They all grew up together and went to Sunset Academy. They went to rival state schools like University of Florida (UF) (5hr~ drive or an hour flight) or Florida State (FSU) (7hr~ drive, but they’d fly). Or they stayed home and went to the private, local University of Miami (UM). Unless stated, they didn’t have to go to school or grad school at all. They are either related to R+J or detectives on the case who know their siblings.

Josefina* Santoro, 26 {GEN II, Class of 2010}
OCCUPATION: Stay-at-home mom, her brother’s “accountant”
RELATIONS: Romero and Dan’s older sister. Best twinmates with Joaquin. BFFs with Rachel* since rooming in college. Frenemies with Sasha (childhood friends; they were neighbors). Close friends with Reesha* since she started dating Joaquin three years ago, and Lexi since high school.
FACTS: UM alumni. Has a twin brother, but most resembles her mother. In high school, she was known as the “mother” to Sasha, Lexi and Rachel* because Josefina* was a grade above them. She often invited her younger friends to the best upper class parties, which is how Sasha and Joaquin started talking. Compared to her brothers, Josefina* best dealt with her mother’s death; she’s one to suffer in silence. Frenemies with Sasha ever since her breakup with Joaquin - Josefina* blames Sasha for his OD in college. Married to a lawyer she met at UF who eventually gets involved with the case. Pregnant with her first child. Unsatisfied with her life. Hates Joaquin’s “side” job and only helps him keep track of everything because if he goes down for dealing, so does she. But she mainly tags along to make sure Joaquin isn’t using anymore. Very close to her father so it’s difficult to hide that Joaquin is still dealing. She’s Romero’s favorite sibling, so he may have told her things he didn’t tell anyone else.

OCCUPATION: Mrs. Verdone’s younger partner who she calls, yes, Sherlock
RELATIONS: Joaquin Santoro’s childhood best friend. Good friends with Sasha and Sergeant Mikayla Verdone and the whole KBPD team. Hooking up with Lexi since college; also knows Kellan from college.
FACTS: UM alumni. Pretty well-off and making a name for himself. Known for his nice bachelor lifestyle, which includes a condo on the beach. He and Joaquin stopped talking when Joaquin briefly went to FSU. After reuniting through the case, they start trying to become friends again, but Joaquin will soon learn that Hot* is FWB with Sasha, Joaquin’s high school sweetheart. Joaquin will then hate him naturally despite being engaged to Reesha*.

Was hooking up with Lexi during their college years, but both have since been too busy to reconnect, although neither of them have officially “ended” the hookup...which may cause some tension between the two of them and Sasha. Sherlock here is the one who finds all the big clues about where R+J went because he goes Big and Beyond to get answers - especially with Sasha fretting about Julia in the office. If he wasn’t obsessed with his job, he and Sasha might actually be together but she joking brushes him off.

RELATIONS: Best friends with Joaquin and Lexi since high school. Started becoming good friends with Sasha again after joining the KBPD.
FACTS: Took a couple years off college to goof off, but came back to UM after deciding he wanted to be Chief of Police at KBPD. Shares an apartment with Lexi that they’ve kept since college. Is a real joker and many can’t take him seriously - it’s a wonder how he got accepted into the Academy and PASSED. Lowkey looks up to HotDetective* and tries to go above and beyond (even though he’s only a Rookie). Constantly tries to get Sasha and Joaquin back together. Throws epic parties and can really handle his booze. Fell off the rails and becomes a suspect after being the FIRST to get in contact with R+J; instead of bringing them back, he accepted a juicy bribe from them in order to keep his mouth shut!

RELATIONS: Ironically, Lexi introduced Reesha* to Joaquin and now the two are engaged after dating for three years (they met the summer of 2015). Friends with Lexi and Mr. Verdone, who work at Sunset. Old college roommates with Sasha Kowalski (Julia’s older sister). Close friends with Josefina* ever since she started dating Joaquin. Good friends with Rachel* who she reunited with at a yoga class they attend twice a week (they were acquaintances in high school).
FACTS: FSU Alumni. She was roommates with Sasha their junior year. Sasha would’ve failed that year if Reesha* didn’t wake her up every morning; they didn’t keep in touch. Julia’s favorite teacher. Julia often confided in Reesha* and now Reesha* feels guilty for not possibly going to the school guidance counselor for help. Feels she might’ve given Julia ideas about taking chances and possibly ignored signs of depression...Lexi eventually rats Reesha* out and she has to either protect herself and her job or tell the truth. Becomes better friends with Rachel* when she becomes a suspect since Reesha* has her own suspicions about the Kowalski family (because she dislikes Sasha).

FACTS: UF Alumni. Very involved in R+J’s escape/disappearance because she sold things to them at the store but didn’t realize she was helping them. Along with Josefina*, she feels like she wants more action in her life, hence her getting into the case more than she probably should. Finds herself more suspicious with authorities when she starts helping Samira*, her younger sister, hide her own secrets about Julia Kowalski. Becomes better friends with Reesha* when Rachel becomes a suspect since Reesha* has her own suspicions about the Kowalski family (because she dislikes Sasha).

