URSTYLE's Favorite Looks from 2019 Cannes Film Festival

  • Shortly after the Met Gala comes another high-powered fashion spectacle; Cannes Film Festival. Celebrities from all over the globe flock to the south of France for the premieres of some of the most highly-anticipated films of the year, as well as a number of charity events. Over the week-and-a-half duration, attendees might attend more than a dozen red carpets and they have to make sure to wow the press at each. Many of the looks worn to these events are custom, if not couture. What they all have in common is how stunning they are.

What were your favorite looks from Cannes 2019? Read on to see some of ours!

There’s a reason Aishwarya Rai has been hailed the Queen of Cannes. What could possibly follow her metallic Jean-Louis Sabaji gown from the day before? This ethereal Ashi Studio couture gown, of course!

Living coral may be the Pantone Color of the Year, but it can be tricky to style. Aja Naomi King makes it look easy here in this Zac Posen gown. She also cleverly matched the dress’s embroidery to her Messika jewelry for a perfect pairing.

Not content with just making history as the youngest ever juror at Cannes, Elle Fanning stole the red carpet scene as well. She delivered a never-ending stream of looks in Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, and Reem Acra, but it was this custom Christian Dior couture ensemble that really wowed us.

Guan Xiaotong’s red carpet looks at Cannes ran the gamut of lovely pastel colors. This Atelier Versace gown was a particular standout with its full, embroidered print skirt and crystal-covered bustier.

Showing us fashion has no age, and neither does fun, Helen Mirren wowed in this champagne-colored Ellie Saab couture number. She paired it with a (temporary) cotton candy pink hairstyle for a playful twist.

Jasmine Tookes brought the sun out for the evening affair that is the amfAR Gala. The marigold, goldenrod, and calla lily ombre of the fabric, combined with the petalled cut, gave it a particularly floral feel.

Another unexpected red carpet look! This white suit with billowing cape sleeves was completely open in the back, which Josephine Skriver used as a chance to highlight a spectacular pendant necklace by Flavia Vetorasso.

Red carpets can be a pretty monochromatic affair, but that wasn’t the case here. Newly-minted Victoria’s Secret Angel, Leomie Anderson was absolutely stunning in this custom Rami Kadi couture gown made in a literal rainbow of glass beads.

With iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld’s recent passing, many Chanel muses attended Cannes in archival pieces in tribute. Marion Cotillard wore this custom two-piece number, which was inspired by Chanel’s Spring 1999 Couture collection.

Natasha Poly was one of the models featured in the most recent Atelier Versace lookbook and campaign, so it’s no surprise when she appeared at the amfAR Gala in one of the dresses from that collection. This hooded number in powdered blue was a particular standout on the event’s red carpet.

At the “Rocketman” premiere, Sara Sampaio showed us suits can be so much more than your standard black tie affair. The look included not only Swarovski crystals and mirrored sequins, but a sizable train as well.

Like Sara Sampaio's above, Sonar Kapoor’s all-white tuxedo included a train as well. The suit was a custom creation by Ralph & Russo based on a modified look from their Spring 2019 couture collection and was paired with an impressive emerald necklace by Chopard.
