Advice on transitioning a parent to aged care (VIC)

  • Hi folks, I’m looking for some advice on aged care options around the Donvale/Templestowe area. My dad is starting to need a bit more daily support than we can provide at home. He’s still fairly mobile but needs help with meals and medication management. We’ve looked at a couple of places but they felt a bit depressing, to be honest. We really want somewhere with plenty of natural light and maybe some nice walking paths where he can spend time outdoors. Does anyone know of a place in the area that feels a bit more vibrant and has good outdoor areas for the residents?

  • I totally get what you mean about some places feeling a bit grim. If you’re looking in the Donvale area, you should definitely check out this local provider: Donvale Gardens My neighbour’s husband is there and she’s always commenting on how much he enjoys the outdoor spaces. They have some really beautiful courtyard areas and gardens which are great for a bit of fresh air and a short stroll. It feels very tucked away and private, which is nice if your dad isn't a fan of busy, noisy environments. From what I’ve heard, the food is decent too, which is usually a big talking point for the residents! It’s definitely one of the nicer spots in that part of Melbourne.

  • The focus on outdoor space sounds perfect for my dad, thanks for the recommendation!