In a friend group with both Alisha* Verdone and Leo* Kowalski. Leo and Dan are disagreeing over a lot lately, especially since Leo has recently started smoking weed and buys from Dan’s older brother, Ro.
FACTS: Has a crush on Alisha* Verdone. Hates and is afraid of drugs/alcohol because of stories he’s overheard Joaquin & Romero tell. He’s nothing like his cool siblings and this upsets him. Struggles succeeding in school, unlike his siblings, who didn’t have to try. His father constantly reminds him of this. LAST TO SEE ROMERO escaping Sunset Academy with a girl who wasn’t his girlfriend. Daniel hasn’t told authorities or even his father because he was only there to sneak in a classroom to take a pic of the answer key to a big test. Ro caught him and promised he wouldn’t snitch on Daniel if Dan didn’t say a word about seeing Ro leave - in a car that has yet to be tied to the missing pair. Now he must decide whether or not to keep the license plate a secret...

It’s starting to become difficult because he was kicked off the soccer team for missing practice to buy for his friends (and other reasons related to his new habits). LAST TO SEE JULIA who randomly gave him her favorite ??? before she left for prom. Super popular. Starts to crush on Alisha* Verdone when their families start trying to find R+J. Eventually finds out Daniel* likes her too, so he starts feeling pressure on whether he wants to tell Alisha* and ruin his friendship with Daniel, or whether to keep his mouth shut. Little does he know Alisha* has bigger secrets she’s keeping.

Has a crush on Samira which is why she was jealous of Julia and is happy that she’s gone.* Eventually she becomes suspicious to all because of this…She was going to come out before this shitshow but doesn’t see the point now (yet eventually the boys crushing on her might influence that). Romero did shock her, though. She was positive he was just high when he talked about running away with Julia. She didn’t think he actually had the balls to do it.

◦ Leonardo Kowalski : Leo, Ro, and Armani have been friends ever since, well ever since Romero introduced Leo and Armani. They’ve been inseparable. The trio rarely did anything without each other and if they did it probably wasn’t anything exciting. The bond they share is irreplaceable. Leo and Armani have always been at each others beck and call. They have never crossed the best friends line..omitting that one time in 8th when they were all playing 7 minutes in heaven with everyone. His spin landed on Mani and the things they did in that closet is history. He doesn’t know she practically in love with him.

◦ Alisha Verdone : Armani and Alisha are childhood friends. They met in preschool and it was quite cliche if Armani does say so herself. The lil stuck up girls were picking on Alisha. Alisha has always been a bit of a “tomboy” and none of the bratty preschool girls were approving. Well all except Armani. Armani jumped in and saved the day. She pushed the little brat down and called her a “meanie”. Oh yeah, kids talked about that day on the playground for days and that’s saying something since their attention spans are almost nothing. They are currently NOT friends. Drama is the key to all end of friendships..at least in this case it is.

◦ Rosaline “Rose” Verdone : Yeah, they are friends, but only because Armani wants to make Leo happy. She really does hate her guts. She’s everything Armani isn’t and it makes her furious. / I’ll fill in more once I’ve plotted with everyone!

◦ Samira Jones : Though Armani’s not the brightest student she does admire Samira’s attitude towards school. They are more acquaintances and classmates than friends. / I’ll fill in more once I’ve plotted with everyone!

Romantic History :

◦ Leonardo Kowalski : Ironic, right? Armani can’t help it though. She’s full of cliches. Why not add falling for her best friend to the list. She’s had a crush on him since the day they met in fourth grade. The only one who knows is..well was Romero. Everyone knows his attention isn’t on Armani, though. Armani made Romero promise not to say a word him. This may or may not be the reason Armani hates Rosaline.

◦ Vincent “Vince” Dane : He is on the football team...shocker, right? Armani has a crush on the quarterback. In her defense he is extremely attractive, even if he does have the nastiest attitude. For some unknown reason they have both caught each other’s attention. Vince seems to like Armani’s vicious tongue.

Armani is the most stubborn girl you will ever meet. She will always get her way and no one will stop her. She can win any and all arguments she has. She’s also not the friendly type. Her friends are her friends and if you aren’t one you’ll most likely get ignored. Armani is also the QUEEN of clap backs and roasts. She likes to think that it’s her special talent. She’s a modern day feminist and activist. Bigots are the number one targets of her roasts.

Bio :

Armani Cleveland is your typical skater junkie. She is proudly the best skater in her group of friends. She does smoke a TON of weed and it may have permanently damaged her brain cells. Weed or no weed, school is not the place for her. She absolutely detests waking up and going to a place with tests and people she can’t stand. She skips class more than she’s in it.

Likes :

Weed (duh) , hanging out with her friends ( this doesn’t include Rosaline..she can’t stand her) , being an only child , food..that girl can EAT , tea instead of coffee , the beach , girl days (she hasn’t had any since she stopped talking to Alisha) , the library (she’s actually a secret book nerd), watching leo skate (it’s just so attractive..she can’t help it!!)

[FAMILY]
Miguel Santoro: Josefina has and probably always will be closest to her father, and honestly she likely inherited her stubbornness from him. But above all, she was the one who tried to hold the family together after her mother’s death and she’s fully supported her father’s decision not to get back out on the dating scene
Joaquin Santoro: Even though she’d much rather be able to distance herself from Joaquin’s more unsavory activities, Josefina can’t because deep down she will always have that twin connection with him and can’t stomach anything truly bad happening to him. To the extent she’s allowed herself to get dragged into it all with the intent of trying to save him from it, as well as allowing it to fracture her friendship with Sasha. It isn’t that she thinks he can do no wrong. She fully accepts when he’s being an idiot, but she still doesn’t want anything happening to him.
Romero Santoro: Whereas she fully accepts her twin’s faults, Romero could actually do no wrong in Josefina’s eyes. She saw how their mother’s illness affected him and had wanted to protect him. Although there’s every possibility that she went about that the wrong way as it led to her having been told things about his intentions toward Julia and chose not to stop it. In some ways, the romantic side of her hoped that it would all work out. However, she didn’t approve of his dealing any more than she approved of Joaquin’s.
Daniel* Santoro: Josefina doesn’t particularly have as close a relationship with her baby brother as she does (did?) the others, by no fault of his own. Or hers, for that matter. She just doesn’t relate to how he is, although there’s the irony of the fact that he disapproves of the drug habits just as much as she does.
Grant Tyrrell (Gaspard Menier): Odds are no one would have expected the female heir to the Santoro line to have ended up with someone outside of their circle, yet from the first moment she had met Grant, shortly after choosing to attend UF after her degree from UM, she had fallen hard. Even though she regrets her decision to abandon her own law studies to be a stay-at-home mom, she still loves him with all her heart.

