A constant ray of sunshine pretty much 24/7; a very good listener; running in high heels of any sort (and outrunning you while she's at it); easily makes connections with other people because of her friendly, outgoing nature; fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Shanghaiese, and English; surprisingly good with animals and gets great grades in her Care of Magical Creatures classes; also surprisingly good at charms relating to do with changing the colors of things and transfiguring one material into another; peppy and optimistic pretty much all the time; always sees the good in others; tries her damndest to be helpful when she sees somebody struggling; very energetic; also very loyal to her friends and/or people in general (but not so much ideas); she was a flyer for her American magic school's cheer team, making her nimble, flexible, and lithely strong (and also capable of throwing handsprings and saltos like nobody's business); good at adapting to change; spunky and spontaneous; always remembers your name; will usually text back immediately

Ya girl is FAILING her 2nd-year Potions class; not really book-smart at all to be honest; just can't shut up (which, according to anyone you ask, is her worst trait); shallow and superficial, especially when it comes to her looks; super extra; flighty and gets distracted very easily; erratic and inconsistent in her commitments; a messy bitch who lives for drama outside of her own friend group, but always tries to resolve any drama within her group (making her a HUGE hypocrite); not very practical when it comes to clothing choices (she's been known to wear miniskirts in 15 degree weather then hate herself for it, only to do the exact same thing the next day; kind of a shitty driver, despite the fact she can apply some bomb ass winged eyeliner while operating a motor vehicle; loves to gossip, and she's not great at keeping secrets, either; has the attention-span of a goldfish; shallow and superficial at times; frivolous and silly; not-so-great at magic in general because her memory is shit and she can't remember spells for the life of her; tends to brush off or make excuses for her friends' toxic behavior; always seeking the approval of the people she surrounds herself with; a bit of an attention whore; she was good at cheer in high school but now her lower back and knees kind of kill her everyday; hella clueless/oblivious (many jokes go straight over her head, tbh)

At a first glance, Steph is unnecessarily focused on small, overly specific details and unbearably girly. She is bubbly and outgoing (some might say too outgoing), and her friendly, cheerful disposition is well-liked by her peers, even if they do make fun of her for her propensity of wearing high heels everywhere she goes. Though Steph can be very prissy and a bit shallow or superficial, she doesn't have a single mean bone in her body. She can talk about anything and everything for hours on end. Some tend to find this incessant chatter exceedingly irritating (read: she is completely unaware of), which Steph is not always the most aware of. She is very optimistic and a kind and sweet person at heart, and she refuses to be cruel to other people as a general principle. Even when she gossips (and she is an incorrigible gossip), Steph doesn't mean it in a malicious way. Of course, it probably doesn't come off that way to everyone else.
If Steph is not always aware of how much she talks, she is aware of the feelings and thoughts of others. Steph is naturally people-smart and is good at picking up subtle hints that indicate shifts in emotions in others, though she's quite oblivious when it comes to most things (and really sucks at picking up on the severity of situations). She's a very good listener and always willing to offer comfort to other people. Empathetic, understanding, and nonjudgmental (well, on anything besides someone's taste in fashion, that is), Steph is open and accepting. She has an infernal inability to keep her mouth shut on things that don't really matter.
Despite her rather silly tendencies, Steph is a natural-born diplomat and compromiser, capable of expertly mediating tense situations without entirely realizing what she's doing. Armed with a firm belief in common courtesy and an ability to extend her compassion to anyone she meets, she is able to get even the most stubborn of people to agree to things through the application of hot drinks and sugary treats and pure politeness. She has a breezy, brisk way of going about her business, and she is remarkably good at keeping track of and managing people, for all her frivolous, sparkly ways. Finally, although Steph comes off as super bubbly and optimistic, she is also plagued by her own insecurities-namely, the fact that she's only at the Institute because her mom and dad bought her way in. She's well-aware that she's probably very, well, average in terms of her magical abilities, but she also doesn't have the drive to try to improve, because that's!!! Not!!! What she wants to do with her life!!!!
And what does Steph want to do with her life, then? Well, that's not something that even Steph herself is particularly sure of. But she's too flighty and erratic to figure it out on her own, so she just...hasn't.

