MET Gala 2019: the fancier looks on the Red Carpet

  • MET Gala is one of the most glam red carpets of the year, probably as glam as the Oscar's one. And yesterday, it was MET Gala night! Lots of celebrities participate in this important charity event - MET Gala is fundraising for the Costume Institute of Metropolitan Art Museum in New York. Every year MET has a theme inspired by the Museum's spring exhibition; this year, the theme was Camp: the artistic, ironic, theatrical sublimation of bad taste. So, you can imagine how eccentric the stars' looks o the red (well, actually pink) carpet were!
Today we'd love to share with you our favourite looks: don't forget to let us know what do you think about them with a comment!

    A real-life princess
Zendaya amazed everyone turning herself into a beautiful Cinderella: her light blue Tommy Hilfiger dress, with some help from her fairy godmother (the stylist Law Roach), literally lit up! And we loved the result!

    Zac Posen 3D sculptures
Among the most stunning and eye-catching looks on the red carpet, there were no doubt Nina Dobrev and Jourdan Dunn. They both worn a Zac Posen x GE Additive x Protolabs gown which were not made with typical fabric stitched together, but built and cured by 3D printers. The result? Two glass sculpture-looking gown: Nina Dobrev's was a super-short clear bustier, Jourdan Dunn's was a blossoming rose petals gown.

    The Hadid Sisters
Bella and Gigi are no doubt two of the most-requested fashion models of the world. As always, they rocked the red carpet with lots of sparkles! Bella picked a black Moschino dress with deep cut-outs around the hips and the hems completely covered by crystals and gems, paired with elbow-long black gloves covered by eccentric gems bracelets. Gigi instead chose Michael Kors catsuit and cape, both completely covered in silver crystals and paillettes, and paired with extra-long, white lashes, and arrived on the red carpet together with Michael Kors himself.

    The Kardashian-Jenner Squad
If there is someone who can totally turn any kind of bad taste garment into a work of art, this someone must be a part of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Nevertheless, Kim, Kendall and Kylie rocked the Met Gala annual theme. Kim arrived on the red carpet with a nude wet-look Mugler dress which wrapped her body like a (hot) glove. The Jenner sister both wore Versace: Kendall went for the orange with chevron-patterned crystal embroidered dress paired with a matching feather trim; Kylie wore a purple strapless mermaid silhouette gown with a chain skirt made with Swarovski crystals and matchy feather trim.

    The elegance of dusty pink
Delicate and feminine, dusty pink is a warranty of elegance. And, talking about elegance, we must mention Anna Wintour, the legendary fashion icon and Vogue director who was stunning in her Armani privé floral-embellished gown with a pink and black feather cape. Lucy Boynton instead wore a degradé pale pink and pale grey Prada dress, embellished with metallic paillettes, Swarovski crystal and cut glasses, paired with matchy-matchy grey hair. Finally, the model Taylor Hill wore a very simple (and probably because of this, very elegant) pink bustier satin dress, paired with feather stole and elbow-long gloves.

    Floral details
There is no red carpet without (a lot of) floral looks! At the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York, we can observe how many ways floral can be worn. Let's start with Huma Abedin, who wore a sparkling Oscar de la Renta yellow gown embroidered with colorful profiled flowers and with a red tulle hem: she is the portrait of the classical floral beauty at a gala. The Victoria's Secret Angel Lily Aldridge wore her bustier floral gown in a very different way, layering it with a latex long-sleeved high-neck top. Josephine Skriver, another beautiful VS Angel, went for a Jonathan Simkha asymmetric gown with 3D flowers, a classic dress made contemporary thanks to the pairing with matchy boots. Last but not least, Alexa Chung showed the world one of her own brand's creations: a sparkling pale yellow mini floral dress with furry hem, paired with a matchy french beret and matchy sheer wedges.

    Ruffles Everywhere
Together with florals, ruffles are another style that can't be missed on red carpets. Emma Roberts wore the best ruffles of the Gala: a Giambattista Valli tulle rose dress paired with delicate flowers in the hair. The supermodel Doutzen Kroes chose a brighter shade of pink: her fuchsia lace asymmetric dress made her stand out on the pink carpet. Charli XCX, at her first Gala, was even bolder: her neon yellow asymmetric gown was breathtaking, especially paired with her red ombre hair and makeup. Still ruffles for Julienne Moore, which never gets old, as well as the style of the creator of her dress - Valentino. And shall we talk about the marvellous Sofia Sanchez and her stunning Mango dress? Curiously, Mango is the name of the brand, the inspiration and the color: the taffeta ruffled gown evokes the colours of the fruit, the bag is a fruit, the earrings are leaves. Finally, Wendy Murdoch amazed the red carpet with her ruffled and feathered long gown which evoked the coral reef.

    Metallic details
Lots of golden and silver looks captured all the eyes on the MET Gala red carpet: from Emily Bluntand her golden Michael Kors sequined dress, to Gemma Chan and her crystal silver Tom Ford Gown, paired with a crystal headpiece; from Regina Hall, who rocked a pink hairstyle and a bee-inspired golden gown, to Emma Stone, who showed her loyalty to Louis Vuitton by wearing a sequined silver jumpsuit.

    Black and whites
As well as florals, black and white open to endless possibilities of style. So if Margaret Qualley can wear white polka dot dress looking extremely classy, chic, delicate, Gal Gadot can wear the same color to create a contemporary feminine look, thanks to Givenchy white lace dress and black lace over-the-knee boots. Poppy Delevigne went for a classic elegance, thanks to her Dundas black and gold jumpsuit paired with a gold extra-long coat. Last but not least, the VS Angel Stella Maxwell found the perfect dress for her: a Moschino black transparent dress embellished with stars (by the way, "Stella" is the Italian word for "star") paired with a furry mantle.

    The Camp-est looks
Finally, we couldn't close our selection of MET Gala looks without mentioning the stars of the red carpet. lady Gaga and Katy Perry. They don't just have the best voices: they are also known because they make people talk about them at each event they take part in. And this MET Gala is no exception. lady Gaga arrived in an enormous hot pink gown, escorted by a whole entourage of men in black. and, as a matrioska, he started taking off her gowns: under the pink one, there was a black, slightly smaller one. Under that, another hot-pink bustier dress, which was removed to show black lingerie. Katie Perry instead arrived dressed up as a...chandelier: Jeremy Scott made for her a little dress embellished with crystal with chandelier arms all-around her waist.