[FRIENDS]
Sasha Kowalski: The friendship between Josefina and Sasha began early, and all through school they remained close. Josefina was all too willing to allow her into her circles and fully wanted to see her blossom into the girl she believed she could be. Up until her brother’s OD, she’d supported that relationship as well, but afterward she fell into the trap of supporting her brother over her friend, convincing herself that Sasha was to blame and essentially refusing to accept the possibility that it wasn’t. Therefore, they haven’t truly spoken in years.
Lexi Verdone: Lexi was Joaquin’s best friend, and therefore that meant Josefina automatically trusted her. Plus, she acted as the mom friend toward Lexi just as much as she did to Sasha, supporting her however she could and introducing her to her own circle of party friends and such. However, that connection didn’t continue after high school even though they’d both ended up at UM because the other threads that bound them together weren’t there. New friendships happened, and while Josefina hasn’t forgotten Lexi by any means, she didn’t feel as close to her anymore, until Joaquin’s OD and now the subsequent disaster with Romero brought them back together.

[ROMANTIC HISTORY] During high school, Josefina had boyfriends but none of them were serious. It was rather inevitable that guys were drawn to her, but she never actually fell hard for anyone until she met Grant in law school.

[PERSONALITY-BIO] Ever since she was little, Josefina has always been a social butterfly. Everyone always told her she looked exactly like her mother had when she was young, and the little Josefina took that to heart. She was determined to be the perfect little socialite, determined and stubborn yet also always as elegant as it’s humanly possible for her to be. Things always came easy to her, whether it be academic or otherwise, and for a time it is possible she took that for granted. She naturally fell into the mom-friend position in her circle of friends (plus her twin brother of course), wanting everyone to reach for the stars.
It was just unfortunate that most of them, in her eyes, have failed in that, Joaquin especially. College was the test that she felt showed their true colors, yet even so, she’d nearly stumbled in her own studies when her beloved twin had the OD and ended up in rehab. A part of her soul was hurting, and she had to fight to stay above the surface. Yet it wasn’t a surprise to anyone, even those in her neighborhood who had always expected her to end up a trophy wife, when she chose to transfer from UM to UF to pursue further education. Deep down, hidden from even herself most likely, she might’ve known the need her family would have for a lawyer in the family, and rather ironically she did manage to provide that even as she ended up essentially fulfilling the prophecy of her childhood as she made the decision to abandon her own degree when she accepted Grant’s proposal and in everyone’s opinion giving up. However, no matter how much she believes that herself in her darkest moments (and there are many considering her siblings’ choices along with her own rather unadvised choice to support her twin not in his career at the car shop but in his other “job”) that she’s made a bad decision and should’ve continued wither own career, she loves her husband, her family, and her unborn child. She isn’t about to let any of them fall.

To put it simply, teenage drama is not Mr. Verdone's specialty but having fun and being a big ol' goofball is. Alisha could go back and forth with her father concocting an elaborate comedy story about how George Washington rose from the dead to assassinate JFK and that's really why there are so many conspiracies about it, gosh people! Get it right! But then Mrs. Verdone comes in and tells them to stop talking so she can finally go to sleep.

  While Mrs. Verdone may have loud (not screaming, no definitely not screaming) arguments with the other Verdone girls, she can always rely on Alisha to be her little baby. With goofy senses of humor and a penchant for playing with her daughter's hair, Mikayla and Alisha are close as can be, often having movie and cooking nights together. As the last child, maybe they went a little softer on Alisha, and maybe that's why she appreciates her mother so much more.

  The poor baby, the heartbroken angel who is distraught and confused and Romero! How could you do this? Alisha is there for her. Because of their opposite personalities when they were younger, the two began as not at all close but have now branched together to good pals, not the closest still because high school hormones are blooming and dealing with a sister constantly can be annoying, but they're getting there. Walking the schools as the kind girls of the Verdone fam, Alisha couldn't have asked for someone better to have movie nights and garden parties with but could do without so many screaming matches. Alisha has spent nights hugging her sister while also possibly getting a little information about what Samira thinks about the whole situation.

But that makes sense because, you know, Alisha's been looking at boys up until a fear years ago. Aside from her heart palpitations every time she sees this goddess, Alisha and Samira are finally close pals. Always friendly, casual friends, then good friends, Alisha has now finally taken Julia's spot in their friend group. She's a cool girl, they have a similar goofy sense of humor, and get along so well. If only Alisha thought feelings were reciprocated.

