Gallery Wall interior advice
-
Hey all, This trend of many artworks on the wall is hot in the interior world lately. Read on to get help on mastering this style.
1- pick a colour theme-
Choosing a colour palette for each piece going on the wall helps them all go together. It looks super cohesive. If there was too many colours it would look extra busy.2- lay it on floor before putting on wall-
You can move each piece around if it's on the floor first. Lay each piece of art on an empty floor. Then stand back. See if the colours are balanced. Try mixing up different sized pieces for a museum feel.3- figure out what wall the gallery is going on-
Will the gallery be going up or down a staircase, on a shelf, behind a tv or bed.....
Look at the wall and see what furniture is around it. Then pick the shape the gallery is going to be to get the best out of your space.4- Style of frames is important-
There's 3 ways to pick your frames that are most common.- Use same colour for each frame but each frame is different shapes and design.
- pick 3 colours for your frames. Paint or collect frames in the desired hues and scatter them around your gallery.
- use the exact same frame for each art. Perfect for minimal or modern styles.
5- Think of other items in your room-
Wil your gallery clash or compliment your room? Maybe you can match the furniture in colours you use, or any other decor pieces you have. Like this photo where the artwork is similar to the pattern on the cushion. It doesn't have to match exactly. Without some sort of cohesion the gallery is going to look out of place.
Another example of furniture to be mindful of:
6- What is the wall background like?-
The wallpaper or wall colour is going to affect your gallery. if there's a wallpaper behind your frames you can take a colour that's in the pattern into the gallery. A neutral shade is easiest to build a gallery on. No need to worry if colours compliment.
colour match tip:
Before picking your art try taking a piece of paper painted the same colour as your wall or sample of the wallpaper.
Then hold it behind your art piece before deciding if it will go well on your wall.7- How much wall do you want covered?-
You can do a section of the wall or fill all the wall. It's up to you. The more you fill the smaller your room could feel. Tiny art all over the wall is exciting to look at. However, it can be very chaotic and claustrophobic. Especially if the room isn't very large to start with. Think of the atmosphere you wish to create.8- Think of theme for the art-
A theme really helps your room look stylish. It helps to have a theme when picking your art or iems on the wall. Keep one in mind when you are shopping. Even abstract can be a theme. Just be creative with it and express whatever makes you (or your family), happy.9- mix in non canvas /framed art pieces-
Not everything has to traditional art. Try plaques, mirrors, letters, souvenirs ... be as creative as you can.10- gallery quick tips-
Not all pictures need to be 100% matchy matchy just look good together.
Be creative and play around till you're happy.
Add character.
Mix up the frames or how you are putting up your wall art. (e.g. canvas, shape of frame, colour of frame)If you enjoyed this post:

I have helped many of my clients put art groupings on the walls in their homes. It is an awesome way to showcase your family photos.
