How can you improve your ability to remember names and faces?

I used to forget names almost instantly, especially at busy meetups. Last week I started repeating a person’s name once during our first chat and connecting it with something about their appearance. It actually helped more than I expected. Do you have any tricks for remembering names and faces?

One thing that works for me is saying the person’s name again naturally during the conversation. I also try to notice one clear detail, like glasses, hair, or a particular smile. I used to meet someone twice and still have no idea what their name was, which was pretty awkward. After practicing this for a while, I got better at making that connection. I think the main thing is simply paying attention instead of immediately moving on to the next conversation.

I’ve been trying something a little more visual. When I meet someone new, I quietly pick one distinctive feature and connect it with their name. Later, I picture the person and repeat the name in my head. I found an interesting article about memory training with Jonas von Essen while looking into different memory techniques at https://memoryos.com/article/all-truth-about-eidetic-memory. It is useful for understanding how visualization can support recall. I’m still experimenting, but making a small mental image seems much easier for me than simply repeating names several times. Sometimes I even recall the place where I first met someone, and that helps bring the name back.