[ROMANTIC HISTORY]
With a few past boyfriends during her first two years of high school, kissing that boy reaffirmed something she was slightly scared was true - there is no way Alisha Verdone could kiss boys for her whole life. Something about them just made her vagina literally shudder in disgust. And so then it became clear: Alisha Verdone is gay and nothing can change that. It took her some time to think about it, to accept it, but then everything because clear - this is why her insides jump everytime she sees Samira Jones. But just as Alisha was planning to tell the whole existence of Key Biscaynem Florida, the duo in crime that is R+J preformed their grand disappearing act, leaving her revolution of sexuality to take a backseat. It wasn't time anymore. Something else was way more pressing. And Alisha wanted to be watched as she finally spoke the words to someone other than herself in the mirror, "I am gay, I like women and girls and ladies. I am gay." not simply side-listened to as her audience peered at their phones to see the latest discovery in the R+J case. No, Alisha's going to be, not hiding but, patiently waiting in the closet until it's her time to shine.

"I'm just not superficial guys." Alisha sends a smile over her shoulder and a twiddle of 'goodbye' with her fingers as she hears another questioning of how she doesn't know this compliment is true already collect in the pile of nice words behind her. A little smile to herself and her curls are bouncing as she walks - another self-confidence boost, oh joy.

Growing up, Alisha Verdone had always been cute but never this /cute/. With constant scratches on her knees from refusing to wear knee pads while skateboarding, this tomboy that was too adorable to take seriously in her baggy boys' pants and backward cap has now blossomed into a slightly romantically idealist girl that hangs out with the boys too much, but now here's her big break.

"Ros, I'm so sorry." She's been saying for days, laying her head on her older sister's back as she either sobbed into a pillow or fumed over the boy who had deserted her like the Sahara - not a trace of life to follow, not a whisper in the wind. And Alisha really does feel sorry. She's angry that this boy who said claimed love to her beloved sister could do something like this to her and so easily, in such a public manner. But at the same time, her heart is pounding like it's about to hop out of her (still growing!!) chest. Samira Jones! Samira Jones!! Aching and confused about where her friend has gone! And with one shoulder for her sister, Alisha has one more open for the confused best friend of the runaway bride (?? one of Alisha's wild suggestions). Well, Rosaline's a strong girl, she'll be fine, Alisha has two shoulders for Samira Jones to be upset on - she gets to take her pick.

With Julia out of the picture, the girl that Alisha has stared at from the side in math class for the past three years finally has an open spot in the group of people she spends the most time with. Always friends, never as close as they are now prior to the two renegades' scheme, Alisha goes home at the end of the day, after spending most of her school time with their shared group of friends, across the table from the most beautiful girl she has ever seen, and has to hold in her high pitched squeal of excitement she can barely control. A bit of a hopeless romantic, she hopes this turns out well. Through some miracle, she dreams that Samira Jones takes a look at her mind and body and stamps her token of love on it. But that's just her dreaming, she knows she needs to bring herself back down to reality.

Alisha's a pretty easy girl to like; Seemingly down to earth, on top of her game, and laid back, the soccer superstar goes out of her way to be kind and inclusive to all she meets. Growing up the youngest of three, each with big personalities, its natural that sometimes she wants the spotlight to herself but not with malicious or egotistic intent, just so she can be heard, listened to, understood. She's no dummy and occasionally prioritizes school over weekend adventures but now that she's got her fingers closer to Samira, we'll see how long that lasts. If you need a friend, she'll be there. If you need someone to understand, she'll be there. If you need advice, she'll be there. If you need a heart full of love for everyone to take a little from, you've found your girl.

Rose hates that her mother absolutely has to know everything that is going on in her life and if she doesn't she will find out. The two are birds of a feather - tough, but lovable - expect Rose's toughness often comes out as aloofness. They argue, pretty much like every other mom and teenage daughter, but as of late Rose just avoids any kind of interactions with her mother.

They are super close, but their relationship gets complicated after the several unfortunate events. Rose has always known that her sister has a problem and that is the extreme need to be in everyone's business. She tries to ignore it as much as possible, but as of late, she just can't.

Alisha Verdone | younger sister
Complete opposites; Rose constantly encourages her sister to come out of her shell and wear cuter clothes and show off her potential. Often times she may not give off that vibe, but the truth is Rose is incredibly over-protective of her baby sister and wants nothing but the best for her. And that includes avoiding any chance of getting her heart broken.

Rose should've seen it coming, but she didn't and now she's not only angry at herself, but at everyone else as well. She and Julia used to be as thick as thieves and what this that little backstabber do? Steal her boyfriend and ran off to somewhere.

They were so in love. Or so did Rose think. Before they got together, she used to have the biggest crush on him. The biggest! Used to chase him around like a little puppy, until she finally gave up and waited until he began chasing after her. It was bound to happen. The summer before sophomore year Rose finally grew past that awkward phase and it wasn't long before half the boys began developing crushes on her. But she had eyes for Romero and Romero only and because she gets everything she wants, not long after that they began dating. It's hard for Rose to admit, but she still loves him. And it hurts her that things between them had to end in the way they did.

