â As owners of some of the most fertile land, the Laurieds and their House are far richer than most in Olympiad. The Laurieds come from a long line of powerful political Witten leaders who have taken advantage of poorer, magic-less lands in the past. Unlike their Higher House Demeter, however, the current House of Persephone prefers keeping to themselves nowadays. They are known for being cold but passive to the happy people of their castletown, Lauried. As long as they have respect, they are happy living quietly with their riches: at least thatâs what the old Lord of Lauried has to say. His son Lars, on the other hand, is a little more ambitious.
â Daughters of House Persephone have been engaged to lesser cousins of House Demeter and House Zeus, their parent houses, since they were in diapers. It is one of the only ways House Persephone pledges their alliance since Olympiadâs unification. The arrangements have been to less and less important figures over time, which has pissed off many Ladies of the Lauried family. That has only recently changed for the first time in centuries with ðððð² ðð«ðšð¬ðð«ð©ð¢ð§ð.
â The other way House Demeter keeps a hold of House Persephone is by receiving a massive cut of âLauried Meadââone of the most popular alcoholic drinks in Olympiad. The secret ingredient is said to be massive, juicy pomegranates which only grow on land that ancestors of the Lauried family conquered from House Demeter in a brutal civil war. Demeter is said to have ended the battle with the help of Zeus. Since, House Persephone has been a vassal of Demeter, but earned the castle and town now named âLauriedâ for themselves. As reparations, they must pay a large cut of their most popular earning monthly. This keeps Demeter a little richer, and of course, angers anyone in House Persephone when they hear the phrase âGreater House.â They believe thereâs not much that keeps them from ruling Witten...especially with magic back in their house.
â ðð©ðŠ ððºðŽðµðªð€ ðð°ð³ð¥ ð°ð§ ðð¢ð¶ð³ðªðŠð¥: House Persephone has been attempting to keep the dark side of Larsâ magical abilities hush-hush. But Lauried is a castletown after allâtalk of the leading family is what keeps the farmers entertained while they bring in bountiful harvests every season. Itâs the least the ostentatious family could do. News of Lord Lars has spread across Witten in the form of folk tales. What once was a tale for children about a golden boy who blessed the fields of lucky farmers...has turned into something more sinister.
Why is the Lord always up so late? Why does the staff of House Persephone constantly change? Is it true you can see Larsâ pupils melt into pools of dark coal if you look his way? ððªð¥ ðð¢ð³ðŽ ð€ð¶ð³ðŽðŠ ð©ðªðŽ ð¥ðºðªð¯ðš ð§ð¢ðµð©ðŠð³? The questions pile up and the rumors grow crazier by the day. Now with the name of Hades floating around, the House canât help but pay attention to a new take on the dark magic looming around Lauried: an ancient prophecy of Persephone, her sight bestowed through a perfect union. The light and the darkness, life and death, gracefully merged now in holy matrimony. An ancient text of Persephoneâs most powerful secrets hidden in Ansis of all places.
The whispers are shunned in Lauried but continue elsewhere: ððŽ ðªðµ ðµð³ð¶ðŠ ðð©ðŠ ððºðŽðµðªð€ ðð°ð³ð¥ ð°ð§ ðð¢ð¶ð³ðªðŠð¥ ð®ð¢ð¥ðŠ ð£ðð¢ð€ð¬, ð£ðŠð¢ð¶ðµðªð§ð¶ð ð§ðð°ðžðŠð³ðŽ ð£ð¶ð¥ ð§ð³ð°ð® ðð¯ðŽðªðŽ, ðµð©ðŠ ððŠð¢ðŽðµ ð§ðŠð³ðµðªððŠ ðð¢ð¯ð¥ ðªð¯ ðððºð®ð±ðªð¢ð¥? What does this mean for Witten and the balance of power throughout Zeusâ shrinking land?
â Lord Percy is the only one who keeps House Persephone on the social calendar lately. He throws the parties, heads the festivities, and manages to always change the subject when it comes to questions about his dying father. Thatâs right: the Lord of Lauried is on his deathbed, and has been for months. The family is waiting for Lars to work up a cure, but nothing seems to affect Lord Lauried. They are starting to believe Lars cursed him, too...Lady Lauried is miserable and unable to believe her blessed son, who treated and saved countless citizens of Witten in the past, cannot save his own father. At least heâll see Lars marry. As for the heir of House Persephone, Lord Percy might have to take over if Lars moves to Ansis. This deeply frightens the Lord and Lady, for their son is a different kind of troublemaker than Larsâbut still trouble through and through.
â Lars believes it is the pressure: practising the Three Shades, playing with the dark arts every night to hone his skills, and the task to save his father all at once have run his abilities dry. His magic seems connected to his emotions; almost always, if itâs not involving a plant, Lars finds a rare Persephone power strikes with a mind of its own. After all, heâs never done well under pressure in the past. Just ask his older brother, Lord Demetriusâoh, wait.

