Fire Safety Improvements for Rural Texas Properties

Living out in the country, fire risk is always in the back of my mind. My uncle’s property got hit a couple years ago and there wasn’t much the fire department could do because of how far out he was. What are people doing to make rural homes safer? Are there any upgrades or improvements that actually make a difference, or is it just luck of the draw?

That’s a real concern for anyone out in the sticks. My parents live way out in rural Texas and they did a few things—like clearing brush a good distance from the house, getting metal roofing, and putting in extra water tanks just for emergencies. If you’re not sure what’ll help, you can always talk to fire damage claims adjuster. They know what insurance looks for and what improvements can actually lower your risk (and sometimes your premium). It’s worth looking into before something happens, for sure.