[PERSONALITY-BIO]

• Very, very, very heartbroken over the whole situation. She thought that Romero and her were madly in love and mapped out this whole entire future for the two only for him to skip town with one of her best friends. Rose is at that point in her heartache where she's just angry all the time and hates everyone's guts and blames people for her misfortune.
• A tad bit spoiled - you can say that it's middle child syndrome, but Rose just likes having things go her way. Whether it's a simple school assignment of having her room decorated; everything must go exactly like Rose had planned it in her head. This doesn't mean that you should call her a control freak though, because just like her interactions with certain people, she too can get very messy.
• At one point in her life Rose was the family's little tennis super star - winning medals and trophies left and right until sophomore year when Romero Santoro finally returned her affections and asked her out. She'd never been the kind of girl to do things in order to have other like her more or impress them, but with Romero it was a completely different story. These days she comforts herself with the idea that she was foolish. Just a love struck teenager that finally got what she'd wanted for such a long time. Rose still regrets quitting tennis (her only stress relief at the time) and replacing it with smoking weed and long make out sessions.
• It's safe to say that at the very beginning she found Romero's friends to be.... boring? Plain? Uninteresting? Long story short, Rose hated that she had to share Romero with a bunch of people she had nothing in common with. But now that she stops and thinks about it, in the end there weren't many thing she and Romero had in common either. Well, other than their mutual love for weed... but she didn't start loving weed until after she met him!
• Alright, the real reason why Rose didn't like hanging out with Romero's friends was because they made her feel insecure. And no, not in the cliche, self-pitying way. Rose is very well aware of the affect she has on certain people. After all, she's incredibly attractive, but when you start digging deeper she's a bit hollow? Or is shallow a better way to describe the true nature of her personality? Hanging out with Romero and his ragtag group of stoned friends made Rose realize just how much she lacked in personality. Sure, being competitive is a strong personality trait but where's the empathy, the vigor, the sense of humor? Rose loathes the fact that she isn't as light hearted as the people that she slowly began to refer to as her friends.
• Enter the self coping mechanism aka the reason why oh so many people have referred to Rose as a heinous bitch. For some strange reason mentally comparing herself to others sort of works. It makes her feel a tad bit better even if it's for the shortest amount of time. (My boyfriend might've skipped town with one of my best friends slash rivals but I'm still prettier than half the people in this room) But, just because she does it all the time doesn't mean that she's particularly fond of it. As a matter of fact, this has slowly began to become one of Rose's top ten most hated personality traits (lacking sense of humor is number 2).
• Desperately wants to leave town the second she graduates. You see, Rose isn't a small town girl and frankly she doesn't understand those who have chosen to stay and live the most boring lives ever. She hates the nosiness and the mundane aspect of it. Each time she closes her eyes she sees herself working in a big city; preferably at her own fashion magazine. At one point she planned on sharing these dreams with Romero but now that he's gone she's gonna have to do it all by herself.
• Has a very close relationship with her sisters. She's incredibly overprotective of her youngest sister and the latest unfortunate events have made the situation even worse to the point Rose finds herself constantly giving Alisha unsolicited advice. Her mother is a hard cookie and maybe that's why she's turned out that way. The fact that Rose and her mother are so much alike doesn't help the situation at home. For the most part they get along but also happen to have the biggest arguments ever. On the other hand, her relationship with her father is the complete opposite. So very often Rose wishes she turned out more like him. Funny, interesting, carefree.
• The truth is Rose is as an emotional wreck as every other living being. She just doesn't want people to know that she's slowly breaking down, that despite what she says she misses both Romero and Julia terribly and if they are ever to return and shower her with apologies and expensive gifts and the best weed in town - she might just forgive them both and pretend as if none of that embarrassing thing ever happened.

[LIKES] pretty flowers, the color green, off-the shoulder tops, SNEAKERS, being showered with affection, veganism, tiny sunglasses, retail therapy, fresh manicure, Serena Williams, tennis, obscure 80s anime, oil paintings (just looking at them, not making them), reading her horoscope, her sisters, matte lipsticks, forehead kisses, being taken care of, romantic dates, scented candles, freckles.

[DISLIKES] ROMERO SANTORO!, having her heart shattered into million pieces, crying in public, her entire family treating her like she's made of glass, people who cuss too much, the smell of weed (she used to love it but it reminds her of that moron), Julia Kowalski, people thinking that she has something to do with them running away, the fact that half of her clothes and bed sheets still smell like that idiot, being ignored, break outs, animal cruelty, high heels, losing, not feeling good enough, the fact that she constantly needs to compare herself to others in order to feel better about herself, bruises, cheap whiskey.

[FACTS] Acting SUS, but really just doubting everything she knew. Crying on TheBoyBestfriend*’s shoulder, who she’s known since Pre-K. Samira* and Rose start hanging out again when Julia disappears and an old bet the three girls made when they were younger gets the attention of police.

They may do anything for each other when push comes to shove, but so far, they have never had to be anything but pleasant.

• While there was an all boy's school not far from Sam's boarding school, she was not often as interested in toying with its students as some of her other classmates. But Theo was different. He was a senior, the classic bad boy. Samira has always been a sucker for doing what she shouldn't. Theo fit the bill perfectly. They dated, smoked cigarettes, and had all kinds of reckless fun together. Then, when they cut getting caught a little too close, Sam dumped Theo just like that. She couldn't risk her plan to get away just for a pretty face that knew how to make her body tremble. Sometimes she worries about how easily she cut him out, about how easily she can be so cold and cruel...

[PERSONALITY-BIO] In a school of large families and blood loyalty, Samira often feels alone. After all, she only has her father and her older sister, Rachel. Their mother ran away when Sam was four years old, abandoning all three of them without a trace. Maybe that’s why this same situation with Julia and Romero hits her so hard. She thought Julia and she told each other everything, and now her heart is heavy with the weight of letting her down. Samira feels like there are so many warning signs she missed, so many opportunities to help Julia that she didn’t take… But there is also a huge sense of betrayal. Julia had been there through years of torment over her missing parent, all the questions of why and how. She knew how much it hurt people to be left behind. And she did it anyway. Now, with each of them fighting through the hole in their heart, Rose and Sam are drifting back together. It almost could feel like old times.