Steph comes from old money-her family was allegedly very close to the regime of Jiang Jieshi, in some capacity that Steph can't be bothered to care about, and her grandparents left the mainland for Taiwan in 1949, where they continued the family business (which had both magical and not-so-magical dimensions) and grew substantially richer than they already were.
Steph herself was born in Taipei, where her father owned multiple high-end apartment complexes and her mother served as a prominent official in the magical governing body for all of East Asia. However, after a series of witch hunter attacks occurred within the East Asian magical council's jurisdiction, her family moved to Potomac, Maryland, so that her mother could serve as an ambassador for the East Asian magical council within Western magical circles.
To be frank, Steph found Potomac to be unbearably boring. It was just huge houses with driveways that were half a mile long. She preferred the hustle and bustle of D.C., where she ended up going to school. Her parents insisted on enrolling her in the D.C. equivalent of the Mei-Li Institute (if slightly less prestigious), and like, school was fine, but it wasn't her favorite thing in the world. Steph would have much rather been messing around with her friends than going to class.
It was also her parents who insisted that she attend the Mei-Li Institute. Blah blah, best magic school in the world, blah blah, learning new things, blah blah blah. Steph was in no position to tell them no-what was she going to do, try to go to a human college when her entire transcript was literally just her flunking out of 'Introduction to Spell-Casting'?-and besides, she had heard some great things about Singapore. Of course, Steph's academic record wasn't exactly...exemplary, but that was fine. Her parents had more than enough money to send her to the Institute.
On her first day at the Institute, Steph met Sheba Shang, who is probably her best friend in the world. Though 99% of the entire school is lowkey highkey terrified of Sheba, Steph doesn't see what the big fuss is about. Really, Sheebs is so fun! And she's the bestest most smartest person in the world! Plus she has the most lovely hair-Steph would die to have hair that could hold pink hair dye the way that Sheba's does.

𝓛𝓲𝓴𝓮𝓼: flowers and floral print (Steph is obsessed with flowers, for some obscure reason that even she is not entirely sure of), sushi, red bean baozi, watermelon and watermelon juice, short, ruffled/pleated skirts, crop tops, tank tops/spaghetti strap tank tops, sundresses, the smell of old books, sweets and sugary drinks, blueberry juice, organization, sparkly gel plans and colorful planners, high heels, choker necklaces, make-up, shopping, hoop earrings, cute clothes in general, strawberry milkshakes, strawberry anything, tumbling, cheer, glitter/sparkles, pop music (especially of the "trashy" variety), she's a basic bitch and loves the Starbucks Pink Drink, Chinese period dramas (because the outfits are so gorgeous), her hot-pink car, her younger brother (Kevin), social media, anime magical girls will always hold a special place in her heart, animals, dancing/clubbing, mainstream K-pop (because, again-she's a basic bitch), PINK!!!, bright colors in general
𝓓𝓲𝓼𝓵𝓲𝓴𝓮𝓼: boats (she gets horribly seasick), hamburgers, disappointing other people, people who think she's stupid because she likes gossiping and make-up, plain steamed buns (a staple of Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine, yes, but she likes them with raisins), messy notes, drab clothing in subdued colors, ruining her hair/clothes/make-up, bitter melon (a Chinese thing. Don't ask), the smell of cigarette smoke, big dogs (but only when they slobber all over her. Big dogs are fine as long as they stay far, far away, ya feel?), disorganization, rainy days, long plane rides, racist/sexist people, when Kevin is being an annoying piece of shit, dumb frat boys who just don't know how to stop, being forced to sit still, homework (ugh. Don't even get her started on all the reading she has to do for her classes), not so great at chemistry
