Does Israel really allow dual citizenship without issues?

  • I’ve been trying to figure out if it makes sense to start the process of getting Israeli citizenship. My grandfather was born in Jerusalem, and I’ve always felt connected, but I’ve built my life in the U.S. and can’t imagine renouncing my American passport. Some articles say it’s possible, others make it sound complicated. Someone here mentioned they did it recently — did you actually manage to hold both without legal trouble?

  • Yep, I went through it last year and still have both my U.S. and Israeli citizenships. The key thing is knowing that yes, does israel allow dual citizenship — and the U.S. won’t force you to give yours up either. Israel treated me as an Israeli once I entered the country, but there were no conflicts as long as I followed the rules. The whole process took a few months, and the hardest part was gathering old documents. But legally? Totally doable.

  • I think the most important part is understanding how each country treats you once you’re in their territory. Israel expects you to act as an Israeli citizen when you're there, but that doesn’t cancel out your other status. It’s more about navigating both systems responsibly. For most people I know who’ve done it, the benefits far outweigh the effort.