Of course, it has been years since Rose, Julia, and Sam were an inseparable trio. They liked to giggle too loud, stay up too late, and plot the most wonderful, rebellious futures they would have. Julia was always the voice of reason, Rosaline the face and glamour of any operation, and Samira the cheeky little mastermind. They dreamed of a day where their names would be splashed on the front page. For Julia and Rose, it was a fun fantasy and a daring dream. For Samira, it was all too real. It was a chance for her mom to see her face and maybe even come home. She never wanted to admit it to anyone, but she would have done anything to get her mother to return again. So she did.

It started small: shop-lifting, neglecting her school work, sneaking out. Then it spiraled out of control so much faster than she could have prepared for. Suddenly she was getting expelled and failing all of her classes, at the tender age of 14 no less. Her father yanked her out and sent her off to an all girl’s boarding school for two years. Samira never knew what hell was until she was trapped inside those walls.

So how did she get out and return to Sunset Academy?

When Samira left, everyone knew her as a charismatic girl that would have done anything for a good time. She may have picked on people outside of her friend group, but it never seemed to tarnish her popularity. She had an infatuating energy that made you want to tag along with whatever wild plan she whispered in your air. She was a bad girl personified, and she knew she had to change that image.

To her father, Samira raved about how reforming the boarding school was. All of her class marks were good, and not a single note tarnished her record. Sam pretended to be born again, and her dad -- who so desperately wanted to believe her -- fell right into the palm of her hand. When she went on about how much she missed him and Rachel, he caved and allowed her to return. And now, Samira is hell-bent on maintaining her new posh and respectable reputation. She may be even better at hiding the trouble she still gets into, and her mischievous laughter might still be a little bit too intoxicating...but on paper, she has turned into a flawless, maybe-even-Ivy-prospect girl next door. She has been saving money to get away from this place (and the fear of her father sending her away again) even since she returned, and her desperation for independence is only amplifying under the pressure, chaos, and destruction that Julia and Romero have left behind. With the police now snooping about in everything the Sunset students do, Sam might not be able to hold on to her new image much longer. Everyone may know the truth. But if her mother were to see it too, would it maybe be worth it?

[FACTS] Was suspicious of Julia but thought she just started smoking weed like everyone else and hiding it from her parents. Feels guilty and worried for her…Student Aide for the principal, Dr. Verdone. A suspect because her and Rose start hanging out again when Julia disappears and an old bet the three girls made when they were younger gets the attention of police. Starts to realize more about Julia’s past that might help lead authorities to her whereabouts...

[TIE TO R+J] Julia’s younger brother and the last to see her before she disappeared (and only after she left her most prized possession with Leo). Used to buy weed off of Romero, but never heard about him from his sister.

→ Leslie Kowalski & Matthew Kowalski / There was a lot to love about their son, their little lionhearted boy…always excelling in school & extra curricular. And yet, there’s been a sense of mistrust between Leo and his parents in the last few months, whether it be his expulsion from the Soccer team or his general shitty attitude, they have started to suspect that there might be something their son isn’t telling them. The ball is definitely in his court.

→ Julia Kowalski / Besides buying from her runaway lover, Julia and Leo were generally pretty close…well…maybe close isn’t the word for it. They were on speaking terms, sure, and would back each other up if Sasha or their parents caught each other in the midst of a lie…but there were plenty of secrets that neither would never know about the other.

[FRIENDS]
→ Alisha* Verdone / Will wait until characters have been selected.
→ Daniel* Santoro / As if their friendship wasn’t complicated enough, now the two of them have a crush on the same girl (“Oh how I miss high school drama” Leslie blurts from the next room).
→ Marcos Deltora / The new dealer. Looks suspiciously like the Kowalski patriarch though stranger rumors have floated around town. Slowly but surely takes Leo under his wing, but is generally not the kind of guy you want to get wrapped up with. (Louis Garrel)

[ROMANTIC HISTORY] 
→ Seriously crushing on Alisha, who is the first girl he’s ever been genuinely interested in (I guess it’s easier to find romance when you clear your schedule of most extra curriculars). Always trying to prove himself to her, but is generally pretty underwhelming all things considered.
→ Marcos has been introducing him to several girls in order to take his mind off of Alisha ("you win some, you lose some" he always says) but there's something about that damn Verdone family that keeps dragging him back.

[PERSONALITY-BIO] It is a perpetual mystery to the Kowalski family how the once chipper Leonardo turned into such a brooding mess. Since birth he was always known for being upbeat, excited to socialize and engage with the world around him. Little did he know that the terrors of weed were waiting just around the corner (DUN! DUN! DUUUN!). Leo always stood independent from his siblings, finding his own place amongst the hubbub and standing out here and there, mostly in Soccer, and staying out of the spotlight for the rest of the year. Recently though there's been a change, as he grew closer with his sisters boyfriend his grades dropped and an attitude started to twist his usually smiley face into a frown. But he didn't turn into a jerk overnight. With every decision that ends up out of his control frustration is growing and with his parents closing in, and life starting to pick up its pace there's a strong chance that life is gonna sweep this lad away.

