. People love to spread rumors about her exploits. Going home with someone. Coming back. Then going again with someone new. Threesomes. Even foursomes. But she is a bit like Olive Pendergast from Easy A in the sense that she lets people say whatever they want. The truth is that Phoebe is a virgin. Yes, even after her torrid affair with James.
That's actually a bit of a sour spot for him. It's not like he ever forced anything on her. All that ๐ธ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ผ๐ฝ๐พ๐ฏ๐ฏ that they did together was 100% consensual. However, Phoebe only wants to have sex with someone she is absolutely in love with. { Plus, given her own background, she's scared shitless of getting pregnant too young. Although she is very pro-choice, she's not sure if she could do it herself. } She'd like for it to be the person she spends the rest of her life with. Even after James said those three little words, Phoebe couldn't say them back. And all of her hesitancy made him doubt himself over and over again. He would lay out her heart and emotions for her. Give her anything. And it felt like getting nothing in return. Phoebe was always clearly holding out for someone else. This mysterious person she is "meant to be with." The fact that she didn't think it was him festered from a small worry to a gaping wound, and it ultimately blew into other problems that drove the couple apart.
โ โ Those who donโt know why Phoebe dated him in the first place underestimate how safe he makes people feel. In a crazy world where people lie and scheme and backstab and leak secrets to James is honest. Although Phoebe had the blessing of growing up without her fatherโs fame suffocating her childhood, her joining the wizarding world has hit her with the full force of curiosity. Everyone wants to see if Krumโs daughter can be the same kind of prodigy. Everyone expected something from her. Nobody understood that kind of attention better than him. It had been following him for his entire life.
Phoebe was the one to end it. James just is . . . always there for people. Even when she knew he was thinking about it, she could equally see how guilty he felt. He did still love her. She admired how much he wanted to fight for them. And yes, she accidentally did let that harsh phrase slip out in the moment.
