Switching up your style (without buying whole knew wardrobe)

  • Hey, this post is going to share some tricks to change your style. Maybe you wish to become more edgy, dress more grown up, take on a vintage look.
Whatever style you wish to achieve, you can do so adopting these ideas:
(I'm using members outfit sets as examples for each idea)

    -mix pieces for different occasions-
Don't think one piece has to be worn for just one event. For example these gym/sporty shorts can be worn casually everyday. These shorts turn the outfit from an alternative grunge look to a more tomboy style. You could take items you wear only for going out in evening for chic day wear. Or take a smart dress and make it more casual/feminine with oversized knitwear.

    -new colour combinations-.
Look at your current clothes and wear them together differently. Try matching colours together you never have tried before. If you want to be more grown up try classic pieces together. Like the shorts and floral blouse in the example set. If you wish to be more alternative/rocker style add darker pieces together with other colours. For more girly or feminine styles pair brighter or pastels together. You can add dark with light/bright colours in any style. It's the dominate shades that will help you determine your look.

    -add a graphic tee-
A t-shirt with a design on it can show people what you are into. The top in this set turns a chic look into a more vintage one. A casual outfit can be changed with only one top. Instead of getting whole outfit just switch the t-shirt. Basic jeans that most people own is great for this change up. If you wish to be more vintage for example look for clothes with images from the past. Such as old logos, polaroid style photos and bands tees that are not from current tours.

    -type of shoes-
You can get a different look with one pair of shoes. A chunky shoe for alternative looks or some mary janes for vintage styles or trainers/sneakers for street wear. (only examples of shoe styles so you get an idea of my point) You can wear a plain outfit but, if the shoes are a feature you can look less basic. For example this set could be a casual outfit but with heels it's more grown up and feminine.

    -Change your jewelry-
A different necklace or earrings can switch up a style. This set for example shows a girly dress, with a choker its become more grunge. Simple necklaces are chic/more grown up and larger statement ones are bold and can be added to boho looks. A plain tee can gain a different look with jewellery on top.

    -diy pieces-
Ok this set doesn't look DIY'd. Of course think creatively. You can get a pair of jeans and embellish them. For this set diy effect adds ruffles to your jeans hem. Or cut 2 blouses/tops and sew them together for a different look. Great idea for punk or alternative styles. You can get new looks by being clever with your sewing. Even a simple rip or applique can change an entire outfit.

    -wear items in new ways-
By this I mean not in the standard way. Wear pieces in new ways. For example in this set you could take the scarf and wear it as a headscarf. Turn a casual look into a boho one. You could wear a chic long pencil skirt as a dress by adding a belt under your bust and raising g skirt over your bust. Think of new ways to tie a belt. Such as give it a knot. Roll sleeves or pant legs up. Tie a shirt around your waist.
There's so many ways you can mix up your style doing this. Be creative. Pinterest has lots of options you can try out.
