Ethan has lived with just his mom since he was five. He’s understood poverty better than some of his friends who’ve lived in the East Village their whole life have. He wants, desperately, to show his mother that life doesn’t hate their family; this was all just a bunch of bad luck, and he’ll be the one to change it.
In addition to this, his mom hasn’t really ever had faith in him. She’s never said it out loud, but when Ethan would tell her about his Ohio friends scoffing at his ambitions, she never disagreed with them. Perhaps it was because she’s always tired, but it still lit a fire underneath him.

☽ π”Έπ•‘π•‘π•–π•’π•£π•’π•Ÿπ•”π•–: E.T. can often be seen in a sweater that smells vaguely of pot or incense. It depends on what his neighbor was feeling like doing that day. He owns beat-up orange Chuck’s that he’s had since he was 15 and refuses to give up (it’s because they’re β€œnot that old”). He tends to speak in a low, quiet tone and makes uncomfortably steady eye contact.

    • Ethan is great at reading the room.
    • He always has great advice that isn’t the equivalent to a picture of a cat stuck in a tree captioned β€œHang in there.”
    • He’s loving, even if he’s awful at showing it. Ethan will take you out to buy you a candy bar if you’ve been crying because that’s what always helps him when he’s sad.
    • He nonconfrontational. Although this isn’t always good, E.T. sees it as a strength. He could tell Aaron he kind of hates the nickname, but it’s easier not to.
      π•Žπ•–π•’π•œπ•Ÿπ•–π•€π•€π•–π•€:
    • Despite being good at reading people, he’s awful at doing anything good with that information. He’ll probably give you a light pat on the shoulder when you’re crying.
    • E.T.’s awful at defending himself. He tends to just fluff insult off, but he still ends up crying about it later and having fictional fights with them while he showers.
    • He’s over-emotional. Perhaps this is good to some, but there’s nothing worse than wanting to punch someone or cry his eyes out after some old lady cussed him out at Pammy’s. Especially because she’ll just insult him for not β€œtaking it like a man.”

Ethan is hardworking. He’ll often expunge sleep to make money or perfect another line of poetry. He wants to succeed desperately, but he doesn’t seem to be able to catch a break. E.T. spends a lot of time regretting things, like not going to college or at least knowing a trade. Except, he beats himself up for regretting anything; he’s smart enough to know life is too laborious to do that.
He gets lonesome, but he also is too afraid to reach out to others. He’s constantly afraid of offending people, even those who love him despite his faults. He can preach in his poetry and philosophical thoughts about the significance of companionship and how important living with little fear is, but he will never actually practice it.

    ☽ π”Ήπ•’π•”π•œπ•˜π•£π• π•¦π•Ÿπ••:
Coming from Butt-Fuck-Nowhere, Ohio, E.T. and his mom have been a dynamic duo since his father died when he was five. Growing up in a small town, he was often bullied for being so… Ethan. While the rest of the world was experiencing the hippie revolution, he was looked down upon for even trying to participate. He wore jeans every day and holey button-downs because he couldn’t afford anything else. Still, he believed in the movement and respected it, even if people hated on him for trying. That isn’t to say that Ethan didn’t try to find friends. He did, but they didn’t really care about what he did. Often times, he kept his mouth shut about his wild aspirations. He learned to only trust his mom, but she was never around nor did he want her to be his friend. He wanted his own set of people who liked him for him. That’s why New York called him.
His idol, Alan Ginsberg, resided in the East Village. That’s why he ran to this city. He knew it would accept him because it created the environment for another seeming outcast amongst thousands of other outcasts. This, amongst his wild fantasies concerning people’s love of poetry in the upcoming years (which seemed to be dropping, much to his dismay), was what people didn’t like to hear about. It’s also what haunts him and spurs him on.
Upon graduating high school, he immediately got on a bus and traveled here, much to his mom’s dismay. He didn’t have a place to live or a job, and for a few months, he was homeless. Ethan found Pammy’s when he was looking for a cup of coffee that was only a quarter. Lena gave him a job, bussing the tables, and the rest is history. Now, he lives above the diner, which, yes, is smelly, but it’s better than the streets.
E.T. came upon the group while in the New Age Bookstore for a reading. There, he met Aaron and gained his infamous nickname. After that, he found a group of friends where, yes, not everyone was pleasant to be around, but it was better than Ohio. Here, E.T. at least had the illusion of speaking his mind.

An introduction into the life of Ethan Todd. Perhaps a lil' ramble-y, but that's just how E.T. rolls.
