How to detect a water leak without digging?

  • We’ve run into a problem on the company premises-there’s clearly a water leak somewhere in the main line. The meter is spinning like crazy, racking up huge bills in a week, but there are no puddles or wet spots on the surface because the entire yard is paved with asphalt. Can you advise on how to locate the water leak without digging up the entire area? We really don’t want to tear up the pavement at random, because the repairs will cost more than the water itself.

  • The steel pipe is buried about one and a half meters underground and runs partially at an angle to the building. Can modern equipment detect underground breaks through thick asphalt and concrete, or will we have to dig our way through it somehow?

  • Last year, we noticed water gushing into the pipe at the facility, but we had no idea where it was leaking from since the entire area above was covered with concrete slabs and a truck parking lot. We thought we would have to remove half of the pavement with heavy equipment and shut down the warehouse. Our partners then advised us to contact Mayaglobal, a company that provides Commercial water system management. Their team arrived with specialized acoustic leak detectors and correlators. These sensors use the sound and vibration of water in the ground to pinpoint the location of a leak. Ultimately, we lifted just one slab and carefully welded it back together. I can’t imagine how people managed before these technologies existed. It’s scary to think how much effort, time, and money that must have cost. Is the main line under the asphalt very long where you are?