[LIKES] weed, nice clothes, getting dressed up, skateboarding (though he's never been great at it), boxing, soccer, napping, Alisha, money, honestly anything a 16 year old fuccboi would like, frappuccinos (a guilty pleasure), pizza, having a snack lying around the house, eating, food, jerks, his record player, stealing records from his dad, swimming, dancing, ballroom etiquette (the one thing he actually got from his dad), sunset drives, beautiful girls, the idea of fame, dogs, animals, coffee.
[DISLIKES] when she isn’t impressed, driving oversized cars, school, lying to his parents (and yet he does it so damn well), Romero (Julia gets to disappear but the rest of the Kowalski kids get to deal with the aftermath), his sisters judgmental attitude, feeling like he's let his family down, cops, shopping, family bickering, fighting with his sister, assumptions about his family, Florida (and yet), travel, doughnuts, long boarders, creeps, when his dad tries to dish out life advice.

[FACTS] 
→ Has been smoking weed for about a year now and still can't handle it (god...so much coughing).
→ An extremely talented soccer player. Like...really good! He's never felt great at the game but he could easily have been scouted if he'd managed to stay on the team.
→ Thinks his sister is a major hypocrite, I mean if she can get away with crazy partying why can't he smoke a little weed here and there? (Because she had Reesha...and Leo has an enabler.)
→ He's obsessed with street style and frequently finds himself on instagram surfing fashion accounts, he's totally embarrassed by his obsession though and will punch you if you utter a word.
→ Likes to think he's nothing like his father but in reality, he's more like him then he knows. From his interest in photography (which he hasn't quite discovered yet), and his inevitable wandering eye he may have to turn to his father for help cleaning up his messes sooner rather then later.

⟶ ᴛɪᴇ ᴛᴏ ʀ+ᴊ Mayra was Julia's favourite teacher, and the one she would confide in with her deepest darkest secrets. Looking back, Mayra is worried she may have misinterpreted some of Julia's behaviour and maybe even some warning signs about her mental state. At the time, she had just become a mother and was, in all honesty, overwhelmed about her new role to think straight; any way you put it, though, she's definitely concerned something serious may have slipped between her fingers.

Sloane Willson, 50 || mother (fc: paulina porizkova)
Born and bred in Jacksonville, it was pure coincidence that she got to meet Damien and fall terribly in love with a painter who’s spent his entire life wishing to move into a smaller town where he can work peacefully without any distractions. When it came down to moving into Key Biscayne, Sloane’s life came apart quite quickly — on the one hand she was faced with the possibility that her family (in which she was the eldest of five daughters) would turn their back to her for marrying an artist instead of a lawyer, following the family tradition, while on the other she felt there was no life worth living without Damien. She eventually made up her mind and eloped, completely cutting the ties from her family, and fell pregnant around the very few days living in their new Key Biscayne home. Despite her wilder younger self, Sloane turned into a strict mother the moment Mayra came to life, subconsciously seeking revenge from her own upbringing traumas. And while Mayra was able to determine that at some point in her life and start exercising forgiveness, Sloane’s youngest daughter is permanently at war with her mother. In her everyday life, Sloane owns a bakery in town, but spends most of her time running the business from home, where she carefully watches Hayley’s every move.

Damien Willson, 53 || father (fc: henry czerny)
The coolest, most laid back father you’ve ever met. Damien has always had a way around his own children that was never imperative and punitive, but rather advisory. It was not unusual to invite either one of the girls to spend time in the studio with him while he was working, and casually drop a word of advice or quote that would “by chance” fit whichever situation his daughters were in. Unbeknownst to Mayra, Damien is well aware of what happened to her on the night of September 13 2009, and has tried many times to offer his help in the subtlest ways, but never knew how exactly to confront her about it. He just hoped and prayed time would heal that wound, but he is still unconvinced with regards to Mayra’s coping systems.

The revolutionary one out of the two, Hayley is a breathing walking riot. She may fool with her innocent looks and pretty face, but this girl is fierce and angry and has no idea what to do with all the bottled up feelings she’s gathered in her teenage heart. Weirdly enough, Mayra recognizes a lot of her sister’s struggles from when she was younger herself, and is actually terrified Hayley might get herself into big trouble without even knowing. Hayley came out as bi a year prior, and while her mother thinks it’s just a stupid phase, Mayra is starting to wonder whether her sister has any interest in boys at all.

Grace Santoro, 1 || daughter
Grace is quite literally Mayra’s top priority, first and foremost reason for staying alive and, admittedly, the last bit of hope that maybe she and Joaquin are going to be okay. There are few things that would make a stranger recognise Grace as Joaquin’s daughter, as she’s taken most of her features from her mother’s side, which has been vastly discussed about around town, various conspiracies surfacing.

⟶ ʀᴏᴍᴀɴᴛɪᴄ ʜɪsᴛᴏʀʏ: Mayra’s first boyfriend and, unfortunately, first love was Jake McCallan, one of the local high school’s “coolest” kids. He was rich and gorgeous and powerful among his peers and Mayra wanted to show off, even if that meant lowering herself to unprecedented depths under his pressure. The relationship was not only toxic, but one particular moment at the very beginning of it left Mayra with life-long panic attacks and night terrors. After managing to break free from Jake, Mayra left for university, where she casually dated Victor Rosmann, an foreign student doing aerospatiale aircraft engineering on a scholarship. Things were going good for them, although Mayra was awkward and slightly distant when it came to more intimate gestures, and at some point they were fantasizing about getting married at the end of university. However, something went terribly wrong with Victor’s visa and he was forced to leave the country after his third year of study. Finally, Mayra is currently dating Joaquin, whom she’s met through a mutual friend after having known of him for a while. Despite Mayra being convinced he is the love of her life and the man she would most like to spend her life with, the relationship has been rocky, with few signs of improving. Not only are his ties with Sasha affecting their lovestory, but Mayra is also growing worried about him still dealing, especially given his previous OD experience.