â Lord Percy could have been romantically involved with your character(s) or know them from a festival, party, banquet, or any kind of celebration across Olympiad really
â Lady Amira (20) thinks she's single and could be/come romantically linked with your character(s)
â Lady Pia (21) was recently married to a High Lord of Demeter and your character(s) could've been at the big Witten wedding where they met any of the Laurieds - she is also now expecting if you have some related plot
â Your character(s) could have attended the same educational academy in Opierland that Lars attended between ages 5 to 18
â Your character(s) could have met Lars at a festivity celebrating the announcement of his engagement to Catronia of House Hades prior to the Challenge
â Lars could have contacted your character(s) or an acquittance of theirs about the dark arts if they are knowledgeable on such banned rituals. If so, they may have information and leverage on him over the magic he is practicing behind all of Witten's backâincluding his own House
â Archery and hunting club buddies? Lowkey pals with House Hermes too?

Even after reading what he could about The Nomiki and the power Artemis granted upon twins, Lars was left less than impressed when he met Mars in Steden. Wanting to support but get rid of another supposedly magic opponent, Lars offers her an army to seek revenge upon the anti-magic rogues in House Artemis. Mars is not an idiot, nor the purely âsavageâ person Lars read about in his history books: she doesnât turn down his money and power, but she keeps her wits about her. Lars can keep up with her during the archery trials. But as a divine huntress, Mars knows prey when she sees it. She soon learns the dark magical secret Lars has been hiding from his beloved province of plenty. Lars acknowledges her as the first in the Succession Challenge to have a clear advantage over him. Struggling with his own abilities, he soon learns through Mars that magic wonât be the key to getting the throne if he expects it to just be Persephoneâs powerful words on paper. He needs to take down the Antis with her.

Lord Lars has stumbled upon Gem before. Heâs had the displeasure of meeting him once or twice at big events outside of Wittenâmost likely someone importantâs impressive wedding or something like that. Lars doesnât care, nor did he party with indulgent Gem. Theyâre complete opposites. But Larsâ younger brother Percy certainly has. Gem and Percy hook-up anytime theyâre at the same event and poor Percy is always left wanting more. He has spent countless of coins trying to track Gem down after each blissful night, but it only ends in deadendsâand a lot of dead messengers.
Now that Lars finds himself with the infamous Gem in Steden, Percy starts to visit more and more. A drunken night in Steden with the best booze in Olympiad lands the trio in a whole lot of trouble. How was Percy, the sweet heir of House Persephone, to know his lover was supposedly dead to House Hermes? Lars finds himself between these two as he tries to maintain the alliance House Persephone was secretly building with the Hermes family. So much for dethroning House Demeter as the High House of Witten. Lars soon learns that the only way out of the mess is teaming up with Gem and his natural talent for killing: the best unlikely duo ever.