⟶ ᴘᴇʀsᴏɴᴀʟɪᴛʏ-ʙɪᴏ: Don’t be surprised if you hear Mayra saying Key Biscayne is her world. A small town girl through and through, she feels fidgety and alone in larger places, and was the only one in her family to sigh deeply when trips to Miami or Tampa were announced. She likes the comfort of a close knit community, and despite the small-scale crimes that happen in any other town, she feels safest in the comfort of her neighbourhood.
Ever since she was little, Mayra dreamt of becoming a teacher. There are multiple versions to this story, her mother insisting this urge came from all the time spent playing with baby dolls, while her dad would argue any day his daughter’s wish was always, above all others, to help others. For all she knows, Mayra has always been motivated by seeing others grow as people, and for that exact reason she went on to Florida State University to pursue a major in Elementary Education, which she graduated from in 2014. Upon receiving her undergraduate diploma, Mayra was the first of her peers to drive right back home, while others were still lingering around trying to figure out jobs and internships. Not long after making her return back to Key Biscayne, Mayra landed a job at Sunset Academy -- it was a huge deal and a fast-lane ticket to her life-long dream coming true, so she made everything that stood in her power to prove her worth. Sure enough, it has been her only employment to date, and she has no intentions to change that.
Being a teacher, as well as her kind nature, have helped establish her reputation as a sweetheart, an angel on earth, but there’s more to Mayra than meets the eye. To start, she has always had issues communicating with others, mostly due to her not being able to relate much to the things children her age were into. She grew up as a loner, and was sometimes bullied by kids who thought she was mentally deranged or disabled. Later on, as puberty hit and her awkward, tall body started morphing into a gorgeous young lady, Mayra felt the need to push herself out there and cross all boundaries to prove she could be cool, she could be rebellious, she could be like everyone else around her. This ambition led to a toxic relationship with Jake McCallan, one of the ‘cool’ guys in her high school. It’s a part of her life she has blocked out completely from her memories, yet still creeps back into her consciousness when her students -- girls, most commonly -- come to her asking for advice about dating boys and having their first times. What happened on the night of September 13th, 2009 is Mayra’s deepest darkest secret which nobody - not even her closest friends - know anything about, although it clearly is the primary source of her panic attacks.
Her demons started calming down once she was properly introduced to Joaquin. Mayra had seen him before, mostly due to his relationship with Sasha, but had never had an actual conversation with him. It was Lexi who played the matchmaker, and despite her initial reluctance, Mayra found herself instantly charmed by his wits and his careless vibe. It was well into their first year of relationships that she started hearing rumours about Joaquin still having feelings for Sasha, and while he would constantly tell her otherwise, there was no denying she felt there still was something going on. About halfway through their relationship Mayra was advised by those closest to her to break it off and set Joaquin free, if that was the best thing to do for both of them, but she couldn’t build the strength to say goodbye. Joaquin is, and probably will always be, her greatest love, and no matter how hard it is sometimes to decide whether the feeling is reciprocated, she is determined to fight her fight.
There’s another reason why Mayra keeps holding on to Joaquin is their daughter, Grace. At one year old, there’s been more gossip about this kid than anyone Mayra’s met to date -- people have said Joaquin got Mayra pregnant to stop speculations about a possible affair with Sasha, or that Mayra herself was seeing another man, but none of these matter at all. Grace is Mayra’s greatest pride and joy, the reason why she wakes up in the morning every day and pushes herself to become a better human. Her love for Grace runs endlessly and you better believe she will stop at nothing to protect her.

⟶ ʟɪᴋᴇs: DIY and craftsy activities (which she used to always do as an elementary teacher), spending time with her daughter, small towns and the feeling of comfort that comes with knowing all the places and building relationships with people in her community, the fact that her students trust her and take her advice, waking up extra early in the morning to make coffee and take a long shower to start the day, thrift shopping and experimenting with her style, driving around town once a week with her younger sister for some girl time, seeing her girl students stand up for themselves better than she and her peers used to back in the day, keeping journals, underlining quotes she loves in books she’s reading.
⟶ ᴅɪsʟɪᴋᴇs: people who are scandalized that she and Joaquin had a baby before getting married, the fact that Jake McCallan is married with kids and still lives in the same neighbourhood he always did, people who try to be nosy and dig deep into her personality and history to find something juicy, being taken by surprise (has something to do with the night of September 13th, 2009), being catcalled, having the entire community give unsolicited advice about motherhood and pregnancy, parents who are rough on their kids for no reason and don’t realise they’re inflicting trauma on them, people who don’t recycle and don’t believe in the constant decaying of the planet.

basically by 8/1, midnight EST, please have ~what you can get done~ posted! because jo & i will hopefully post a cast within the next 24 hrs! since this was invite-only to begin with [and meant to be tiny, and we're very happy with what we've seen], if you can't finish all your details, we'll give you the benefit of the doubt. besides, you can finish that bio or make a new one in collaboration with the rest of the group

getting it all done in time places you as a priority to the character you want. lastly a little reminder: we did post that you might get assigned more than one character. i want you guys to know it's of course optional as to whether or not you want to write for them both or not. when the cast is posted, let me know if you don't want to accept your character(s).