Lars is an introvertâheâll never admit it, but he is. Yet heâs still caught off-guard when he opens up to his fiancée: he loves their intellectual and ambitious conversations and begins to crave her and her attention. Lars once hid from others in the shadows, but now they stand there together, whispering closely and planning a powerful future: heâs practically engulfed by the heat of her breath. Once he gets to know Catriona, their chemistry, on top of her beauty and wits, are evidence enough to redraft whatever plans he came to House Hades with. Lars marries her to see her every day, which was never part of his original plot. Heâll remain on-course for the throne and do everything he can to succeed. But since discovering what he feels with Rio, Lars finds the abilities Persephoneâs gifted him are no longer what will empower him to it: itâs the idea of their future instead.
In fact, his union to House Hades stuns Olympiad, and is stronger than his gifts, and for the first time, Lars canât simply pay for information as to why. Heâs stumped with his research yet feels closer to Persephone herself more than ever. But how can he replace Zeus when the magic that he feels is growing more potent and darker by the day...seems beautifully, impossibly, and destructively tied to his wife as if by fate?

Until his 18th birth year, Lars was a student at The ??? Academy in Opierland where only the best scholars exist to teach the brightest, luckiest, or richest students. Here, Lars also oversaw younger pupils in the subjects of botany and visual art as an assistant to the professors. No one ever impressed Lars as much as one boy almost a decade his junior did. Teenaged Lars found himself learning from the child about plants he thought he knew well. As if that didnât already leave him in awe, the brilliant boy also displayed a marvelous and unique technique on paint canvases during his arts lessons. Lars never got the boyâs name, but to the day he entered Steden for the Succession Challenge, he remembered some of his creations as if they were etched on the back of his eyelids.
Lars didnât think much of his competition for the Succession Challenge. But when he arrived in Steden he met the boy again: Maddox of House Iris. That is when Lars knew he was in trouble.

Lord Lars felt superior to most of his opponents in the Succession Challenge upon arriving to Steden. People like Lucafine only bolstered his confidence. Poor House Morpheus: having only a fragile pretty little princess to represent them. He almost laughed. Except, as a scholar with his own childhood trauma, he always found himself drawn to the incredibly sad story of Lord Maras and the wife he lost to an accident. They even lost their only heir at the time: a young girl, a little older than Larsâ older brother was when he died. A girl...who would be Lucafineâs age the year the Challenge begins. Lars did research (or paid for information) on all his worthy opponents before arrivingâbut he never thought heâd find himself wasting time on Lucafine. What starts as a cold greeting, with Lars offering her money to drop out, ends in conversations of relentless questions. Lord Maras is so powerless to Witteners like Lars. But could he have had the power to ruin a young girlâs life? Lars finds himself softening up to Lucaâs truth, and whether or not she takes advantage of this in order to rise in the ranks is up her. Maybe he will learn the hard way to toughen up, even when it comes to childhood trauma. This is Olympiad after all: the land is soaked red with traumatic tales. ~ pending

They meet for the first time in Ansis during matrimonial celebrations for Lars and Catriona of House Hades. Lars overheard from members of House Hades that Lady Shyldri can wield dark magicâI mean, just look at her in that scary, black cloaked wonder. It must be true, right? Lars, fueled on frustration and Lauried Mead, approaches Shyldri about these rumours only to find theyâre false. This meeting does not go well. Especially when Lars talks himself up about the darker magic he can ð±ð°ðŽðŽðªð£ððº yield. As she knows from experiences with her cousin, High Lord Nicaynor Nyx, ð±ð°ðŽðŽðªð£ððŠ power does not cut it for her in the cruel coldness of the desert. If Lars wants Shyldri to help him understand whether or not there is a darker, deeper magic within House Persephoneâwhether found in an ancient book or beakerâhe will have to offer her something of value. This seems impossible until the tables turn and rumours are spread about Lars. Is it true this âMysticâ lord can play with the life and death of living things? That he can connect to the Underworld? Could Shyldri one day see or speak to her son again? Whether or not the rumours are true, Lars will do anything to utilise her powers. Even if it means leading her on or getting on the bad side of House Nyx and their loathful High Lord.
